"Well..." Su Yuanhang hung his head, unable to respond.
Back in the countryside years ago, he had been someone of stature, full of confidence and speaking with authority. However, after years of being humbled by the Huang Family, that initial bravado had long since faded, leaving only a cautious timidity.
Now, he was desperately trying to curry favor with Huang Pinyan, hoping to gain his approval and secure a coveted position. If he could achieve that, he would no longer have to live so humbly.
Huang Pinyan paid no attention to Su Yuanhang; instead, he pondered: What would Zhu Qingluan do in this situation? After thinking for a long time, he realized he couldn't find a way for both families to disappear together, which only heightened his sense of unease and made him feel restless.
He reported the situation to Prime Minister Huang, eager to know how he would decide.
"This girl cannot be kept alive," Prime Minister Huang said without much thought. If he couldn't even manage his own grandson's affairs, it was clear there was something fishy going on. He coldly ordered, "Since the Huang Family is at odds with her, it would be better to end it directly. After all, everything you need is in your hands!"
He was quite pleased with how easily his grandson had acquired Jade Pavilion and Ruyi Tower.
In the past, the Huang Family had exhausted all their efforts without success. Now, his grandson had achieved everything with just a small maneuver, which brought him great satisfaction. He thought that finally the Huang Family had a successor.
"Grandfather... Aunt..." Huang Pinyan hesitated. He knew that his aunt had once sent someone to kill Zhu Qingluan but had suffered severe consequences; only one person returned. This made him aware that Zhu Qingluan was surrounded by mysterious experts.
"Go on!" Prime Minister Huang waved his hand as if suddenly aged, unable to articulate further.
"Okay!" Huang Pinyan felt a pang of sadness but refrained from offering comfort; he knew his grandfather didn't need it.
Watching his grandson leave, Prime Minister Huang sighed deeply, wondering if all his struggles throughout life were truly worth it.
His son was dead, his daughter was dead, and now his granddaughter was also gone. Although he hadn't favored them much, they were still family. As he grew older and began to value relationships more deeply, it seemed somewhat ridiculous.
Huang Pinyan left the Prime Minister's residence without anyone accompanying him. After a few turns, he entered an inconspicuous small courtyard.
"Knock knock..." The rhythmic knocking echoed as Huang Pinyan cautiously surveyed his surroundings. When the door opened, he quickly slipped inside.
"Aunt," he called out as he stepped through the door. A pungent medicinal smell hit him hard, causing him to furrow his brow. He held his breath for a moment before speaking again.
The person lying on the bed was a gaunt woman. She opened her confused eyes and, after a moment of hesitation, said softly, "It's you, Yan..." This woman was actually Huang, who had already been declared dead, which was hard to believe.
"Aunt, are you feeling any better?" He sat down on the chair that the maid had brought over and asked gently.
"Don't worry, I won't die!" After enduring such torment, Huang had become surprisingly calm. A flicker of ruthless hatred flashed in her dim gaze.
"Aunt, my father and sister Yan'er have not yet avenged their great grievances. You must hold on," as he spoke of Huang, Huang Pinyan couldn't help but feel a sense of relief—if it weren't for Chen Yan'er being suddenly harmed, he wouldn't have thought to send someone to protect Huang. After Huang had fainted and been swapped out of her coffin...
However, after being brought back to life, her body was weakened, and she could only recuperate. If it weren't for the hatred sustaining her, perhaps she wouldn't have made it this far.
"I will definitely hold on," she gritted her teeth in assurance and then looked at him and asked, "What about that little vixen Zhu Qingluan?" She hated the Chen family members, especially Chen Xiaode, but she loathed Zhu Qingluan even more. If it weren't for her, she wouldn't have ended up in such a dire situation.
"Aunt, I came here also because of her," the recently rescued Huang had very little time with his eyes open; he had been force-fed medicine to save him. That's why he came today to ask some questions that troubled him deeply.
"What happened to her?" Excitement sparkled in her eyes as she eagerly inquired.
"She hasn't suffered much; it's just..." He recounted the events of the past few days to her and then asked with confusion, "Aunt, was Zhu Qingluan always this formidable?"
"How could that be?" Huang shook her head dismissively. "If she were really that capable, I would have never allowed her to exist."
"Then what kind of person was she before?"
"She used to be extremely humble and timid. Yan'er bullied her mercilessly, and she didn't dare say a word in response. That's why I let her go... I just didn't expect that little vixen would gain some opportunity and become so powerful, using clever tactics time and again until I became one of her defeated foes!" In the past, she wouldn't have even regarded Zhu Qingluan as a threat.
But upon reflecting quietly, she realized this girl was not simple; everything was interconnected and pressing closer. If it weren't for Pinyan's other arrangements, she would have long been a ghost by now—what revenge could there be?
"She is a legitimate daughter; is there really a need to fear Yan'er?" Huang Pinyan grasped the most crucial point.
"This..." Huang hesitated for a moment before recalling some of Zhu Qingluan's last actions within the Chen family. She pondered and said cautiously, "Or... maybe she's been pretending all along. The Zhu clan is extremely cunning; they must have taught her all their business tactics, which is why she has achieved so much today!" This thought had never crossed her mind before.
Huang Pinyan didn't believe that these skills were taught by the Zhu clan. If they truly had such means, they wouldn't have returned home after being dismissed. However, in Huang's words, nothing valuable could be obtained; they could only let it go and focus on her recovery.
“Yan, that Zhu Qingluan is quite formidable; don’t underestimate her... She fears nothing except her own marriage. You can use this to your advantage,” Huang suggested as he noticed the deep contemplation on his face.
“Marriage? Who could possibly force her into that?”
“Have your grandfather petition the Emperor for a decree. She is Zhu Qingluan; don’t make any more mistakes!” After a few words, Huang was slightly out of breath.
Huang Pinyan said nothing further but cast a deep glance at her before turning to leave.
He had no feelings for this aunt; all he wanted was to use her to gather information about Zhu Qingluan.
Without any worries, Qing Luan did not expect them to resort to such tactics. She busily arranged her own matters, secretly sending people to spread word about how Jade Pavilion was thriving and how much silver it brought to the Huang Family.
Prime Minister's Residence
“Damn that Zhu Qingluan!” Prime Minister Huang returned home after the court session, his face filled with rage. He even smashed a teacup in his study, casting a shadow over the entire Prime Minister's Residence.
“Grandfather, what happened?” Huang Pinyan rushed over upon hearing the news, concerned.
