Since concluding that the Porcelain Jar could only transport food and good items, Hanno had not paid much attention to this interesting trash can for a while. During this time, Mom Han had been cooking, and all the household waste had been disposed of by the elderly couple during their walks, leaving no materials for the Porcelain Jar to work with.
In the blink of an eye, it was time for the high school reunion. Hanno dressed simply and headed to the event. The gathering was held at a three-star hotel in D City, and when Hanno arrived, many people were already there. It took a moment for everyone to recognize her.
"Ha ha, our class representative finally made it! We thought you had forgotten about us since you didn't show up for a few years!" The class monitor, Zhang Xiaofeng, who was also one of the organizers of the reunion, stood up and greeted Hanno with a smile.
"Don't call me class representative! Aren't there enough of those in our class?" Hanno retorted.
Hanno's high school class was among the top-tier classes, with many students excelling academically. This led to a peculiar structure of five class representatives and three vice monitors, which amused the representatives from other classes.
Zhang Xiaofeng chuckled, "Fine, if you don't want to be called that. So, Hanno, feel free."
Hanno nodded and walked over to the woman waving at her. The woman was her high school friend, Yang Yun. She hadn't gone to college but had started working at a law firm. Later on, she self-studied and obtained her lawyer's license, now considered a successful individual.
"Why didn't you come earlier?" Yang Yun asked casually; their connection had never faded, so there was no sense of awkwardness.
"What would I do coming so early?" Hanno replied. "I have no interest in bonding with others."
Aside from a few people, Hanno's relationships with her high school classmates were quite ordinary. Compared to her middle school friends who valued emotional ties more heavily, high school classmates placed greater emphasis on academic performance and benefits. Hanno found little common ground with most of them; three years had passed lightly without much connection except for her good relationship with Yang Yun and two former deskmates.
Yang Yun chuckled, "Who told you to bond with them? If you came earlier, you could have watched the show!"
"Watched the show?"
"Yes! All sorts of self-promotion while stepping on others—this has been playing year after year without getting old." Yang Yun scoffed. She had little to boast about herself; after all, she hadn’t gone to college. Even though she was now a lawyer, she dealt with trivial matters that brought no fame or fortune. Most of her high school classmates looked down on her; if it weren't for Hanno attending the reunion as well, she wouldn't have come this year.
"Look at Ma Yanli; she's going around bragging about her trip to Hong Kong Island. So what if it's Hong Kong Island? I even signed up for a tour group to Singapore and Malaysia—that's real travel abroad," Yang Yun said disdainfully about Ma Yanli.
Hanno smirked slightly in mockery. "What can you say? She's just popular; everyone loves listening to her."
Yang Yun chuckled, "I think many people want to block their ears. Liu Zhaoren really has no vision; how could he choose her as his wife?"
Hanno replied, "Ma Yanli is beautiful, you know. Men are visual creatures."
Yang Yun scoffed, "I think you're prettier than Ma Yanli. Why didn't Liu Zhaoren choose you? Weren't you two close before? You were classmates in middle school."
Hanno said, "Ma Yanli and Liu Zhaoren were also middle school classmates. Honestly, I still can't figure out how they ended up together. Their relationship seemed quite ordinary in high school."
Yang Yun remarked, "If you don't know, then I really have no clue. Do you think they might be the type to get on the bus first and buy a ticket later?"
"Not good. Shh—quiet down, Ma Yanli is coming over."
The two fell silent and turned to look at Ma Yanli as she approached them.
Ma Yanli smiled proudly, "Hanno, why are you so late? I've been waiting for you for a while."
Hanno smiled back, "I'm not like you; you have a wide circle of friends. It doesn't matter if I arrive early or late."
Ma Yanli beamed even more, "By the way, I forgot to ask last time we met—what are you working on now?"
Hanno replied, "I don't have a job right now; I'm planning to start a business."
"You graduated from a prestigious university and still can't find a job?" Ma Yanli exclaimed with surprise. "Do you want me to help you find one?"
"Ma Yanli, maybe you should just let it go. A graduate from a prestigious university wouldn't be unable to find work; they probably just don't want to work for someone else and want to be their own boss," another girl chimed in as she approached. She was very pretty but was short, which detracted from her overall appearance.
Ma Yanli laughed, "Even if Hanno wants to be a boss, it can't compare to you being the big boss. Lan University Boss, your assets are in the millions; you're the richest among us. How about it? Are you treating us tonight at karaoke?"
Lansiya was feeling quite pleased. "Since you've brought it up, how can I refuse? Hanno, would you like to join us?"
Hanno smiled lightly. "No thanks, I can't sing well, and I prefer to go to bed early and rise early, so I won't be joining you."
Lansiya's expression darkened immediately, and she huffed, "You don't know how to appreciate a good invitation!"
Lansiya didn't like Hanno, just as Hanno didn't like her. Lansiya was a rich second-generation heiress, proud and arrogant. After entering school, many people surrounded her because of her wealth, but only Hanno refused to play along, which made Lansiya dislike her even more. Lansiya once tried to hire some delinquents from outside the school to teach Hanno a lesson. However, Hanno was no pushover; she had attended one of the most chaotic classes in middle school, where various types of students mingled. After graduation, many of them became involved in the underworld and held significant positions among delinquents. Although there were both good and bad students in Hanno's class, everyone valued loyalty and maintained strong relationships. Even after graduation, despite taking different paths in life, their connections remained intact. When Lansiya attempted to hire delinquents, Hanno's former classmates quickly learned about it and warned those delinquents, making them too afraid to confront Hanno. Lansiya ended up losing money without achieving her desired effect; she was so furious that she nearly bit her own teeth off but dared not seek revenge on Hanno again. After the college entrance examination, Hanno was accepted into a prestigious university while Lansiya only managed to get into a second-tier school. The gap between them widened further, fueling Lansiya's jealousy. However, years later, with her parents' help in business, Lansiya earned a considerable amount of money. When she learned from Ma Yanli that Hanno had returned home without a job, she felt a sense of reversal and believed she could look down on Hanno now. Yet Hanno still maintained her indifferent demeanor and refused to give her any face, which infuriated Lansiya.
Hanno smiled slightly, treating Lansiya as if she were invisible. A glint of calculation flashed quickly in Ma Yanli's eyes.
Everyone who needed to be there had arrived; the banquet began with people eating and drinking while boasting about their achievements. Unbeknownst to them, the plates on the table had emptied as the gathering approached its end. Suddenly, Lansiya shouted, "My bracelet is missing! Who took it? Return it to me immediately!"
Lansiya had worn a jade bracelet worth one million for the class reunion to show off. All the girls except for Hanno admired and envied it. Now that Lansiya's bracelet was lost, she fixed her suspicious gaze on several girls from less affluent backgrounds.
"What kind of look is that?" Tian Quan exploded. "Even if we come from poor families, we wouldn't steal! You probably lost your bracelet due to your own carelessness; don’t blame us!"
"Yeah," Su Yao added. "Weren't you in the restroom earlier? Maybe you left your bracelet there?"
Ma Yanli interjected, "I accompanied Siya to the restroom; I can testify that Siya didn’t leave her bracelet there."
Hanno quietly observed the argument between Lansiya and the other girls. She had a premonition that this incident was directed at her. She recalled going to the restroom earlier without taking her handbag with her. Suddenly realizing something, she stealthily reached into her handbag. A cool and smooth sensation transmitted information through her fingers: Lansiya's bracelet was indeed in her bag. Looking at Ma Yanli playing the good Samaritan in the crowd, what else could she not understand? No wonder this woman had been so eager to invite her to the reunion; she initially thought it was just for show but hadn’t expected Ma Yanli was waiting for her here.
With a cold smile, Hanno subtly moved closer to the group of women. Thanks to Wei Feng for being such a good boyfriend who taught her many practical and clever tricks. Ma Yanli, I am not someone you can easily manipulate.
"It can't be any of you; who else would have taken my bracelet?" Lansiya shouted angrily.
"Well..." Ma Yanli seemed to suddenly remember something and stammered, "I think I saw Hanno put something from the table into her handbag earlier; I thought it was her own bracelet!"
As soon as the words were spoken, everyone's gaze turned to Hanno.
Hanno coldly replied, "Are you implying that I stole Lansiya's bracelet? Ma Yanli, you need to provide evidence for your claims; I could sue you for defamation. Yang Yun, if I decide to sue Ma Yanli, you'll be my lawyer."
"Sure," Yang Yun said loudly. "I won't let anyone who falsely accuses others get away with it."
Ma Yanli pretended to be frightened and hid behind Lansiya. "But I really saw it."
Lansiya stepped in front of Ma Yanli and sneered at Hanno. "Hanno, don't intimidate Ma Yanli. If you ask me, the bracelet is definitely with you. Hand it over quickly, or I'll call the police."
Hanno smirked in response. "Go ahead and report it; I'm curious to see who actually stole the bracelet and who is pretending to be a victim."
Ma Yanli secretly chuckled while pretending to play the peacemaker. "Let's not involve the police; we're all classmates, and it's not good to escalate things like this."
Lansiya was convinced that Hanno was the thief and insisted, "No way, I have to call the police. If someone dares to steal from me, they'll regret it."
The others were eager to watch the drama unfold, but only class leader Zhang Xiaofeng wanted to avoid such a messy end to their gathering. He urged Lansiya not to call the police, but she remained resolute.
"When the police arrive, let's see who dares deny it," Lansiya glared fiercely at Hanno.
Hanno ignored her completely and quietly instructed Yang Yun with a few words.
