"Ah, so you are Han the Scholar's daughter," Host Taoist said with a smile. "Han the Scholar is currently teaching, and Bai Jushi is helping in the kitchen. Please follow me to the dining hall to rest while I go call Bai Jushi."
"Thank you, Daoist," Hanno quickly expressed her gratitude, pulling Elder Brother Li along as they followed Coughing Daoist into the temple.
The temple was quite spacious, with the main hall dedicated to the Three Pure Ones. Two side halls housed the Twelve Golden Immortals and the Eight Immortals led by Lu Dongbin. The temple was divided into several courtyards, each with its own deities; some courtyards honored Wang Lingguan, while others worshipped the God of Wealth. The dining hall was located in a courtyard on the far right, where several stone tables were set outside, and inside were long benches and tables. Hanno and Elder Brother Li chose not to enter the room but sat down at a stone table beneath a tree. Host Taoist entered the building and soon returned, followed by Mom Han.
"Nono, what brings you here?" Mom Han asked her daughter in surprise, her gaze shifting to the handsome young man beside her, which made her even more delighted. "Girl, is this your boyfriend?"
Hanno tugged at Elder Brother Li's arm. "Did you not want to meet Son-in-law? I brought him here for you to see."
"Finally willing to bring him out, huh?" Mom Han replied, scrutinizing Elder Brother Li closely and growing more satisfied with each glance. "This boy seems good. What’s your name? How old are you? Where do you work? Where is your hometown? How many people are in your family? When did you meet Nono? How long have you been together? Have you thought about when to get married?"
"…How long have you been dating Nono? Have you thought about when to get married?" Mom Han's barrage of questions left Elder Brother Li unsure of where to start answering, but none of them compared to her final question.
"Nono brought me here to meet you all. If you’re satisfied with me, we can go get our marriage certificate as soon as we return to D City. We can hold the wedding after you and Uncle return to D City."
Upon hearing this, Mom Han's eyes lit up; she was increasingly pleased with her future son-in-law. "Stop calling us Uncle and Auntie; call us Mom and Dad!"
Li Wei Feng immediately responded, "Mom!"
"Ah—" Mom Han happily acknowledged.
"Son-in-law, what’s your name? What do you do for a living? When did you meet my Nono?" It seemed that even though she accepted him as Son-in-law, she still didn’t know his surname or given name.
Fortunately, Li Wei Feng showed no embarrassment and respectfully answered, "Mom, my name is Li Wei Feng. I used to be in the military but now I run a business. I met Nono five years ago; however, I went missing for a while due to an incident during a mission that caused her sadness. From now on, I will always be by Nono's side and will never let her feel sad again. By the way, I've already moved my household registration to D City…"
The more Mom Han listened, the more satisfied she became: for her daughter’s sake, this young man not only left the military but also relocated his household registration to be near her daughter and intended to treat her parents like his own… A son-in-law like this would be hard to find!
Mom Han was pleased, and Han Dad was equally satisfied. Seeing this young man who had taken his daughter away, Han Dad naturally wanted to give him a lesson. With his internal strength developed over years of martial arts training, he was quite formidable; however, when he tried it on Li Wei Feng, it felt more like a tickle. Han Dad quickly realized that this young man was skilled himself. So he engaged Li Wei Feng in conversation about martial arts. After their exchange, he grew increasingly fond of him and accepted him as his son-in-law.
The two stayed at the temple for ten days during which Elder Brother Li guided Mom Han and others in cultivating Inner Power. These individuals were martial arts friends of Han Dad—three elderly men around his age—as well as Su Anyang along with his master and fellow disciples, including Coughing Daoist who had led Hanno inside earlier. Before Hanno and Elder Brother Li arrived, they had already begun learning Wuxiang Gong from Han Dad with decent results; compared to modern society where people lacked understanding of Taoist principles and martial arts, these individuals had foundational knowledge that made their learning process challenging yet rewarding. Although they hadn’t developed internal strength yet, everyone found their qi sensation improving after practicing for four hours; not only did their bodies feel better but their spirits also lifted significantly. Under Elder Brother Li's guidance, they gained much from their training; several even managed to cultivate internal strength while Han Dad and Mom Han reached the second level of qi cultivation and became healthier and younger.
Upon returning to D City, Elder Brother Li didn’t let Hanno rest; he took their household registration book and ID card and insisted on heading straight to the civil affairs bureau for registration. Hanno laughed as she pulled him back: "It’s Saturday; they’re closed today."
"Saturday?" Elder Brother Li blinked in confusion; having lived in ancient times for over twenty years, he had almost forgotten that modern people worked five days a week and rested for two.
Hanno nodded, "Yeah, I actually forgot today is Saturday. I only realized it when I looked at the calendar."
The main reason was that Hanno was now a freelancer, working and resting without following the usual work schedule, so he naturally didn't pay much attention to the distinction between rest days and workdays.
Elder Brother Li sighed in disappointment, "Why does it have to be Saturday? Why can't it be Monday?"
Finally, they managed to get through to Monday. As soon as the civil affairs bureau opened its doors, Elder Brother Li dragged Hanno inside. They submitted their documents, filled out applications, took photos... After completing all the procedures, they were finally able to receive their marriage certificate. However, before that, they still needed to recite their marriage vows.
A middle-aged woman in her forties asked them with a serious expression, "Mr. Li Wei Feng and Ms. Hanno, I am Zhang Xiaoyue, the certificate issuer from D City Civil Affairs Bureau. I am pleased to issue your marriage certificate today. This is a sacred day; please answer my question solemnly: Do you both willingly choose to marry?"
Hanno and Elder Brother Li exchanged glances and smiled as they nodded in affirmation, "Of course we do."
The staff member instructed, "Please face the solemn national flag and emblem and recite the Marriage Vows together."
The two looked at the Marriage Vows and read aloud: "We voluntarily become husband and wife. From this day forward, we will jointly shoulder the responsibilities and obligations that marriage bestows upon us: to honor our parents above us, to teach our children below us, to respect and love each other, to trust and encourage each other, to understand and forgive each other, to support each other through thick and thin, and to cherish each other for life! In the future, whether in good times or bad times, whether rich or poor, whether in health or sickness, whether young or old, we will stand together through storms and hardships, sharing joys and sorrows as lifelong partners! We will uphold today's vows; we will surely uphold today's vows!"
The staff member handed them their marriage certificate: "Congratulations! You are officially married."
"Thank you!" The two happily accepted the marriage certificate and shook hands with the staff member. Hanno took out some wedding candies he had brought and shared them with the staff. The staff member casually tossed the candies into a drawer without paying much attention, unaware that Hanno had included high-quality sweets along with ancient Golden Sweet Potatoes inside each package—worth at least three to five hundred Renminbi each.
Seeing the staff's indifference towards the candy packages made Hanno smile slightly. He wondered when these staff members would realize what was inside those packages. What would their expressions be then?
Once they returned home joyfully, they began preparing for the celebration. They had previously informed their good friends Shen Chuiyang and Chang Miao about their registration at the civil affairs bureau today; all friends expressed their intention to come celebrate in person. Hanno put on an apron and entered the kitchen to prepare hot pot broth while Elder Brother Li went back to Great Zhou Dynasty to have the kitchen prepare ingredients for hot pot along with some delicious specialty dishes. There was so much food to prepare; he didn't want his wife to tire herself out.
Li Zhoule came over with his belly sticking out but was stopped by Elder Brother Li. Li Zhoule could only assist by directing from the side while helping Elder Brother Li check for any missing items.
"Big Brother, I sent Zhou Shun to Changfeng Restaurant to buy thirty-year-old Li Hua Bai; can you take it over?"
"Thanks, Zhou Le."
Li Zhoule smiled slightly as he instructed the kitchen staff to wash more vegetables since Sister Han preferred modern vegetables over ancient ones due to concerns about pesticide residues; he wanted to send extra vegetables over for her.
Li Yishu ran over: "Big Brother, can you bring me back a calligraphy book next time you return? My handwriting isn't good; my teacher wants me to practice more."
"Sure," Elder Brother Li readily agreed. "Is there anything else you need?"
Li Yishu licked his lips. "Could you bring back a Seafood Supreme Pizza? I haven't had one in ages."
"Okay, no problem." Elder Brother Li promised his brother and returned to the modern world with a pile of items.
Hanno was peeling fruits—apples, pears, dragon fruit, bananas, cherry tomatoes, peaches... After indulging in hot pot and greasy Chinese dishes, Hanno decided to make a fruit salad to lighten things up.
"Need any help?" Elder Brother Li asked as he brought the food containers and baskets into the kitchen, noticing Hanno still busy at work.
"No, I'm almost done," Hanno replied. He placed the peeled and chopped fruits into a bowl, added salad dressing and ketchup, mixed them well, and then transferred the mixture onto a crystal plate lined with lettuce leaves. Just then, the doorbell rang. Elder Brother Li went to answer it, and Shen Chuiyang and his wife along with Zhu Wenrui walked in, each carrying wedding gifts. After a while, Yang Yun and her husband also arrived.
Hanno introduced everyone and asked Chang Miao and Yang Yun, "Why didn't you bring the kids?"
Yang Yun replied, "It's inconvenient to bring them."
Chang Miao nodded. "They're quite good when they're not crying or fussing, but when they do, it’s a headache."
Hanno shot Chang Miao a glance. "You don't have to take care of them; it's usually Second Aunt and your uncle who look after them. What’s there to be annoyed about?"
"It's not annoyance; how could I be annoyed with my own son? It's just that his crying drives me crazy. That little guy cries at the drop of a hat, and his voice is so loud that I feel like stuffing cotton in my ears."
