Hanno drew the Photon Sword that came with the Fire of Departure and swung it with precision. In one stroke, she cleaved a Fifteen Levels bug in half. Turning swiftly, she executed a horizontal slash, cutting another Fifteen Levels bug in two at the waist. With a quick flick, yet another Fifteen Levels bug fell to her blade. In an instant, the space around them was filled with the rain of bug corpses and blood.
Everyone stood frozen, their movements halted as they watched Hanno display her prowess.
Catching sight of their stunned expressions from the corner of her eye, Hanno's lips twitched. She shouted, "What are you all staring at? Hurry up and kill the enemies!"
"Kill!" The warriors of humanity roared in unison, their spirits soaring as they charged toward the bugs. With such a powerful expert among them, victory seemed within reach. At that moment, Hanno became the spiritual leader of all the human warriors, each one unleashing two hundred percent of their strength as they began to rout the bugs.
Finally, the battle was won; it was humanity's first victory against the Zerg since the war began. The majority of the bug's elite guard had been annihilated by Hanno, with only half managing to escape. One of the Four Great Guardians was killed by Hanno while trying to support its comrades, and the other three sustained varying degrees of injury. The remaining Zerg suffered heavy casualties. This time, humanity achieved a resounding victory, delivering a blow to the bugs unlike any seen in history.
"Did we win?"
"We won!"
The warriors erupted in cheers like a mountain crashing down, rushing forward to lift Fire of Departure into the air, tossing it joyfully while laughing.
"Master, should I retaliate?" Fire of Departure asked Hanno in confusion. The warriors' actions puzzled him; there was no hostility but it left him feeling passive.
"No need," Hanno wiped away tears from her eyes. "They are expressing their fondness and gratitude towards you."
"They all like Fire of Departure?" Fire of Departure asked happily.
"Yes, they all like you. Not just these soldiers; even those watching on television back home adore you."
At that moment, all viewers in front of their screens and those at Military Headquarters were cheering and laughing. But as laughter filled the air, tears began to flow from everyone’s eyes. There were tears of joy for victory and tears of sorrow for fallen heroes... From the front lines to the rear, the entire galaxy wept together.
"Why is everyone crying?" Fire of Departure asked in confusion.
"These are tears of joy," Hanno replied.
"Is crying necessary for joy?"
"When joy reaches its peak, tears will come." Hanno's eyes glistened with tears while a broad smile graced her lips. "Alright, Fire of Departure, let’s head back!"
Fire of Departure led the way as a fleet of mechs returned to base, thousands of them tracing beautiful arcs of light across the cosmos on their journey home.
In the command center's conference room, Hanno, Sun Yuqin, and Li Yuanhao sat beside the Frontline Commander, participating in a video conference with the bigwigs from the Military Headquarters. Through the screen, General Han and General Sun watched Hanno with a mix of admiration and regret. The Marshal looked at Hanno with satisfaction, thinking that perhaps this time, they could finally defeat the Zerg thanks to her.
“I rely on you, Iron General, for this war,” the Marshal addressed the frontline commander first. “Everyone participating in this battle will be awarded first-class merit.”
The Iron General quickly expressed gratitude but insisted that all credit should go to Hanno, her three companions, and the ordinary soldiers.
“This time, we have formulated a counterattack plan and request approval from the Military Headquarters.”
“What’s the plan?” asked the Marshal.
The Iron General replied, “Major Han proposed leading a team of elite fighters to stealthily infiltrate the Zerg base and assassinate the Bug Queen. As long as the Bug Queen is dead, the rest of the Zerg will pose no threat.”
General Zhang from the Military Headquarters responded with a hint of sarcasm, “The idea of capturing the king to catch the thief is good, but have you forgotten that the Bug Queen is a level twenty expert? If you go to assassinate her, aren’t you just delivering food? It might even provoke the Zerg, leading to fiercer attacks on humanity.”
General Li chimed in, “I think this idea is excellent. It’s precisely because of the Bug Queen’s overwhelming strength that we need to eliminate her first; otherwise, no matter how many bugs we have, it won’t matter.”
The others nodded in agreement.
General Han said, “But there’s no need for Han Yongxia to go personally. She is currently the strongest expert in the galaxy; if anything were to happen to her, how would we deal with the other strong Zerg?”
“Uncle,” Hanno interjected, “it’s precisely because she is so powerful that she should take on this mission herself; it increases our chances of killing the Bug Queen. If we send someone else, they might not complete the task.”
“Um…” General Han opened his mouth but couldn’t find a reason to stop Hanno from participating in the assassination of the Bug Queen. Just as she said, her strength made her chances of success higher than anyone else’s. Otherwise, sending someone else could lead to failure. It was a pity that such a talented fighter had emerged from his family only to risk losing her so soon.
“Then there’s no need for Sun Yuqin to go,” suggested General Sun. He shared General Han’s sentiments and didn’t want his family’s young expert to fall in battle.
“I want to go,” declared Sun Yuqin, resolute. “My Wind Chaser can coordinate with Fire of Departure, increasing our chances of killing the Bug Queen.
"You can't go!" The one refusing him was Hanno. "You need to stay here and hold back the remaining three guards of the Zerg. Your responsibility is no less than mine. You all must do your utmost to keep the Bug Queen's guards and royal army engaged on the front lines, preventing them from returning to support the Bug Queen."
"But with just you, a level eighteen expert, how can you kill the Bug Queen?" Sun Yuqin asked. "Even if you bring more people, it won't help much against the absolute power of the Bug Queen."
"Who said I'm the only level eighteen expert? There's also Li Jinlang," Hanno replied.
"Li Jinlang?" The people in the command center and Military Headquarters were surprised to hear that name. "Isn't he supposed to be missing?"
"Missing, not dead," Hanno said. "Once I infiltrate the Zerg's main base, I can find Li Jinlang. Together, we can contend with the Bug Queen."
"How can Major Han be sure that Major Li is still alive? He has been trapped in the Zerg's main base for so long; he might already be in grave danger. You shouldn't hold out hope for Major Li," General Sun remarked.
"Because I have confidence in him," Hanno replied firmly. "Major General Li's strength is not inferior to mine. As long as it's not the Bug Queen herself attacking, Major Li should be able to preserve his life even in the Zerg's main base. I believe he is currently hiding somewhere, waiting for an opportunity to strike at the Zerg."
"Wait a minute." Sun Yuqin caught an important detail in Hanno's words. "You mean Li Jinlang's strength is not inferior to yours? Is he also level eighteen?"
Hanno nodded. "That's right!"
"What?" Everyone, including the Marshal, widened their eyes in disbelief.
Another level eighteen? Are young people today really this impressive? Han Yongxia and Li Jinlang—how old are they? They've already become level eighteen masters. Compared to them, this group feels like they've lived long enough to be considered old dogs.
"You two are truly the real double talents, the twin prodigies of the stars!" Sun Yuqin managed to say after a moment of silence. His pride had been thoroughly crushed.
Hanno smiled at Sun Yuqin, recognizing his complex feelings, and comforted him: "You're not bad either; there's no need to envy us. Li Jinlang and I gained our current strength through a fortunate encounter. If I had followed the starry cultivation method step by step, my level might not even surpass yours now."
"Fortune, huh?" Sun Yuqin listened to this and although he wasn't entirely convinced, at least his mood improved a bit.
The one feeling best here was General Li. With such outstanding juniors in his generation, how could he not be pleased? If it weren't for the meeting, General Li would probably be laughing out loud right now.
“Major Han, what is your relationship with Li Jinlang?” General Li asked with concern. From Han Yongxia's tone, it seemed that her relationship with Li Jinlang was not simple! Ha ha, now the family need not worry about Li Jinlang living alone for the rest of his life; he had found a wife, and an exceptionally talented one at that.
Hanno smiled and replied, “We are in a romantic relationship. Li Jinlang proposed to me before his mission, and I accepted.”
Indeed, General Li was overjoyed and became even more affectionate towards Hanno.
In contrast to General Li, General Sun was the least pleased. He shot a fierce glare at his nephew and said, “Let’s not stray from the topic. We are currently discussing Major Han's infiltration into the Zerg's main base to assassinate the Bug Queen. Please raise your hand if you support Major Han's plan.”
After saying this, General Sun was the first to raise his hand, thinking to himself: What does it matter if the Li family and the Han family have young experts at level eighteen? The Bug Queen is at level twenty; even if they succeed, the cost will be high, and whether they can return is still uncertain. By then, my Sun Yuqin will be the top among the younger generation, and in a few decades, the Military Headquarters will fall into our hands.
The second to raise his hand was General Li. Don’t blame him for being selfish; a daughter-in-law cannot compare to a son. He hoped that Hanno's words were true and that Hanno could go to the Zerg's main base to find Li Jinlang.
The third was naturally the Marshal. As one of the highest rulers of the entire galaxy, he hoped to end this war as soon as possible.
Ultimately, Hanno's proposal was approved.
“I will go with you.” After the meeting concluded, Li Yuanhao stood up and said to Hanno.
Hanno nodded, “With your assistance, we have a greater chance of success.”
The meeting agreed to assemble all interstellar forces for a major offensive against the Zerg, drawing out their elite forces while Hanno's team would take advantage of this opportunity to infiltrate the Zerg's main base. For this major offensive, the Military Headquarters decided to abandon defense and send two other level eighteen masters to the front lines. Together with Sun Yuqin piloting the Wind Chaser, they would be able to withstand the remaining three elite guards of the Zerg. This allowed Li Yuanhao to accompany Hanno on their mission.
