"Are you worried about wearing me out or your son and daughter?" Hanno teased as he lay back on the bed, pulled by Elder Brother Li.
Elder Brother Li immediately pledged his loyalty, "Of course, I can't wear you out. You are my precious treasure; the two kids can't surpass you."
Hanno smiled and closed his eyes, quickly drifting off to sleep. Elder Brother Li lay beside Hanno; although he wasn't sleepy, he closed his eyes to keep him company. The sounds from the television in the living room and the occasional gasps from the three children added a lively touch to the tranquility, creating a warm atmosphere. Elder Brother Li's Divine Sense wandered into the apartment where Li Zhoule and Wen Zixia were, unable to suppress a laugh. The two new parents were acting like children themselves, curiously turning on and off the faucet, gas stove, water heater, and air conditioner, having a great time. After all, they were still under nineteen, just starting college in this modern world; it was quite normal for them to be a bit childish.
After resting for over an hour, Elder Brother Li woke Hanno up and ushered the three children, who were engrossed in cartoons, into their room to change clothes. He then called for Li Zhoule and Wen Zixia to head out together.
Seeing everyone dressed up, Hanno laughed. The modern clothes paired with ancient styles looked quite odd. The group smiled at Hanno in confusion until Elder Brother Li reminded them to hurry to the bathroom and fix their hair in front of the mirror. Now with their long hair flowing beautifully and shining black, they looked like models advertising for a laundry service as they walked down the street.
While taking the elevator, Li Zhoule held onto Wen Zixia's hand tightly, while Wen Zixue clutched her Second Brother's hand. Although they understood how elevators worked, it was their first time riding one, and they felt a bit scared.
Once they got off, everyone needed to get into the car. The vehicle was a family travel car that Elder Brother Li had bought. Once inside, the three kids began exploring every nook and cranny with excitement.
Elder Brother Li said to Li Yishu and the others, "When you grow up, I'll buy each of you a car so you can drive yourselves."
"Thank you, Big Brother!" The three cheered happily.
Elder Brother Li turned to Wen Zixia and asked, "Zi Xia, you're old enough to get a driver's license now. Do you want to learn how to drive? I’ll buy you a car."
Wen Zixia quickly waved her hands, "No need! I mostly stay in Great Zhou Dynasty; I don't need to drive."
"Then that's fine," Elder Brother Li said with some regret.
He drove directly to the Provincial Capital. Upon seeing the bustling modern city, all three kids' eyes widened in amazement as if they were entering Grand View Garden with Liu Laolao.
"That's a bus; you have to pay to get on it, just like our public horse carts back home," Wen Zixue pointed at the passing buses and asked Elder Brother Li, "Brother Li, can I ride a bus?"
Wen Zixia interjected, "Don't cause trouble for our big brother. We have our own car; why would we take a bus?"
Wen Zixue sighed softly and lowered her head, feeling quite disappointed.
Hanno rubbed his head and said, "Once Elder Brother Li finds a parking spot, we can all take the bus and explore the entire city."
"Oh, Sister Li is the best!" Wen Zixue cheered happily, while Wen Ziyu and Li Yishu also looked excited. The two had been itching to go out for a long time.
As expected, Elder Brother Li found a parking station and took the ancient people on the bus. One characteristic of public buses in Huaxia is that they are crowded. Even though the three were curious, they were squeezed so tightly that they could hardly bear it. In the end, they jumped off the bus like a shot, expressing their lingering fears about ever wanting to ride a bus again. So, Hanno called for two taxis as their mode of transport and took everyone to Chunxi Road, the most bustling commercial pedestrian street in the Provincial Capital. Chunxi Road has a history of over a hundred years and is the oldest and busiest commercial street in the Provincial Capital. Its name is derived from a passage in Laozi's Tao Te Ching: "People come and go like enjoying a grand feast, like ascending to a spring platform," describing the thriving commerce and bustling populace here during prosperous times. This place offers food, drink, and entertainment all in one, leaving the five ancient people dazzled and reluctant to leave.
They didn't buy much—just some interesting items for ancient people that Hanno had already prepared as gifts for them. As for clothes, Hanno had bought plenty beforehand and stored them at home, so they didn't purchase any. The group simply enjoyed shopping and indulged in various delicious local specialties before heading to the cinema to watch a movie together.
As evening approached, Elder Brother Li led everyone back home with lingering excitement. However, before returning home, Hanno took them to a photo studio to have their identification photos taken. This time, Hanno didn't contact Cousin-in-law; there were plenty of people willing to help them now. After making a phone call, arrangements were immediately made for processing identification cards and household registration books for the five.
That night, they had chicken wings and fries at a fast-food restaurant. Although Hanno had previously sent these junk foods back to ancient times for Li Yishu and others to eat, the three were eager to experience dining at a fast-food restaurant themselves.
After enjoying their meal of junk food, everyone returned home. The three continued to occupy the living room TV watching cartoons; Li Zhoule and Wen Zixia had a TV in their room where they lounged on a comfortable bed chatting while watching TV but soon became engrossed in the show's plot. Hanno opened her computer to type; her memories of interstellar adventures were very clear in her mind, allowing her to type smoothly. She managed to write over one hundred thousand words in one night until Elder Brother Li insisted she go to bed for the sake of her baby.
The next day, Elder Brother Li and Hanno took the five to Happy Valley amusement park. The various attractions there drove the five ancient people wild with excitement; however, since Li Zhoule was a girl, she was hesitant to try overly thrilling rides and was accompanied by Wen Zixia on the carousel and Ferris wheel. Li Yishu and Wen Ziyu were more daring, enjoying roller coasters, hurricane slides, giant snake slides... they played until they lost track of time.
When they returned home that evening, Li Zhoule and Wen Zixia expressed their desire to return to the Great Zhou Dynasty. They were worried about the children back home, and Wen Zixia needed to go back to review her studies in preparation for next year's Scientific Expedition. The three boys didn’t want to leave yet; they hadn’t had enough fun but had classes at the academy starting again soon. Reluctantly, they returned to Great Zhou. The three clung to Elder Brother Li for a promise that once school was out for vacation, they would come back to modern times for fun. Hanno bought each of them a smartphone filled with games but didn’t let them take them back to Great Zhou Dynasty for fear they might inadvertently attract trouble.
The following days were quite peaceful; nothing significant happened in Great Zhou Dynasty, and Li Xuan Zong behaved himself without causing trouble for Elder Brother Li. Three months later, Consort X was honored as Queen during her coronation ceremony. By then, Hanno's belly had grown large enough that she didn’t attend the ceremony. However, she wanted to witness the festivities; hidden among the clouds, she watched the entire event from start to finish while recording it with her camera. Her conclusion was that Consort X had remarkable stamina; if it had been another consort, she would likely have collapsed halfway through the ceremony. Two months later, Consort Jiang gave birth to the crown prince and was elevated to Consort Jin. Elder Brother Jiang's fortunes rose as his business flourished.
Life in modern times was equally tranquil. After Elder Brother Li's and Hanno's cultivation levels became known, not only did cultivators refrain from bothering them but even those from Special Department kept their distance. Previously, Elder Brother Li had an agreement with Special Department that he would handle matters they couldn’t resolve; however now Special Department preferred offering more benefits to Cultivation Sect rather than disturb Elder Brother Li.
Half a month ago, Han Dad and Mom Han returned from D City only to be stunned by their daughter's pregnancy news upon their arrival. The two elders were not surprised as Hanno had anticipated but instead launched into an interrogation that left Hanno’s ears ringing. If it weren’t for her pregnancy condition, it wouldn’t have just been her ears suffering.
"You little brat! Why didn’t you hurry up and tell your dad and me you were having a baby?" Mom Han poked Hanno’s forehead with her finger so hard that it pushed her head back almost causing her to fall over.
Hanno huffed in response: "Dad has students he needs to teach martial arts; he can't leave right now! I thought telling you would only make you anxious! Why not wait until you got home? You would have known everything then!"
Mom Han accepted this reasoning but still felt unsettled: "At least we could have known sooner that we were going to be grandparents! Don’t you know your dad and I have always wanted grandchildren?"
"Mom, Mom." Hanno reached out and grabbed Mom Han's finger, preventing her from poking any further. "It's my fault. Next time, when I get pregnant again, I'll be sure to tell you two right away, okay?"
In the past, Mom Han would have thought Hanno was just brushing her off, but now that the country had announced the policy allowing for a second child, she assumed her daughter wanted to have another baby. The thought of more grandchildren made her happy, and she withdrew her finger.
"You're seven months along, right?" Mom Han asked, gazing at her daughter's belly with satisfaction.
Hanno touched her stomach and smiled. "No, I'm only five months."
"How can your belly be so big at five months?" Mom Han exclaimed. "It can't be twins, can it?"
"Bingo! You got it right." Hanno snapped her fingers. "I'm carrying a boy and a girl—perfectly forming the character 'good.'"
"Really?" Hanno was so excited that she called out to Han Dad. "Old Han, Old Han! In four months, we’ll be able to hold our grandson and granddaughter. One boy and one girl—perfect!"
Han Dad was also very happy and said to Hanno, "Girl, what do you want to eat? I'll go buy it for you."
Hanno shook her head. "Dad, don’t worry about it. I’m not craving anything."
Han Dad replied, "You might not want to eat, but my grandchildren need to eat!"
Hanno pouted. "So I’m just being overly sentimental? The kids aren't even born yet, and I've already lost my favor."
