The soldier listened to Elder Brother Li and said, "We arrived too late to get a good spot. Wait a bit, and you won't be able to grab a Peach of Immortality!"
Elder Brother Li sighed, "If we can't get it, we can't get it! After all, Sun Wukong isn't going to stop stealing just because he missed this time. We'll wait for the next opportunity; who knows, we might get lucky!"
"That's right! You're thinking correctly," the soldier comforted as he patted Elder Brother Li on the shoulder. "I remember it took me over ten tries before I finally got a Peach of Immortality, and it wasn't just my effort; I teamed up with two colleagues. In the end, we shared the peach among the three of us."
Elder Brother Li expressed his envy, "As long as you got to eat it, that's what matters."
"Exactly!" The soldier beamed with pride. "Even though I only ate a third of the peach, my magical power doubled, and my realm elevated from the Immortal Realm to the True Celestial Realm."
Elder Brother Li was astonished. "The effects of the Peach of Immortality are that remarkable?"
The soldier replied, "That's because what we got wasn't an ordinary Peach of Immortality but a Nine Thousand Year Ripe Peach. Sun Wukong wouldn't bother with those three-thousand-year or six-thousand-year peaches."
"I see! No wonder the Monkey King only goes for the best peaches."
Hanno suddenly interjected, "Brother Zhang, look over there! That person resembles Yang Jian, True Lord. Who is he? Is he related to Erlang Shen?"
Following Hanno's pointing finger, the soldier replied, "Of course there's a connection; they are father and son."
"Huh?" The two were taken aback. "Who is the father? Who is the son?"
The soldier clarified, "Of course Erlang Shen is the father, and Zhan Zhao is the son."
"Zhan Zhao?" Hanno and Elder Brother Li wondered if they had misheard. "Isn't Zhan Zhao that cat guardian Zhan Huwei beside Bao Zheng?"
The soldier nodded repeatedly. "That's right! Back when Yama King reincarnated as Bao Zheng to undergo tribulations, he wanted to bring some trusted aides with him when he returned to his divine position. It turned out that Zhan Zhao was not an ordinary person but of divine bloodline. That's how Zhan Zhao's true identity was revealed—he is Erlang Shen's son."
Hanno timidly asked, "Then may I ask if Zhan Zhao's mother is Princess Ao Cunxin of the West Sea?"
The soldier nodded. "So you have heard about Erlang Shen's entanglement with the Third Princess."
"No, I haven't heard of it," Hanno shook his head. "I only heard that Erlang Shen once married the Western Sea Third Princess, and they have long since divorced. As for what happened between them, and how they had a son who lived among humans, I have no idea. Could Brother Zhang share the story with us?"
"Of course, no problem! If you want to hear it, I'll tell you right away," Bing replied happily, and Hanno could see the gossiping spirit burning brightly behind him.
"Uh, this environment isn't great for gossip. How about we go to our island for a cup of tea?" Hanno suggested to Bing.
"Sure!" Bing happily followed Hanno and Elder Brother Li away, not even glancing back at Sun Wukong and Yang Jian fighting; they were used to those two clashing every so often.
"Brother Li, your place is nicely decorated!" Bing exclaimed like a country bumpkin as he admired Elder Brother Li's and Hanno's room. In reality, the room wasn't anything extraordinary; it was just furnished with modern appliances that resembled their homes in the present day. However, the presence of running water, a water heater, and sand left Bing in awe, not to mention the television and refrigerator.
"If Brother Zhang likes anything here, feel free to take it," Hanno generously offered, knowing these items could easily be bought in the modern world at a low price.
"Then I won't hold back," Bing said with glee as he rubbed his hands together. In the end, he only chose a sandbag and a refrigerator. Hanno brought out many modern snacks and placed them on a plate for Bing to enjoy. Although these snacks lacked Spiritual Energy and celestial aura, they tasted great, and Bing couldn't stop praising them.
"As for Erlang Shen and the Western Sea Third Princess, that's quite a tragic tale..." Bing began recounting history while munching on snacks. "At that time, Erlang Shen hadn't ascended yet. Due to Princess Yaoji's incident, Erlang Shen was pursued by the court and was saved multiple times by the Third Princess..."
In this world, Yang Jian's experiences mirrored those in The Legend of the Bao Lian Lantern Prequel. The Third Princess invested her emotions but received no corresponding return; in her sorrow, she took the blame for Yang Jian and was banished to the edge of the Western Sea, never to leave.
Bing sighed: "Everyone, including the True Monarchs, didn't know that the princess was already pregnant before she left. As a result, the Third Princess gave birth alone at the edge of the Western Sea but died due to complications. To give her child a chance at life, she placed him in a wooden basin and used her last strength to send it downriver into Central Plains before succumbing. The baby was fortunate enough to be adopted by a family named Zhan and grew up to become Zhan Zhao and Zhan Huwei. He never knew his true identity until Yama King returned; his divine power and dragon aura were revealed, allowing everyone to discover who he really was."
Hanno asked, "What is Zhan Zhao's relationship with the True Monarch like?"
She couldn't believe that Zhan Zhao would accept Yang Jian as his father without any reservations after hearing about his biological mother's fate.
Bing took a sip of tea and smiled: "The fairy must have thought of this. Given Zhan Zhao's character, he would respect his mother who sacrificed everything for him deeply. Yet the True Monarch betrayed the Third Princess; his heart belonged to another woman and he neglected both wife and child. How could Zhan Zhao possibly recognize him? Everyone in court knows that the True Monarch's son is not close to him but rather closer to his maternal family at West Sea Dragon Palace."
"That makes sense," Hanno replied. "Although the True Monarch is a good deity, he's truly not a good husband or father; he only trusted the Third Princess. I wonder if she has been reincarnated; I really want to meet this fairy who disregarded everything for love."
Bing sighed regretfully upon hearing this: "The fairy's wish cannot be fulfilled."
Hanno asked, "Why?"
Bing replied, "At first, Zhan Zhao and the people from the West Sea Dragon Palace searched for the reincarnation of the Third Princess. Unfortunately, they found no trace of her in either the upper or lower realms, nor in the Mortal Realm. Later, Zhan Zhao went to the west to seek help from Buddha and learned that the soul of the Third Princess was no longer in this world."
"Not in this world?" Hanno was taken aback. Could it be in the mortal world where Nan Fengning had been?
Bing continued, "Buddha mentioned something about parallel universes. However, even Buddha does not have the ability to break through the barriers of time and space to traverse other realms."
Hanno and Elder Brother Li exchanged glances: an ever-evolving Buddha who even knew about traversing worlds. They decided they should keep their distance from the western side and also from the higher-ups here, lest they discover that they did not belong to this world.
After sending Bing away, Hanno and Elder Brother Li entered seclusion. The Peach of Immortality was not so easy to digest: three thousand years of Peach of Immortality allowed them to digest only half, resulting in minimal improvement in their powers. Six thousand years of Peach allowed them to digest three portions, while the Nine Thousand Year Old Peach took them a month to digest and an additional year to transform its celestial energy and stabilize their realms, elevating them from the Celestial Realm to the True Immortal Realm.
They spent a hundred years in their realm and then traveled throughout the entire Immortal Realm for another hundred years. Eventually, they grew tired and chose to leave this world.
………………
When they opened their eyes, they sat quietly for a while before regaining all their memories from before their journey—after all, it had been over a thousand years. Even with an immortal's memory, it was impossible to instantly recover memories spanning millennia.
Elder Brother Li opened his palm, revealing three golden gemstones.
"We've traversed three worlds: Song, Yuan, Ming; Earth Immortal Realm's Mortal Realm; and this realm. So we have three gemstones?" Hanno picked up one of the gems.
Elder Brother Li tightened his grip on the other two stones and said, "That should be correct."
"Let's go upgrade the Eastern Emperor Bell," Hanno said as she pulled Elder Brother Li over to the Square Zun and placed the three gemstones inside. Similar to their previous upgrade experience, there were no unusual occurrences; only the bronze bell at the bottom became increasingly solid, almost resembling a true physical entity.
"I almost forgot about one more thing." Hanno took out the Treasure Basin from her space. Instantly, both the Treasure Basin and Square Zun emitted blinding light. Hanno closed her eyes and felt as if the Treasure Basin was being drawn by a powerful force. She quickly let go, and it flew out of her hands, landing above the Square Zun.
When the blinding light faded away, Hanno and Elder Brother Li opened their eyes to find that both the Square Zun and Treasure Basin had vanished. Before them stood a golden bronze bell about a foot tall.
“Eastern Emperor Bell!” Hanno and Elder Brother Li stared at the bronze bell with shining eyes.
“I can’t believe we’re actually seeing the Eastern Emperor Bell,” Elder Brother Li said excitedly. “Its design is much more beautiful than that in Xuanyuan Sword.”
“Isn’t it?” Hanno reached out to touch the Eastern Emperor Bell, but before his hand could make contact, a beam of light burst forth from the bell. The light was colorful yet not blinding, and along with it, another small bell flew out, about the size of a palm. It hovered in mid-air for two seconds before suddenly darting out of the window like a flash of lightning, shooting off into the distance.
Both Hanno and Elder Brother Li were momentarily stunned by this unexpected turn of events. Once they regained their senses, they immediately leaped out of the window, following the bell.
The bell didn’t fly far; it was only the distance from D City to the Provincial Capital. Hanno and Elder Brother Li caught up within ten minutes. However, a layer of light enveloped the bell, preventing them from grabbing it. With no other choice, they could only trail behind and see what it intended to do.
The bell flew into an upscale area and smashed through the window of an apartment.
“Eh?” Hanno exclaimed softly.
“What’s wrong?” Elder Brother Li quickly asked.
Hanno replied, “This area feels somewhat familiar to me.”
“Right,” Hanno realized suddenly. “Jia Qianjun lives in this area; he bought a house here. The room is—”
Hanno pointed at the window where the bell had crashed through. “It’s right there!”
