"Sister, we have guests."
"Who are they?"
"It's a Mr. Kuran Shu and Mr. Kudo Xinyi."
"Those two actually ran into each other?" Hanno found it amusing. "Let them in!"
Before long, the servant led Kuran Shu and Kudo Xinyi into the parlor. Both were curious about each other's identities, but there was no time for pleasantries.
"Please, have a seat!" Hanno greeted them with a smile, instructing the servant to prepare plenty of delicious food and drinks, but unfortunately, neither of them felt like eating or drinking.
"Kudo Xinyi, what brings you here?" Hanno asked with a chuckle. "I thought you were trying to avoid me."
Kudo Xinyi's expression was not good. "Are you aware of the situation in Kyoto?"
Kuran Shu interjected, "So you came because of the Kyoto incident as well?"
"You too?" Kudo Xinyi turned to Kuran Shu. "I'm Kudo Xinyi, nice to meet you."
Kuran Shu extended his hand for a shake. "I know you; you're Tokyo's most famous high school detective. I'm Kuran Shu, nice to meet you."
"Kuran?" Kudo Xinyi's expression changed suddenly. He had come across some information about vampires while investigating a series of murders and knew that the Kuran Family was one of the seven pureblood families among vampires. "You're a vampire?"
Kuran Shu smiled slightly. "I thought the detective already knew our identities!"
Kudo Xinyi forced a smile but failed to succeed.
"What happened in Kyoto?" Hanno asked, genuinely unaware of the situation unfolding there.
Kudo Xinyi picked up the remote control and turned on the television. "You can see for yourself!"
On the news, Kyoto was shrouded in a gray-black haze, making the entire city appear like a realm of ghosts from the outside.
Kudo Xinyi continued, "I have a friend who went to Kyoto on business, and I've lost contact with her. I can't reach her by phone or anything. I think what's happening in Kyoto must be related to some kind of supernatural beings."
Hanno stared at the images on the screen, feeling lost; she wasn't a prophet who knew everything.
Kuran Shu asked, "Kyoto is the territory of the Hanaikain Family, right? Did they provoke some powerful yokai?"
"Hanaikain Family?" Hanno recalled suddenly after Kuran Shu's reminder. "It's Yorihime; she wants to resurrect her son."
"Yorihime?" Kuran Shu questioned.
"Oh, I forgot that Lord Kuran has been asleep for nearly ten thousand years, so it's understandable that you don't know about Yorihime. Let me enlighten you both," Hanno said. "Yorihime has been entrenched in the capital since ancient times; she is the most powerful yokai capable of controlling humans. A thousand years ago, she was Abe no Seimei's mother. Four hundred years ago, she possessed Toyotomi Hideyori's mother and gave birth to a hybrid being—Nue. To give birth to Nue, Yorihime consumed the livers of many young women and sent her subordinates to collect human livers. She targeted Ying Ji, a woman coveted by Slippery Demon Nurarihyon, and kidnapped her to obtain her liver, leading to a battle with Nurarihyon. Ultimately, she was defeated and sealed away... Now, four hundred years later, as the sealing power weakens, Yorihime has resurrected, and everything happening in Kyoto is her doing—all to bring back her son, Abe no Seimei..."
Kuran Shu felt indifferent to Hanno's words, but Elder Brother Li and Kudo Xinyi were taken aback. Elder Brother Li recognized his friend's name while Kudo Xinyi was startled by the mention of two historical figures: Abe no Seimei and Toyotomi Hideyori. Even he, a former atheist, had heard of Abe no Seimei, a renowned onmyoji in Nihong!
"Is it Slippery Demon's grandson fighting now?" Elder Brother Li remarked. "Since he's a descendant of ancient beings, we should lend a hand. After all, I still owe Slippery Demon a favor."
Kudo Xinyi glanced at Elder Brother Li: this man was Sister Atobe's fiancé and seemed to know about yokai from over four hundred years ago—could he also be one himself?
Hanno nodded. "Alright, let's go help! By the way, do you two want to join us?"
Kuran Shu and Kudo Xinyi nodded simultaneously.
Kuran Shu said, "It’s good to take a look. I just hope this matter can be resolved quickly. I can’t bear to see Tokyo end up like Kyoto."
Kudo Xinyi replied, "I need to find my friend."
Hanno said, "Alright then, you both go prepare. We’ll head to Kyoto in two hours."
"Can’t we leave right away?" Kuran Shu asked.
Hanno replied, "We have other matters to attend to."
With no other choice, Kuran Shu and Kudo Xinyi left. Hanno turned to Elder Brother Li and asked, "Why not go now?"
Elder Brother Li said, "I want to first visit the Warring States world and find Nurarihyon, to see if he’s willing to come help his grandson in this world."
"Can Nurarihyon come over to this world?"
Elder Brother Li responded, "With the two of us here, it should be fine."
"Alright then, let’s head to Sunset Shrine."
The two left the Atobe mansion and vanished in a flash in an uninhabited area. The next moment, they appeared at Sunset Shrine. After such a long time, Gowei had already established contact with the Warring States side and was currently adventuring with Inuyasha there. This time, without Naraku's involvement, Gowei and Inuyasha had fewer companions; Sango, Yunmu, and Miroku would not be joining their BSS team. The two were only accompanied by Seven Treasures on their adventure. Balloon Flower had awakened and confronted Inuyasha, realizing they had fallen into a trap set by a demon that led them to turn against each other. However, they were unaware of which demon was involved. Thus, both sides were investigating the identity of the demon that had orchestrated events fifty years ago. Unfortunately, the mastermind was no longer in this world; how could they possibly uncover the truth?
Climbing out of the well and breathing in the fresh air, Hanno was about to speak when a voice questioned them, "Who are you?"
Hanno turned around and saw two young people standing behind him. The girl in a school uniform was someone he recognized—Hinata Goei. The other boy had beautiful silver hair that fell to his chest, with shorter strands at the temples, and a pair of white dog ears atop his head. His golden eyes sparkled, and around his neck hung a string of purple-red spirit beads. He wore a fiery red fire rat fur coat over a white shirt, with fire-red lantern pants below, barefoot, and a large sword strapped to his waist with a black cord slung over his shoulder. Who else could he be but Inuyasha?
It seemed unfortunate for the Fortunate Sea Wisdom Temple that he encountered the main characters right away.
Hanno smiled slightly. "We are travelers here for time-space adventures."
Gowei rushed over excitedly after noticing their attire. "Are you also from the modern world?"
Hanno nodded. "My name is Akechi Kano, and this is my fiancé Wei Feng. We indeed come from the modern era to find a friend."
Inuyasha eyed Hanno and his companion warily. Although they bore no demonic aura, their sudden appearance in ancient times was quite strange.
Gowei, however, was very enthusiastic. "What’s your friend's name? Inuyasha and I can help you find them!"
"No need," Hanno politely declined. "You must have other matters to attend to, so I won’t delay you."
Just as Gowei was about to insist on helping, Inuyasha pulled him back sharply. "Gowei, wait. They have issues."
"What issues?" Gowei replied indignantly. "Sister Atobe and Mr. Wei Feng are good people! Inuyasha, that's very rude of you."
"Good people?" Inuyasha scoffed. "They’re clearly strangers with unknown backgrounds. If they are from your era, how could they possibly know someone from hundreds of years ago? And how could they cross the Bone-Eating Well? That well only allows us two to travel through it; I can do so because of my connection to you living there. What gives them the right?"
Who said Inuyasha lacked brains? He was quite analytical after all.
"Because Lord Wei Feng was originally from this era and traveled through the Bone-Eating Well to reach Gowei's time." As she spoke, a woman who appeared to be in her thirties emerged from the forest.
"Granny Maple," Gowei called out. To be honest, every time she said that, it felt quite awkward; how could someone who looked so young be called 'granny'?
"You are Feng?" Wei Feng recognized the woman before him. Thanks to the Zhu Guo, Feng's internal spiritual power was strong, delaying her aging process. Even after forty years, she looked like she had only aged ten years.
"Yes, I didn't expect Young Master Wei to remember me," Feng said happily as she bowed to Wei Feng. "Thank you for your gift when you left. I've always wanted to thank you in person, and now I've finally got the chance."
Wei Feng waved his hand dismissively. "It was just a small gesture."
"To you, it may be a small gesture, but it means a lot to me," Feng said with gratitude as she extended an invitation. "Since you've just returned, why not come to my home for a cup of tea?"
Hanno discreetly pinched Elder Brother Li's waist and smiled at Feng. "Thank you for the invitation; we are truly grateful."
"May I ask who you are?"
Hanno beamed like a flower. "I am Wei Feng's fiancée, Akechi Kano."
Fiancée? A hint of sadness flashed in Feng's eyes, and her heart felt heavy. However, she concealed it well, maintaining a calm and polite demeanor. Apart from Hanno, neither Elder Brother Li nor Gowei noticed Feng's inner turmoil.
Elder Brother Li had crafted an identity for himself as the son of a prominent family, where the eldest son would inherit the family business. This allowed him to freely read and travel, particularly enjoying exploring some of the mysterious or hidden places mentioned in books. The Bone-Eating Well was his last stop before leaving this world.
"I didn't expect what was written in the books to be true; the Bone-Eating Well really does connect to another world," Elder Brother Li feigned astonishment. "Fortunately, I jumped into the Bone-Eating Well, which allowed me to reach the modern world and meet Nono, with whom I formed a marriage contract. This must be what they call fate!"
Gowei listened with a face full of emotion. "How romantic! There's an old saying in Huaxia: 'When there is fate, even a thousand miles can be bridged by a single thread.' Young Master Wei and Sister Atobe's bond must be connected by such a thread, allowing them to find each other across time and space!"
