Chapter Fifty-Eight: Departure
In the blink of an eye, ten hours had passed.
"After ten hours of searching, we have not found any trace of the Dragon Pirate Crew members," Colonel Lester announced to the residents of Cocoa West Village and Rear Sand Town on Zoumeida Island.
Upon hearing this, the residents grew anxious. Aken asked, "What about the other villages? Arlong controls many of them; has he gone to those places?"
"No," Colonel Lester shook his head. "Whether it’s Zoumeida Island, Bernat Island, or any of the fourteen villages controlled by the Dragon Pirate Crew, we have thoroughly searched them all and found no sign of Arlong and his crew."
One of his subordinates, a major, added, "Moreover, we have also checked several nearby islands that are not under control and found nothing."
"Then..." Aken furrowed his brow, unsure of what to do next.
He informed Brigadier Blinblin that the Dragon Pirate Crew had headed to Bernat Island, prompting three battleships to pursue them, but they returned without results.
During these ten hours, they scoured the area where the Dragon Pirate Crew had attacked fourteen villages, yet there was no sign of them.
The major also informed them that even in nearby villages that remained free, there was no trace of Arlong's crew.
"Don't worry; our three branch bases are nearby. Especially since this sea belongs to our 16th Branch Base, we will patrol here regularly," Colonel Lester reassured them. "If Arlong reappears, we will come back."
"Thank you for your trouble, gentlemen," Aken nodded. For now, this was all they could do; the Arlong Pirates had vanished without a trace.
However, as long as the Navy maintained jurisdiction, if they returned, the Navy would be able to take action against them.
After informing the residents of Zoumeida Island about the situation, Colonel Lester, accompanied by 16 members of the Branch Base, departed from Zoumeida Island aboard the Battleship.
...
"They're gone."
In the sea, two massive figures swam off into the distance.
One was a gigantic fish, jet black with a huge head and a robust body. Its dorsal fin resembled a massive scythe, and its belly was adorned with Tentacles.
The other was a colossal Manatee, its body immense with pointed horns on its head, a mix of green and blue hues, and an adorably dazed expression.
These two creatures were none other than Xiaqiu and Moo Moo.
As they began their journey away from Zoumeida Island, Xiaqiu decided he would not stay here any longer after waiting for ten days without any sign of return.
Xiaqiu had spent too much time here—three and a half years. He had grown very familiar with the environment and was weary of life on this island.
Thus, he planned to leave and explore other places.
Where to go?
Xiaqiu had not yet decided, but at least in the waters of the East Sea, he had no enemies left.
The Red Pirate Crew should have returned by 1511. Kong and the Dragon occasionally appeared in these waters, but they were not easily encountered.
Even if they were around, Xiaqiu believed that his Heart Point would prevent any conflict with them.
Other powerful beings rarely ventured into this area. As it stood, Xiaqiu had no enemies left.
Even when it came to the Sea Kings of the East Sea, as long as they weren't the giant Sea Kings, Xiaqiu felt no fear.
So in the East Sea, he could sail freely to wherever he wanted to go.
But the question was, should he go to the Grand Line?
After his strength had grown, Xiaqiu found himself filled with thoughts of adventure, wanting to head towards the Grand Line.
In the world of One Piece, the Grand Line is just a stretch of sea that doesn’t appear large on the map.
However, it is home to countless powerful individuals, immense forces, and numerous races.
Naval Headquarters, Seven Warlords of the Sea, Four Emperors.
Fishmen, mermaids, giants, Dragon People.
At the end of the Grand Line, there lies the legendary Great Treasure.
Xiaqiu yearned for that world, but this yearning was more about his love for the original story.
Now, having been in this world for over four years, he had long transformed his fantasies into reality.
While he felt a longing for adventure, he also held a greater sense of caution.
He was not strong enough yet and was not mentally prepared.
Maybe later.
Xiaqiu thought as he sailed further away with Moo Moo, drifting into the distance.
...
As night fell, a bright moon cast silvery light upon the water, stars twinkled in the sky, and in the distance, the Orange Grove rustled softly in the gentle breeze.
"Nami, do you want to cover up your tattoo? There's a villager in the village who used to be a tattoo artist. He did my tattoo, and I asked him if he could modify yours based on it."
Nokigao looked at Nami's left arm, where a handkerchief was wrapped around it, concealing the tattoo of the Evil Dragon Pirate Crew.
"Wait a minute. What if the Evil Dragon Pirate Crew comes back and sees that I've changed the design? The consequences could be dire," Nami said softly.
"That's true."
Upon hearing this, Nokigao nodded. If Arlong returned, life would revert to how it used to be.
Nokigao sat beside Nami and sighed. "I really hope Arlong and his crew never come back."
"Yeah, then the villagers wouldn't have to pay tribute every month and live under their oppressive rule. If they accidentally broke one of Arlong's rules, they would get hurt," Nami thought about the villagers' experiences, feeling immense sorrow in her heart.
"Nami, you shouldn't always think about others. What about yourself?" Nokigao turned to look at Nami and asked.
"Me?" Nami glanced at Nokigao.
Nokigao replied earnestly, "Once Arlong is gone, you can come back without fear. You can live a stable life again; that's what I look forward to the most."
"That's what I hope for too." Hearing this warmed Nami's heart as she spoke softly.
For the past ten years, her life had been quite stable. Most of the time, she stayed at home reading books and drawing.
Nokigao kept her company, and occasionally Aken would come by to visit her and even brought her a few books.
But with the Evil Dragon Pirate Crew, one had to live in constant fear, always hustling to earn more money.
"Alright, it's getting late. Let's go to sleep," Nokigao yawned, stood up, and looked at Nami. "Do you want to sleep together?"
"Sure."
Nami nodded, and after washing up, she lay down in the bedroom.
This bedroom had once belonged to Aunt Bellemere. After her passing, Nokigao moved in here.
Nami, on the other hand, resided in the room she used to share with Nokigao.
She turned off the light, climbed into bed, and lay down next to Nokigao. They chatted about old times and gradually drifted off to sleep.
It was unclear how long she had been asleep.
Suddenly, she felt someone tapping her. Slowly, she opened her eyes, startled from her dreams, blinking as she looked into the distance.
