Chapter Fifty-Nine: The Decision of Eight
"Eight?"
By the light of the moon, Nami saw the figure in front of her; it was Eight, the officer of the Arlong Pirate Crew.
What is he doing here?
Could it be that the Arlong Pirate Crew has returned? But why would they sneak around to find me?
"It's me."
Eight nodded and then spoke softly, "Nami, I have something I want to ask you."
"Let's go outside."
Nami glanced at Nokigao and pointed toward the door.
"Okay."
Eight walked outside, and Nami watched his back before jumping out of bed and leaving the room.
They arrived at the Orange Grove behind the house. Nami looked at Eight and asked nonchalantly, "Where's Arlong?"
Upon hearing Nami's question, Eight's expression immediately darkened. With a sorrowful face, he said, "Arlong is dead."
"What?"
Nami was taken aback, her heart filled with astonishment.
She thought that Arlong might have left this sea area, but unexpectedly, he was dead. She asked, "How did he die? Was it the Navy?"
"Not the Navy."
Hachi pondered for a moment, still feeling a lingering fear. "He was killed by a Black Fish. Not just him; the rest of the Arlong Pirate Crew were also killed by that Black Fish."
"Wait a minute, Arlong was killed by a Black Fish? And the other members of the Arlong Pirate Crew are dead too?"
Nami looked at him, her expression one of disbelief.
"That's right. At that time, we had just left the island and were heading to Bernat Island..." Hachi recounted what had happened.
"They really are dead."
Nami said in a daze, unable to believe that the entire Arlong Pirate Crew was wiped out except for Hachi.
A Black Fish?
Nami looked at Hachi and asked, "Is this Black Fish the same one you fought against and killed Crocboy?"
Hachi nodded, anger evident in his voice. "That's right, it's the same one. It has grown tentacles, but it's definitely it."
"I can't believe it."
Nami was shocked that this sea creature had annihilated the Arlong Pirate Crew.
What puzzled Nami even more was why it would target the Arlong Pirate Crew in the first place.
Three and a half years ago, I first saw it while it was hunting dolphins.
Since then, I have encountered it many times, until the arrival of the Evil Dragon Pirate Crew.
The first time I attacked the Fishman and Eight, I was the one who encouraged Eight to go into the water.
The second time, Crocboy was directly captured by it. According to Arlong, Crocboy was killed by it.
The third time, it annihilated the entire Evil Dragon Pirate Crew.
Why did it do this?
Was it out of a desire to hunt, or was there another reason?
It had attacked pirates, dolphins, and whales, and had targeted the Evil Dragon Pirate Crew, yet it had never attacked merchant ships or fishing boats.
Why was that?
Nami found herself puzzled. She snapped back to reality and asked Eight, "So what about you? What are you planning to do?"
"Right."
Upon hearing Nami's words, Eight came back to his senses and said, "Arlong told me to return and bring back the remaining Fishmen. I just went back underwater, but they weren't in the park, and the park is in ruins. I blew the horn, but Moo Moo didn't respond either. So I wanted to ask if they were captured?"
"Bring the Fishmen back to Fishman Island."
Nami sighed. With the Evil Dragon Pirate Crew defeated, if Eight also intended to leave, then the village would be completely safe.
"I don't know where they went, but the Navy hasn't spotted any Fishmen, and Moo Moo hasn't attacked the Naval Battleship," Nami said, looking at Nonsense. "Ten hasn't returned; they must have left. Facing three Battleships, they wouldn't just wait around to die."
"They left?"
Ba sighed. "It seems I won't be able to complete Arlong's mission."
"What do you plan to do next?" Nami asked, her eyes flickering. "With the Dragon Pirate Crew destroyed and the Navy still pursuing you, staying here isn't a good idea."
Nami was hinting that it was time for him to leave and return to Fishman Island.
But Ba scratched his head and said, "I don't even know where to go."
"You..."
Nami paused, looking at him. "Didn't Arlong tell you to go back to Fishman Island?"
Ba replied with frustration, "But the Fish Soldiers left their posts."
"Aren't you going back on your own?" Nami shouted angrily.
Ba shrugged it off with a huff. "Without Arlong's orders, I won't go back. I still have things to do."
Nami frowned and asked, "What do you plan to do next?"
Just as Ba was about to answer, his expression suddenly changed as he shouted, "Come out."
"Huh? Is someone there?"
Nami looked back, where rows of Orange Groves stood, empty of people.
"Are you not coming out?"
Eight immediately dashed over, grabbing someone from behind and saying, "How dare you eavesdrop on our conversation and reveal yourself."
"Nokigao?"
Nami followed over and, seeing the figure, called out, "Eight, let her go."
"Nami, do you know her?" Eight asked, frowning as he looked at Nami.
Nami replied, "Eight, this is my sister. You can't hurt her."
"I see."
Eight bent slightly toward Nokigao and said, "Then I apologize for scaring you just now."
"Are you okay?"
Nami walked over and supported Nokigao. The latter looked at Eight with a nervous expression and asked, "Is he a Fishman?"
Eight nodded and said, "That's right, I'm an Octopus Fishman."
Nami softly reassured her, "Don't worry, he's not like other Fishmen."
Hearing this, Nokigao's expression softened as she asked, "What are you all doing?"
Nami glanced at Eight and replied, "He came back alone, hoping to ask me something. Now that he’s done asking, he plans to leave."
With that, Nami gave Eight a look, signaling him that he had learned what he needed to know and should leave quickly.
"Is that so?" Nokigao sighed upon hearing the news.
But the next moment, Eight asked in confusion, "Nami, I don't plan to leave."
"Not leaving?"
Nami straightened up, looking at Eight with a furrowed brow as she asked, "Then what do you want to do?"
"I want to stay here."
Nonsense chimed in, "To look for Moo Moo and the other Fishmen."
At this point, Eight's expression turned resolute as he declared, "Moreover, I want to take revenge for Arlong. I need to focus on honing my swordsmanship and kill that sea creature."
Arlong had died just to survive; there was no way he could leave alone.
He had to avenge Arlong.
"You’re not leaving? Then where will you stay? If the other villagers find you, they will notify the Navy," Nami said with a grim look at Eight.
Eight looked around and said, "Nami, your place is quite remote. I’ll just stay here."
The house of Nami was quite remote, and when Arlong and his crew arrived, they almost missed it.
To Hachi, it seemed like a strange place to live.
Nami glared at him and said, "Aren't you afraid we'll tell the Navy?"
"Of course not. After all, we're part of the same Pirate Crew; you wouldn't harm me," Hachi replied with a smile.
"You..."
Upon hearing this, Nami thought Hachi was a bit simple-minded and somewhat foolish.
Of course, if he weren't foolish, she wouldn't have let him accompany her on her journey and protect her.
Nami felt at a loss, her expression showing some distress.
"Hehe, I'm going back to my room now," Hachi said as he walked toward the house.
Seeing him leave, Nokigao finally asked, "Nami, what should we do?"
"Let him stay here for a while," Nami sighed and replied.
Nokigao inquired, "Should we tell Jin-san?"
Nami thought for a moment and shook her head. "No, let's not. He's different from the other Fishmen; he has protected me within the Pirate Crew. Besides, he's very strong—second only to Arlong in the Dragon Pirate Crew. We shouldn't fight him. I'll think of a way to make him leave."
Nokigao nodded and said, "Then let's leave it at that for now."
Nami and Nokigao returned to the house, where Hachi was sitting inside, eagerly devouring his food with chopsticks.
"You seem to be enjoying yourself," Nami remarked, her irritation bubbling beneath the surface.
"I've been eating seafood for days and haven't had a proper meal yet," Hachi said, swallowing a mouthful of rice with a grin. "This rice is really good."
"That's obvious."
Nami walked over and sat down at the table, fixing her gaze on Hachi.
Hachi finished off the remaining rice, still wanting more, and curiously asked, "Which room do I stay in?"
Nami stood up and replied, "Follow me."
Hachi followed Nami into the storage room, where she pointed to an empty space. "This is it."
The oranges were not yet ripe, and the room was filled with miscellaneous items.
"This place is dirty and messy, and there’s no bed," Hachi complained.
Nami glared at him and angrily asked, "Are you going to stay or not?"
"I will stay, as long as there's space," he said.
Hachi walked into the room, set his box aside, and lay down directly on the floor.
"I'll get you some bedding tomorrow," Nami said.
Nami opened the door and stepped outside.
"Good night, Nami," came a voice from behind.
"Good night."
Nami paused for a moment, then walked out and closed the door behind her.
"Is it alright for him to stay here?"
Outside, Nokigao pulled Nami aside and asked quietly, "He won't be angry, will he?"
"Of course not. When we traveled together before, he always slept on the floor," Nami waved her hand dismissively. "Sister, you should go back to sleep and not worry about him."
"Okay."
Nokigao nodded and returned to her room.
Nami closed the bedroom door, went back to her own room, walked over to her desk, turned on the lamp, and took out a notebook.
She flipped open the notebook to a certain page, revealing a large image of the Black Fish.
"It was it that saved us."
Nami gazed at the Black Fish, her expression filled with gratitude.
Having dealt with Crocboy, Choo, Arlong, and so many Fishmen, she no longer had to worry about the evil Dragon Pirate Crew returning.
Without him, the Navy might not have been able to defeat Arlong and his crew.
Although she didn't understand why he did it, Nami felt a surge of gratitude in her heart.
"Thank you! Um, what should I call you?"
Nami looked at the pattern on the paper and felt that she shouldn't call him a sea fish.
Suddenly, she remembered the first time she encountered Xiaqiu. Its black head floated on the blue surface of the sea, resembling a black star.
Black Star.
Thank you for saving us.
