Chapter Seventy: I Need an Explanation
Xiaqiu and Moo Moo left the gathering spot of the sea fish, creating some distance as they slowed their pace, turned around, and continued to sense the magnetic field, heading toward the nearest island.
The recent battle had revealed the conditions of this part of the sea; many fish were larger than those in the East China Sea.
A sea fish measuring several dozen meters was quite ordinary, with some even reaching over a hundred meters.
That seventy-meter Orca would have been impossible to defeat so easily if it weren't for the risky maneuvers Xiaqiu had employed.
If faced with less intelligent sea creatures, Xiaqiu still had a good chance against fish around a hundred meters in length.
However, as the size of the sea fish increased, so did its overwhelming advantage over Xiaqiu, making battles increasingly troublesome.
Even though Xiaqiu's strength was continuously growing, being limited in size still made things challenging.
Xiaqiu's limit was probably between one hundred twenty to one hundred fifty meters of sea fish, which could still be defeated through relentless attacks and entanglements.
Of course, such large sea creatures were relatively rare above a thousand meters underwater.
The deeper one went, the larger the sea fish became. Below the Sabaody Archipelago, even an ordinary fish could measure two to three hundred meters in length.
Then there were monsters like the Kraken.
Dealing with such creatures required more than just increasing strength.
Xiaqiu needed to develop additional methods of attack.
Currently, Xiaqiu had two evolutionary paths: one directed toward humans and the other toward large marine organisms.
For humans, there were two approaches: one required a stronger body—enhancing strength, speed, and defense—which meant Xiaqiu needed Enhanced Energy. The second approach involved acquiring more diverse attack methods to ensure no weaknesses remained in its physical capabilities.
For large marine creatures, there were three directions: one was to grow larger, gaining a more powerful physique. However, as Xiaqiu's body grew stronger, its growth rate had slowed significantly—from previously gaining one meter every four months to now only one meter every six months. This slowing rate posed challenges. Additionally, growing larger would sacrifice speed and agility, necessitating certain limitations.
The second enhancement is to increase strength. Although its effectiveness will diminish, it still holds some value.
The third is to acquire more offensive capabilities, allowing one to inflict damage on large marine creatures.
Currently, the most powerful attack methods are biting and crashing.
Next in line are slapping, tentacles, and spikes.
However, aside from biting, crashing and slapping, as well as the tentacles and spikes, have limited effect on large sea fish.
Thus, it is essential to develop a strong offensive feature similar to teeth that can penetrate defenses.
Combining these two aspects, Xiaqiu's next objectives become clear.
First, continue hunting pirates to strengthen the body.
Second, develop a method to break through the defenses of large sea fish, ideally by growing large, sharp structures.
The first goal already has a plan in mind; the second requires further contemplation. There are several evolutionary directions to consider, but encountering the corresponding marine creatures is necessary for evolution.
In addition, redefining sound wave signals and vibration amplitude is crucial to restore its detection abilities.
Xiaqiu swims forward, steadily increasing the distance from Moo Moo while releasing sound waves to capture Moo Moo's position. By analyzing the time intervals and sound wave information, it records distance and time.
Based on the proximity of Moo Moo and the signals reflected by its size, Xiaqiu defines the sound waves.
After killing five sea fish, Xiaqiu can supplement this information to restore relatively accurate detection capabilities.
With Moo Moo in tow, Xiaqiu swims toward Magnetism. The magnetic force grows stronger, but accurately determining the poles remains elusive.
Here, Xiaqiu veers left and continues onward, occasionally surfacing to observe the distant horizon.
This is an island.
Xiaqiu detected a weak Magnetism from the island and swam towards it for a while, eventually spotting the land.
However, despite the island being relatively close, it was still overshadowed by the powerful Magnetism of another island.
Such a weak Magnetism was not enough to attract a Pirate Ship to this place.
So Xiaqiu continued onward, occasionally spotting islands, but none had any Magnetism.
Finally, Xiaqiu arrived.
Before Xiaqiu appeared another island, featuring tall peaks.
The island was not large, comparable in size to the one where Narl Village was located, but it could not compare to Zoumeida Island where Cocoa West Village was or the island where Loguetown was situated.
Yet the Magnetism here was significant, much stronger than that of the East Sea.
On the map, the Seven Routes occupied the Grand Line.
But in reality, the distances between islands were vast, and there were many smaller islands in between, making for spacious waters.
This island, as the starting point of the Seven Routes, was more than sufficient.
Xiaqiu and Moo Moo headed directly towards the island. As they approached, a massive figure came into view.
Using redefined sonic wave information, Xiaqiu determined that the time interval of the sound waves indicated a distance of about five hundred meters. However, the sonic information was somewhat unclear at around fifty meters.
As Xiaqiu got closer to the target, it became apparent that it was a gigantic Squid.
Its body measured thirty meters long, with tentacles extending about thirty meters as well.
It was enormous.
The Squid could bind itself.
However, due to the size of its own mouth, it was difficult to bite it to death. Being entangled by it would also lead to trouble.
Of course, with great strength, it couldn't take itself away, and with its Tentacles, it could find other ways to break free from its control and eventually kill it, though it would take some time.
At least thirty or forty meters of fish would find it hard to overcome this Squid.
The Squid spotted the Xiaqiu and immediately gave chase.
It seemed to have surfaced from the deep sea to hunt.
The Xiaqiu came to a halt, and Moo Moo followed closely behind, staring wide-eyed at the enormous Squid.
This Squid was massive.
Surely, Big Brother could defeat it, right?
Big Brother stopped; he must be planning to fight the Squid.
Moo Moo thought, floating calmly beside the Xiaqiu, completely unconcerned about the approaching Squid.
The Squid was in trouble.
If it were me, encountering such a Squid, I would definitely run away.
Fortunately, Big Brother was here; he could surely kill it and turn it into food.
But as the Squid drew closer, the Xiaqiu suddenly moved and turned to flee.
"Huh?"
Moo Moo was momentarily stunned, mouth agape, eyes filled with disbelief.
"Where did Big Brother go? You, you, you actually ran away."
"Quick, run!"
"If Big Brother can't win, there's no way I can be a match."
Moo Moo trembled in fear and turned to flee.
But it was already too late; Squid rushed over in an instant and grabbed Moo Moo.
Tentacles wrapped around Moo Moo, encasing his body completely.
"Moo Moo! Moo Moo!"
Moo Moo shouted desperately, trying to break free, but the eight thirty-meter-long Tentacles, along with the over fifty-meter-long ones, ensnared him tightly.
Ahhh!
Moo Moo struggled violently, and as he did, the spiny dorsal fin on his back sliced against Squid's body, leaving behind deep gashes.
With the combination of his massive Pectoral Fin and sharp teeth, Moo Moo's chances of victory were slim.
Yet he watched as Xiaqiu swam away into the distance, panic setting in as he found himself ensnared tightly.
It's over, it's over. Even Big Brother has run away.
Moo Moo sank into despair, feeling the Tentacles tighten around him, a tremendous pressure building at his neck.
But in the next moment, Xiaqiu spun around and charged toward Squid's head.
Crunch.
Xiaqiu bit down on Squid's head; with one powerful chomp, a bloody hole appeared in Squid's body.
Then he bit down again, taking three bites and directly killing the Squid.
It was over.
If he were to get entangled and bitten, he would fall into a struggle, and being caught made it difficult to exert strength, requiring a considerable amount of time.
However, it had ensnared Moo Moo, and he could simply kill it.
Not bad, not bad.
Xiaqiu happily began to feast on the Squid.
Meanwhile, Tentacles fell away, and Moo Moo was freed. Reflecting on Xiaqiu's actions, how could he not understand his intentions?
How dare he use me as bait? This is outrageous!
He stared.
Moo Moo lowered his body, eyes fixed on Xiaqiu.
I need an explanation!!!
But Xiaqiu ignored him, engrossed in eating the Squid. After traveling so far, he was already starving.
So Moo Moo moved a little closer, continuing to watch Xiaqiu.
Yet there was still no response.
Thud, thud.
Moo Moo nudged Xiaqiu with his head and then pulled back, staring at him again.
“Moo Moo, Moo Moo, Moo Moo, Moo Moo.”
"Explain, explain, I want to explain."
Xiaqiu turned its head and looked at Moo Moo, opening its mouth to reveal sharp teeth.
Yikes, how scary.
Moo Moo shuddered in fear.
Oh well, it doesn't matter; I'm not hurt.
I should eat first; I can't let my brother finish everything. This Squid has its own contributions too.
Moo Moo pounced angrily on the Squid in front of it and began to eat heartily.
