Chapter Ninety: Fast Goose
Boom.
The Fast Goose collided with the Goose Boat, and after a loud crash, the vessel began to sway from side to side.
"My ship has been hit."
Feng Kelei hurriedly brought the last two Bounty Hunters onto the Sea Vessel, only to see his own ship being struck, a look of concern crossing his face.
"Don't worry, you stay here; I'll take care of your crew," Galdino said as he jumped onto his own ship.
"The Fast Goose is my sweetheart; you must not let it sink into the sea!" Feng Kelei shouted loudly.
"I'll do my best," Galdino replied, commanding his Vessel to approach the Fast Goose.
Just as the sails were raised and the helm was turned, an astonishing scene unfolded.
Feng Kelei's Fast Goose was heading away from them.
"Look, there's a shadow under the ship," Christmas said, standing beside Galdino and pointing into the distance.
Beneath the stern of the Fast Goose, a massive Black Fish was pushing against the ship as it swam away.
"This fish is actually pushing the ship away," Galdino exclaimed, his eyes wide in disbelief.
The Fast Goose was enormous; this fish could actually push an entire ship forward with its immense strength, far surpassing other large sea creatures, leaving one in disbelief.
But the most important question was, why did it want to push the ship away?
It had sunk two vessels, and the third one had been saved by itself. His own ship was nearby, and aside from that, there was only the Goose Boat left.
To prevent him from stopping it from sinking the Vessel, it chose to push this ship far away.
If that was truly the case, it was remarkably clever.
"My ship." Feng Kelei, witnessing this scene, jumped onto Galdino's vessel with a worried expression and said, "Hurry, chase after it."
"Chase? Sure."
Galdino considered abandoning this ship. He felt that the fish's actions were too intelligent; it would be best to give up that ship and leave with these two instead.
However, since Feng Kelei wanted to pursue, Galdino found it hard to refuse. Besides, they might be able to kill that fish.
"Let's go after it."
Galdino turned the ship around and began to chase into the distance.
But the Sea Vessel ahead was getting farther away, and its speed was increasing.
"Steer the helm, lower the sails, use the outer wheel, and prepare to attack the sea fish!" Feng Kelei shouted loudly.
Feng Kelei's Fast Goose had an outer wheel that provided extra power, allowing for incredible speed.
But in the next moment, Feng Kelei's eyes narrowed slightly, as one side of the outer wheel had been destroyed. If only one side of the outer wheel was used, it would be impossible to maintain balance.
Not only that, but the stern was also damaged, making it uncontrollable.
However, the Bounty Hunter on the Fast Goose reacted quickly, lowering the sails and adjusting their position to brace against the wind.
Xiaqiu pushed hard, but the sails were tilted against the wind, causing the force to dissipate across the ship, making its progress extremely slow.
At this rate, they wouldn't be able to increase their speed.
Xiaqiu realized that this plan had also failed, while in the distance, Galdino's Sea Vessel was approaching.
"Very good."
Xiaqiu suddenly turned and charged toward Galdino's Sea Vessel.
"He's coming!" Christmas shouted in time.
"He won't sink this ship," Galdino said confidently. This ship had three layers: the innermost was wax, the middle was wood, and the outermost was still wax.
Galdino's wax, once solidified, was as hard as iron and wouldn't be easily broken.
The wood and wax formed a cohesive whole; altogether, they were much sturdier than the hastily reinforced Pirate Ship.
Even if the wax melted in some hotter sea areas, the underlying wood would be enough to support the Sea Vessel's sailing.
Boom.
Xiaqiu collided with the ship, causing a massive tremor that shook it from side to side, creaking loudly as it came to a halt. Yet, remarkably, the vessel remained intact and did not capsize.
"What tremendous force," Galdino thought, feeling the ship's rise and fall. He felt a twinge of apprehension; however, no matter how great the force, it could not breach his ship unless one could break steel.
But in the next moment, Xiaqiu turned and charged towards the distant Fast Goose.
Boom.
Xiaqiu, carrying immense momentum, slammed into Fast Goose, creating a large hole on one side of the vessel.
"He’s ramming the ship again! Quick, let’s go!" Feng Kelei urged anxiously.
Galdino ordered the ship to pursue once more, but he soon noticed sea fish rushing toward them from afar.
"What is he trying to do?" Christmas asked in confusion.
"Now I understand."
Galdino suddenly grasped Black Fish's intentions. The repeated collisions between the two ships served several purposes.
The first was to gain space; with the two ships separated by dozens of meters, it was enough for him to charge and create a large hole in the distant Sea Vessel.
The second purpose was to destabilize his own ship, preventing it from advancing. By striking near the hull, he caused the ship to tilt.
To pursue him, they would have to turn their vessel around.
If they managed to do so, by then Fast Goose would already be sunk.
The fish was truly clever.
Galdino suddenly felt a chill run down his spine, while Feng Kelei had yet to realize this, shouting loudly, "That damn sea fish is coming again! Hurry, let's go!"
"We have to abandon your ship," Galdino gritted his teeth.
"What? You want me to give up the Fast Goose? There are so many sweethearts on board; I can't just leave them behind!" Feng Kelei glared at Galdino.
"But with it crashing into us like this, we won't be able to get through. Your ship will sink sooner or later," Galdino replied.
Boom.
As Galdino spoke, the ship trembled beneath their feet once more, and the sea fish charged toward the distant Goose Boat again.
"What do we do now?"
Feng Kelei gritted his teeth, watching the approaching Black Fish, wanting nothing more than to kill that damned creature.
But the Black Fish was underwater, and as a Devil Fruit User himself, he felt utterly helpless.
"There’s only one way."
Galdino glanced at Feng Kelei and said, "We split up. You take that Pirate Ship I repaired and approach from another direction."
"That's a great idea!" Feng Kelei exclaimed with joy upon hearing this and was about to jump onto the distant Sea Vessel.
"Wait a moment."
Galdino called out to Feng Kelei, raising his hand as Wax Liquid spread out, continuously extending until it finally coalesced into two long spears.
"This one is for you."
Galdino handed the Wax Gun to Feng Kelei.
"A spear? I'm not used to this kind of thing," Feng Kelei replied, but he accepted the spear anyway, as it was the only weapon that would allow him to attack from the ship into the sea.
Feng Kelei took the spear and leaped onto another Sea Vessel, raising the sails and charging toward the distant Fast Goose.
Boom.
The Fast Goose was struck again from afar.
After three collisions, the Fast Goose had begun to sink. However, at the rate it was going down, there was enough time for two ships to reach it and rescue those on board.
But Galdino said, "Turn around, we are leaving here."
"Huh?"
Christmas paused slightly and asked, "Aren't we going over there?"
"Of course not," Galdino squinted and said. "The ship we are on has been reinforced with wax, but my ability is limited. I can't cover the entire ship, and unlike mine, where the hull and wax are integrated, I can only reinforce weak points. The Wax Liquid is thin, and some areas are not covered. With the force of that sea creature's explosion, if it strikes a few more times, that ship won't last much longer. So if it continues to attack, that ship will sink too. What then?"
"Let them come aboard my ship? This vessel can't hold that many people; we'll have to abandon it eventually," Galdino said. "Moreover, the weather here is unpredictable. The sky has already darkened, and the wind is picking up. A storm will hit soon; you can imagine what a storm in the Grand Line is like. It's manageable most of the time, but if there's a sea monster out there, we're in serious trouble."
Galdino smiled and added, "What's more important is that if R dies, we can take his place, right?"
"You're not wrong."
Christmas listened to Galdino's words but still asked with concern, "But how do we report back to R?"
"We'll split up with Feng Kelei; we've never crossed paths at sea."
Galdino chuckled. "Besides, only our ship and R's have Transponder Snails, and his ship is sinking. So as long as you don't go out, R won't know a thing."
"Don't worry; I won't go out." Christmas sensed Galdino's gaze and shivered slightly, quickly adding, "I've been wanting that position for a long time. That deadweight has been occupying two spots; I've wanted to get rid of him."
"Then let's set sail."
Galdino smiled as the ship slowly started moving away into the distance.
