Chapter 213: Preparation
"Whitebeard."
Xiaqiu looked coldly at Whitebeard in the distance and said, "Is this your way of hospitality?"
"Gurala La La."
Whitebeard laughed heartily and replied, "I just wanted to see your strength, to see what you are capable of in pursuing your ambitions."
"Oh really?"
Xiaqiu sneered. Deep down, he knew that Whitebeard would never truly want to attack him. After all, he had come specifically to meet him and would not directly kill him. Moreover, he had saved Ace and Nami and had killed Blackbeard. Out of both sentiment and reason, he owed Whitebeard's Pirate Crew a debt of gratitude.
Xiaqiu believed that Whitebeard wouldn't do anything reckless, so he decisively engaged him in a fight.
However, he still needed to maintain appearances. Xiaqiu opened his massive mouth and asked, "So what’s the outcome?"
Whitebeard did not answer. Marco spoke up, "If you plan to take action yourself, you might not be able to defeat Doflamingo right now. That guy is stronger than you at this moment. Your power far exceeds his, but his abilities pose a significant limitation on you. Of course, if Ace is around, then it won't be a problem. I just want to give you a piece of advice: you can defeat Doflamingo, but you must not kill Caesar or destroy Doflamingo's Artificial Devil Fruit factory. Otherwise, Kaido and others will come after you. And if you start trouble first, our Whitebeard Pirate Crew will have no moral obligation to assist you."
"I don't need your help."
Xiaqiu smiled and said, "If I were afraid of those people, why would I come to the New World?"
"Overestimating yourself."
Whitebeard said coldly, "Since you're determined to seek death, go ahead and do it."
"Death is not something you can decide."
Xiaqiu snorted and raised her head.
"Alright, Mr. Xia," Marco said. "We're almost at Norse Island. Once we arrive, we'll hold a banquet to celebrate. You all should rest a bit before we set off from there."
"Then it's trouble for you, Captain Marco," Xiaqiu nodded.
The Moby Dick slowly approached the shore, coming alongside an island. Xiaqiu jumped off the ship and stepped onto the island.
This was one of the islands under the Whitebeard Pirate Crew, with a town on one side protected by them, while the western coast served as a resting place for the crew.
Heckler, Cecilia, and the others followed onto the island. Marco smiled and said, "You will stay here for now. A designated person will come to assist you with supplies shortly. Just let us know what you need."
"Then it's trouble for you, Captain Marco," Heckler quickly replied.
"I'll take my leave now."
Marco arranged accommodations for everyone before turning to leave.
"We actually arrived at the Whitebeard Pirate Crew," Elken said, sitting in a chair in the room, still somewhat in disbelief.
"Indeed," Heckler remarked with a hint of awe. They had come to the Whitebeard Pirate Crew and met the legendary pirate himself, with Phoenix Marco personally welcoming them.
This was unimaginable for them.
Although they were about to confront one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, they held the identity of challengers. However, they still maintained a sense of reverence towards the Four Emperors.
Phoenix Marco, Diamond Joz, and Flower Sword Vista—these were all incredibly famous figures.
To think that they had become guests of the Whitebeard Pirate Crew left Heckler feeling quite complicated.
"I never expected to see Whitebeard," he muttered.
In another room, Cecilia lay on the bed, her expression a mix of excitement. "And the captain actually fought with Whitebeard."
"Yeah," Christmas replied. "Even though he lost, being able to withstand a punch from Whitebeard is something to be proud of."
Not far away, Vivi removed her mask, her expression somewhat dazed. Meeting such legendary figures made her feel very happy.
However, she was also more alert about her own mindset. She truly enjoyed this adventurous lifestyle, but it wasn't conducive to her becoming a queen.
After settling in, Heckler had no additional requests; after all, the supplies provided by Neptune King were already plentiful. They were just here to rest.
As evening approached, they held a bonfire party. The atmosphere was lively, with most of the pirates from the Whitebeard Pirate Crew gathered around.
Xiaqiu stood next to Whitebeard, a large bowl placed in front of him.
"Hey Lizard, give this drink a try."
Whitebeard grabbed a flask and threw it towards Xiaqiu.
"Old man, don't call me Lizard."
Xiaqiu replied irritably, extending a tentacle to securely wrap around the flask. Another tentacle opened the lid, bringing it to his mouth and pouring the contents directly in.
"This wine isn't bad."
Xiaqiu took a big gulp, swallowing it down. After all, he could digest anything; there was no way he would get drunk.
"This kind of wine is quite strong."
Whitebeard sneered. "You, Lizard, better not get drunk."
"Get drunk?"
Xiaqiu scoffed. "If you get drunk, I won't."
"Not much strength, but you sure know how to brag," Whitebeard huffed disdainfully.
"Let's see about that."
Xiaqiu extended his tentacles, instantly grabbing eight flasks. After opening them, he poured the contents into his mouth.
"Just so-so."
Xiaqiu felt a slight numbness on his tongue, but the intoxication was hardly noticeable. His stomach could digest anything; what did a little alcohol matter?
"You little..." Whitebeard looked at Xiaqiu with some surprise.
"Scared, huh? Come on, let's do it again."
Xiaqiu immediately lifted the wine jug, raising eight more jugs and pouring them into his mouth once again. "How about that, old man? My drinking capacity isn't bad, right?"
Xiaqiu laughed heartily. He may not be able to beat the old man with the white beard, but he was quite skilled at drinking, thanks to his strong digestive abilities.
In the astonished gaze of the old man, Xiaqiu raised another eight jugs of wine and poured them into his mouth. Then, with a grin, he was about to speak when suddenly he collapsed onto the ground, fast asleep.
His digestion was quick, but the stomach's effect on alcohol mainly involved dilution. After being processed by the liver, eighty percent of the alcohol would be absorbed into the bloodstream through the intestines. During this process, it would inhibit certain neurons while activating others, leading to drunkenness and drowsiness.
So even though Xiaqiu had strong digestive abilities, after consuming a large amount of alcohol in such a short time, he simply passed out. However, due to his body's digestive capacity, he would recover from intoxication quite rapidly.
"What a reckless kid."
The old man shook his head. "That wine is quite strong."
"But still, being able to drink so much is impressive."
The old man raised his jug and took a big gulp. After a moment, he called for Nami.
"Old man, what do you need?"
Nami stood with her hands behind her back, looking at the old man.
The old man spoke gently. "Tomorrow, you should leave with this guy. They aren't prepared enough for the New World and don't have a qualified navigator. They might not make it there. Besides, you owe him your life; you can't just ignore that kindness."
"I will," Nami replied with a smile. "Also, I originally planned to talk to you tomorrow morning."
"Mm."
Whitebeard said, "Then you all should follow him and leave tomorrow morning."
"Understood."
Nami turned to leave, and Whitebeard snorted coldly, "I can only help you this far. Take care of yourself."
"Thank you."
Xiaqiu slowly straightened up and said, "Don't worry, I will succeed."
