Qin Xionglin took a new deck of cards from the bar, keeping the Ace of Spades for himself and distributing the rest up to the King of Spades to everyone else. He turned to the girl and asked, "What should I call you?"
The girl seemed a bit nervous, her voice barely above a whisper. "Xia Jin."
Qin Xionglin didn't catch that clearly and mistakenly thought her name was Jin, assuming that was what she wanted to be called.
"Hey, Jin, could you do us a favor?" Qin Xionglin smiled, but his tone left no room for refusal.
"It's Xia Jin!" Chen Rui finally remembered the girl's name. "Are you here to play a game or flirt? You know, you're great at everything, but you have this annoying habit of always thinking about flirting! It's a style issue."
At this remark, laughter erupted around them, teasing Chen Rui's bluntness and Qin Xionglin's embarrassment.
"Ah! Comrade Xia Jin, come on over and help us out." Qin Xionglin pulled Xia Jin over to the side. "From now on, you'll play the role of God, or rather, the host of the Murder Game. Got it?"
"Um, I will," Xia Jin replied, her face flushed and her voice trembling slightly.
"Don't be so nervous; relax." Qin Xionglin inwardly cursed Chen Rui for being such a troublemaker. "Playing the traditional Murder Game isn't very exciting; let's try an advanced version."
"How advanced?" Jiang Ming seemed quite interested in this topic.
"The Werewolf version of the Murder Game. So here we have thirteen players including the host. We'll split into factions for the game." Qin Xionglin grew more animated as he explained. "Among us thirteen, there will be: three wolves, four villagers, one witch, one Idiot, one prophet, one guard, one hunter, and one Piper."
"Wait, what's the Idiot role?" Chen Rui asked, feeling that this character's definition was just mocking whoever drew that card.
Qin Xionglin's explanation was interrupted. He explained with some annoyance, "The Idiot is part of the Good Person Camp and has the same victory conditions as the good people. The role's skill is that if the Idiot is voted out, they do not die but lose their ability to act; they can't participate in voting anymore but can speak freely during the night phase. They also cannot be killed by wolves. However, if only wolves and the Idiot remain in play, then the wolves win."
"Actually, this role can be quite deadly," Deng Jun nodded in agreement. "It's just that the name doesn't sound good."
"Oh, so the wolves are like killers? Villagers are just like civilians without skills? Then which role takes on the identity of a police officer? What are the extra skills for those roles?" Jiang Ming inquired.
"The police officer is equivalent to the prophet, but there’s only one prophet here, making it very valuable. Also, when a player is killed by wolves, their identity will not be revealed," Qin Xionglin said helplessly. "Please let me finish explaining; otherwise you won't get your questions answered."
“……” Silence filled the room as Qin Xionglin cleared his throat. “The roles in the Good Person Camp are: Villager, Witch, Idiot, Seer, Guard, and Hunter. The Werewolf Camp only has Werewolves. The role of the Third Party Faction is Piper.”
“The winning conditions are as follows: the Good Person Camp must eliminate all Werewolves and Piper, while the Werewolf Camp must eliminate all Good People and Piper. Piper wins by deceiving all surviving players.”
“The Werewolf's skill allows them to kill one player each night, with their identity remaining hidden.”
“Villagers have no skills.”
“The Witch’s skill lets her see who was killed by the Werewolves each night. Additionally, she has two potions: one Holy Water and one Poison. Holy Water can revive a killed player, while Poison can kill any player. Both potions can be used simultaneously!”
“I just explained the Idiot's Skill, and I believe everyone understands the Seer's Skill, which allows them to predict one player's identity each night.”
“The Guard's Skill allows them to protect one player each night from being killed by Werewolves, but they cannot guard the same person consecutively.”
“The Hunter's Skill allows them to shoot and kill one person if they are killed or voted out. However, if they are poisoned, they cannot use their skill.”
“The Piper’s skill lets them confuse two players each night with their flute.”
“Are there any questions?” Qin Xionglin asked proudly.
“Yes, there are many,” Chen Rui pointed out. “Can a protected person avoid being poisoned by the Witch?”
“No, a protected person can only avoid being killed by Werewolves; they cannot block the Witch’s poison or the Hunter’s bullet.”
“If a Werewolf kills someone who is protected, will the Witch see that?”
“No, the Witch will see that no one was killed.”
“If the Idiot is killed or poisoned, can they still speak freely?”
“Yes, that is correct. Are there any more questions?”
"Not for now, let's start playing."
Qin Xionglin turned to Xia Jin and asked, "Do you know the order of the game?"
"I do, I used to enjoy playing this."
"That's good, no need for explanations." Qin Xionglin sighed in relief and took out his phone, opening an application.
"I am Ace of Spades, which means I'm Player One. The Spade K is Player Negative One. Everyone should check their own identities," he said, tapping a few times on the screen. Suddenly, he paused for a moment, a slight smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.
"Look at him smiling; he probably drew the Cop card. No, he likely drew the Seer card. If someone gets the Wolf card, they should take him out," Seventh Group Leader Lan Ying chuckled.
"Hurry up! Once you see your identity, pass it to me. Why are you dragging it out?" Chen Rui, sitting in the second position, was impatient. He had always been interested in new things. Although Werewolf Game had been around for a while, Chen Rui had never engaged with it before; it was a novelty for him.
Qin Xionglin tapped the screen again and handed the phone to Chen Rui. "After you check your identity, make sure to tap 'Pass Phone' before giving it to the next person; otherwise, your identity will be exposed."
Chen Rui took the phone; the screen was pitch black except for an Lg in the upper right corner and a message in the center saying 'I am Player Two.' Chen Rui tapped on the confirmation prompt, and blue light illuminated several words on the screen: 'Your identity is Piper.'
Seeing those three words, Chen Rui froze for a moment. After confirming he wasn't seeing things, he clicked on Qin Xionglin's 'Pass Phone' button. The phone screen went dark again, and the message changed to 'I am Player Three.'
Chen Rui passed the phone to Jiang Ming sitting on his left. Jiang Ming quickly checked and then handed it over to Seventh Group Leader Lan Ying.
Chen Rui was seated on a large U-shaped sofa. He sat on the right side of Cabin, with Qin Xionglin as Player One on his right.
To his left was Jiang Ming, leader of Nine Group; further left was Seventh Group Leader Lan Ying; then came Sixth Group Leader Bai Chunlan. This made up the five people on the right side of the U-shaped sofa. At the bend in the middle sat three prominent figures: closest to Chen Rui was Zhang Jun, in the middle was Deng Jun, and further away was Xiang Xiao.
To Xiang Xiao's left was Fifth Group Leader Chen Shihua; to Chen Shihua's left was Fourth Group Leader Cui Hongming; next to Cui Hongming was Second Group Leader Gao Zhijie; to Gao Zhijie's left was Eighth Group Leader Ruan Yu; and at the end was Group Leader Seven Tang Yong.
These observations were made from Chen Rui's perspective as everyone silently memorized each person's specific position with serious expressions. The only one smiling was Xia Jin, the sole girl among them.
Soon enough, Tang Yong finished checking his identity and prepared to pass the phone to Qin Xionglin. Qin Xionglin waved his hand and said, "Pass the phone to her; she is God."
Once the phone was in her hand, Xia Jin's smile faded, revealing a demeanor completely different from the shyness she had just shown. With a serious expression, she addressed everyone, "Ladies and gentlemen, the game has begun. Black! Please close your eyes!"
Qin Xionglin appeared visibly excited. "Everyone! This is a gentleman's game, so please adhere to the rules. If you are not instructed to open your eyes at night, do not do so."
"You're such a chatterbox," Chen Rui said with a laugh, playfully slapping Qin Xionglin, though it seemed her hand did not land on his back as intended. However, with the current situation not allowing anyone to open their eyes, Chen Rui chose not to dwell on it.
"The night has fallen; now please let the Seer open their eyes." Xia Jin's voice was directed straight ahead, making it difficult for Chen Rui to determine who she was looking at.
"Do you confirm that you want to predict this player's identity?" The voice grew softer, and its direction shifted! Although it was still unclear who the Seer was, it was certain that the Seer was among the five people directly in front of her.
"Alright, have you finished your inquiry? Good, Seer please close your eyes." Chen Rui's heart raced with excitement. Based on the direction of the voice, she deduced that the Seer must be in her left front area. This meant that the Seer could be one of Deng Jun, Xiang Xiao, Chen Shihua, Cui Hongming, or Gao Zhijie.
Great! Following this rhythm, she could determine each person's approximate identity in just two rounds. A surge of excitement welled up inside her.
"Guard please open your eyes and confirm whom you are protecting tonight. Is it him? Good, Guard please close your eyes." The conversation returned to where it had started.
This meant that the Guard player would be around Deng Jun; thus, the potential candidates for protection were centered around Deng Jun: Deng Jun, Zhang Jun, Xiang Xiao, Bai Chunlan, and Chen Shihua.
Among them, Deng Jun, Xiang Xiao, and Chen Shihua also had the potential to be the Seer.
Typically speaking, as the only defensive role within the Good Person Camp, the Guard's survival ability would certainly be stronger than that of a Villager. However, since the Seer is both a leader among good people and a primary target for the Werewolves, it would be wiser to mislead the Guard rather than confuse the Seer. Therefore, targeting those who might be protected—Zhang Jun and Bai Chunlan—would be a good strategy.
"Werewolf players please open your eyes." The voice remained unchanged in its position at mid-center.
"Please confirm which character you will kill tonight." The tone shifted noticeably toward Chen Rui's side.
"Is it him? Please choose the same target!" The voice changed again; this time Xia Jin's head must have turned significantly as she aimed directly at Chen Rui's position.
"Alright! Werewolf players please close your eyes." The voice returned to its original front position. This indicated that at least two Werewolves were concentrated in one area; they might even be completely separated from each other. If one Werewolf were voted out from one location, there would be a high likelihood that neither of the two people next to them were Werewolves.
"Witch player, please open your eyes. This player has been killed. Would you like to use the Revival Potion? Alright, would you like to use poison? Good. Witch, please close your eyes." This time, Xia Jin was likely speaking to the left of Chen Rui, which meant the witches were: Jiang Ming, Lan Ying, Bai Chunlan, and Zhang Jun.
Zhang Jun and Bai Chunlan were now highly likely to possess valuable identities in Chen Rui's deductions, further solidifying Chen Rui's determination to confuse them.
"Piper, please open your eyes." With Xia Jin's call, Chen Rui opened his eyes and immediately saw Xia Jin's beautiful face. However, the next scene made him feel as if a hundred thousand alpacas were galloping through his mind.
Xia Jin smiled at Chen Rui, then turned to face the direction opposite him and asked, "Which two players do you want to confuse tonight?" After that, she turned back to look at Chen Rui.
Chen Rui felt helpless; all his previous deductions were completely wrong. This girl was indeed an experienced player who wouldn't be easily manipulated. He pointed twice casually, feeling that his chances of winning had diminished significantly. This role was originally one that sought victory through risk, and now he had no advantage at all.
"Piper, please close your eyes." After that, Xia Jin walked around the sand in front of everyone. "The two players I just clapped for, please open your eyes."
Gao Zhijie and Cui Hongming opened their eyes and were somewhat surprised upon seeing each other.
"You are the ones who were just confused. Please close your eyes after confirming."
"Now it's time to reveal everything; all players, please open your eyes!" Once everyone opened their eyes, they saw a girl smiling brightly like a blooming flower. It seemed she truly enjoyed playing this game.
