Back at the office building, Chen Rui comfortably reclined in his chair. "This chair is still the most comfortable."
"You're the only one who feels that way," Liang Yu said, shaking his still-damp hair and splashing water onto Chen Rui's face.
"You two really get along well," Zhang Shi remarked with a smile.
After leaving Jinxiang, the three of them had parted ways. After all, it was autumn now, and they couldn't get soaked like they did in midsummer and just wait for the sun to dry them off.
After getting home, Chen Rui took a quick shower, tossed his clothes into the washing machine, changed into a fresh outfit, and rushed to the company. He was hardly able to catch his breath, but even so, when he arrived at the office, he found that Liang Yu and Zhang Shi had already been there.
"Well then, we've fulfilled your request. You can go directly to Deng Jun and Zhang Jun to discuss the remaining listing plan," Chen Rui said without any hesitation in dismissing them.
"Hey, I'm still a client here. Why is the treatment so different?" Zhang Shi feigned a look of grievance as he teased.
"Alright. So what does the big boss think?"
"I just want to ask you one question," Zhang Shi leaned closer to Chen Rui and asked mysteriously.
"Just say it," Chen Rui replied, annoyed by such teasing words that deliberately kept him in suspense, even though he often did the same himself.
"You don't really think those people see you as a friend or a brother, do you?" Zhang Shi asked with a smile.
"Of course," Chen Rui laughed. "But even so, I am considered a significant partner to them."
"After all, your backing is the government," Zhang Shi joked, standing up and adjusting his clothes. "I won't waste any more of your time; I have some things to attend to. I'll be leaving now."
Chen Rui also stood up. "Take care; I won't see you off."
"The more I listen to you, the more my patience grows."
"Is there something wrong with mine?"
At the end of the long table sat Zhang Jun, facing six young individuals. They were indeed young, though they didn't necessarily have to be younger than Zhang Jun. However, years of careful grooming and skincare made them appear younger than their actual ages.
"We have no precedent for your proposal, so it's difficult for me to make a decision," Zhang Jun said. Even he could not afford to underestimate the six people before him, despite being older.
"Come on, Brother Zhang, you're the one in charge here. Who wouldn't listen to you?" a girl laughed.
"Exactly! If you can't make a decision, then who in this company can?" a boy chimed in.
"Mr. Deng! He oversees everything in our area," Zhang Jun attempted to deflect the group by mentioning Deng Jun, but it backfired.
"Give me a break! We just came from there. He's only monitoring; he doesn't handle the specifics. You're the head, and we've done our homework," an older boy said, feigning mystery. "Or are you actually being sidelined? If so, let me help you deal with whoever it is."
Zhang Jun was at a loss for words, half-amused and half-annoyed. He clasped his fists in salute. "Heroes and heroines, please stop joking around."
"We're not joking; we’re serious."
"Honestly, I didn't see that coming."
"The script is ours to write. Before we enter the dream and meet for the first time, members of the Execution Team are not allowed to access our information. Of course, we won't receive any information about the entire Action Team either. Each person's entry fee will be tripled and guaranteed to be invested into Tier Three Membership afterward. These terms are quite generous, right? Why would you disagree?" The young man gestured with both hands. "I don't understand why you're against it."
"This is too chaotic; there's no precedent for this. Fine, I'll reserve my opinion for now. You all can go back for the time being. I'll see if any Action Team members are willing to take this on. If they are, we'll proceed as you've suggested; if not, I can't force anyone to accept," Zhang Jun replied vaguely, brushing off the group.
"What are you looking at? I have another meeting soon; look, everyone is already outside," Zhang Jun pointed towards Zhang Shi behind the door.
Seeing that there was indeed something going on, the group hurriedly left.
Zhang Shi entered and sat directly opposite Zhang Jun at the long table. "What's wrong?" he asked.
"Nothing much, just a bunch of idle people wanting to experience something," Zhang Jun replied, scratching his head with an annoyed expression.
"Is that so? Isn't that normal? You seem to disagree," Zhang Shi said with a smile.
Zhang Jun shot him a glare. "How could I agree? Their demands challenge basic principles. Although the conditions they offered are quite good, we still need to discuss it together before making a decision."
"Oh? What demands?" Zhang Shi asked, intrigued, trying to pry into matters related to dreams.
In truth, most Dreamers were not very clear about the structure of dreams, let alone how to create scripts. This highlighted just how powerful the group of people from earlier was.
"What are you doing here? Mind your own business!" Zhang Jun rubbed his temples. "I've had enough trouble already; don't come and bother me."
"Alright, alright, Zhang. Let's talk about the listing plan." Zhang Shi pulled out a stack of documents from his briefcase and laid them on the table. The dense white papers made Zhang Jun's head spin.
...
First Floor Conference Room:
"I’m sure everyone knows why I’ve gathered you all here. That’s right, we’ve completed this deal," Chen Rui addressed the nearly hundred people in front of him. "But don’t rush to celebrate; there are many reasons for the short timeline this time."
"I don’t care about that. According to the rules, bonuses should start now," Peng Hao led the call.
"Yes, yes..."
"Peng is right."
"Exactly."
Because of a single remark from Peng Hao, nearly a hundred people below erupted into chaos, turning the entire conference room into a cacophony. Chen Rui shot a fierce glare at Peng Hao, but Peng Hao shamelessly pretended not to notice.
"Alright, according to the usual protocol, we will now begin the distribution of bonuses by the team leaders." As the atmosphere grew increasingly lively, Chen Rui had no choice but to use this method to calm the chaotic venue.
Sure enough, as soon as he spoke, the room fell silent as if it were a dormitory in the dead of night, with everyone's eyes fixed on a row of boxes behind Chen Rui.
This was one of the unique aspects of Chen Rui Group: all bonuses were distributed in cash, with no deductions for taxes whatsoever.
Led by Peng Hao, four team leaders took turns to step onto the stage, each twisting open a black briefcase before returning to their seats under everyone’s watchful gaze.
"Now then..." Chen Rui looked at the now-quiet crowd and intended to continue speaking when an announcement interrupted him.
"All Action Team leaders are requested to proceed immediately to the top-floor office. All Action Team leaders are requested to proceed immediately to the top-floor office..."
Chen Rui frowned slightly; wasn’t this completely undermining his authority? But he couldn’t ignore it; adhering to the principle of being relaxed on the outside but strict on the inside was something he had always followed.
Chen Rui turned to Liang Yu. "You summarize. I have to attend this meeting."
"I... I... Hey! I can't do that!" Liang Yu grabbed Chen Rui's arm.
"You’ve seen it done countless times; just mimic it and learn on your own!" Chen Rui gently pried Liang Yu's hand away. "You are my assistant, which means you’re acting as team leader. Why do I have to do everything myself? This is serious negligence!!!"
After giving Liang Yu a motivational speech, Chen Rui hurriedly took the elevator up to the president's office located on the top floor. The entire top floor was divided into two parts: one half was the president's office, and the other half was a reception room.
The ten team leaders were already waiting in the president's office, but Zhang Jun had yet to appear. They inevitably began some 'entertainment activities,' leading to a scene resembling a casual tea gathering when Zhang Jun finally walked in from the reception room.
Noticing Zhang Jun's sullen expression, everyone quickly composed themselves and took their seats at either end of the long table, awaiting Zhang Jun's address.
"There is a business opportunity—an extremely large one—but it comes with some special requirements." Zhang Jun sat at the table, loosened his tie around his neck, and casually tossed it behind him.
"What special requirements?" Gao Zhijie asked.
"First, the script must be provided by them, and the Execution Team cannot be informed at any point."
"What kind of ridiculous request is that?" Everyone turned their gaze toward Chen Rui.
Chen Rui explained, "These clients are not ordinary. If that's the case, they must know about us and have come to us on their own."
"That's right," Zhang Jun nodded.
Chen Rui took a deep breath and leaned back in his chair. "What are you looking at? It's perfectly normal. They specifically came to play this high-stakes game that costs millions per session. Shouldn't we give them some game experience?"
"That seems like a reasonable interpretation. Is there anything else?" Tang Yong nodded and continued to ask.
Zhang Jun lit a cigarette and took a deep drag. "Second, during the dream process, the Coordination Team, Support Team, and Recording Team cannot communicate with anyone in the dream. Moreover, regardless of what happens, all actions must follow the script."
Cui Hongming frowned. "So, in other words, we are essentially in a completely different world during the dream, with no support at all?"
"That's one way to understand it," Zhang Jun said as he scanned the room. "Lastly, the Action Team will not receive any information or intelligence about each other until they confirm their identities in the dream."
"This is chaotic; how can we operate like this?" Jiang Ming countered. "That's impossible."
"It is possible. The Execution Team will enter the dream before the clients do. After that, the Coordination Team, Support Team, and Recording Team will no longer communicate with anyone in the dream, so it won't count as a leak," Zhang Jun said with a wry smile. "So, who is willing to take on this job?"
"What’s the point of all these stipulations?" Lan Ying asked.
Chen Rui chuckled. "Didn’t we just go through this? These people are just a bunch of wealthy individuals here for entertainment or perhaps to challenge us." Chen Rui smirked. "Isn’t it possible that there’s more than one way to end the dream? Perhaps even a method where the Execution Team gets wiped out?"
Chen Rui's words startled everyone into realization; it made sense now because only such motives would justify the special conditions laid out above.
"That's right, I can't disclose the specifics, but in the script they provided, they are on the opposing side of the Execution Team," Zhang Jun said, looking at everyone. "So, which group wants to take on this task now?"
Chen Rui stood up, laughing as he teased, "We'll take it! If we don't make them fall apart, then all our dreams over the past few years would have been in vain, right?"
"Exactly."
"Yeah, that makes sense."
"But they have the advantage of the script," Gao Zhijie said calmly. "In other words, they always hold the initiative and the right to start the battle."
Chen Rui joked, "Would G be afraid of a player duel? In Dream World, we could be considered G ourselves!"
