Chen Rui's feelings were quite accurate. He had thought Liu Xin would reveal his identity and explain things to the police, but instead, this guy directly encouraged Chiba Kaede to engage in a life-and-death showdown with the Traffic Police. According to Liu Xin, the journey was filled with intensity and passion! It seemed that this guy had become infatuated with something again.
It was unclear whether they had managed to shake off the police or if the police, after discovering the FBI's involvement, had wisely chosen not to investigate further. In any case, no one came to visit Chen Rui, so he decided not to pursue the matter.
Upon returning to the office, he found it still empty, so he had no choice but to take Yuki Chiba to the temporary dormitory. Since they were not locals but were sent by their superiors, a few "temporary dormitories" had been specially prepared for them.
In essence, several offices had been cleared out and furnished with folding beds and blankets.
He brought Yuki Chiba to the girls' dormitory, which left Chen Rui feeling quite troubled. It was clear that there were very few female agents in the FBI, and the treatment between genders was indeed unequal.
The place where Chen Rui had been sleeping was essentially where the male agents stayed.
Now it turned out that the girls' living quarters resembled a five-star hotel!
As soon as he entered the room, there was a soft carpet on the floor, and the living room and bedroom were distinctly separated—it was clearly a high-end suite in a luxury hotel!
Chen Rui's brow furrowed in frustration, but with someone else present, he didn't dare express it openly. He could only smile and say, "I don't know how they arranged this either, so just put your things here and go play in the office."
Yuki Chiba looked surprised. "Is that okay?"
"Weren't you just there?" Chen Rui replied awkwardly.
"Ah, so that was the office? I really didn't expect that," Yuki Chiba said as she placed her luggage beside the sofa, looking at Chen Rui with excitement.
Seeing the lively girl before him, Chen Rui felt a wave of emotions and led her into the office.
Yuki Chiba eagerly rummaged through everyone's desks while Chen Rui aimlessly gazed out of the window. The sky gradually darkened, and before long, light rain began to fall, quickly intensifying.
"Someone should be back soon," Chen Rui thought.
Sure enough, it wasn't long before Peng Hao and Ye Han walked into the office. Chen Rui quickly noticed that Peng Hao's coat was nearly soaked, while Ye Han was completely dry.
Chen Rui teased, "You did well, protecting our big sister like that."
Ye Han lowered her head slightly, while Peng Hao just laughed.
Yuki Chiba looked up from someone's desk and locked eyes with Peng Hao.
Peng Hao smiled at Chen Rui, saying, "You're not exactly a saint either. You can't change your nature no matter where you go; you're just wandering through a garden of flowers, never leaving a single leaf behind."
Just because Chen Rui was used to joking around with Peng Hao didn't mean he would allow him to treat the mission target lightly, even if she wasn't a real person.
"This is the person we need to protect: Yuki Chiba," Chen Rui said seriously, ignoring Peng Hao's teasing.
Peng Hao immediately realized his mistake and quickly smiled apologetically at Yuki Chiba. "I'm really sorry; I misunderstood."
"It's fine, I don't mind," Yuki Chiba replied with a smile. "It seems you guys aren't as cool as in the movies."
"Agents are people too. Most of what you see in movies is exaggerated and doesn't reflect reality," Peng Hao explained. "The truth is often just routine, so there aren't many highlights. That's why soldiers, police officers, and various public servants in films are rarely accurate portrayals of real life."
"And also because they want to protect their image, and some things really can't be exposed, right?" Yuki Chiba leaned forward with a smile. "I know that, but I'm just really curious about what real agents are like."
Just then, Zeng Zhi and Zheng Hui burst into the office. They scanned the room and noticed that Ye Han was completely dry. Zeng Zhi teased, "Having a boyfriend is definitely better; they can shield you from the rain when it matters."
Zheng Hui's sharp eyes caught sight of an unfamiliar Asian girl and looked at Chen Rui with a peculiar expression. "Master, you should take it easy. If this keeps up, the already balanced male-to-female ratio will be thrown off again."
Zheng Hui's words left Chen Rui feeling utterly bewildered. Among the six people present, only Chen Rui, Zeng Zhi, and Zheng Hui remained serious, while the other three burst into laughter in unison.
Peng Hao stifled his laughter and spoke in an extremely formal tone, "You all misunderstand. Our Chen is finally honored this time for not trying to attract women. This is Yuki Chiba, the person we need to protect."
Ye Han chimed in mockingly, "Exactly! How could our Chen Zong possibly be that flirtatious? There was someone notorious for their charm that everyone in the company knew about, but that could never be our Chen Zong!"
Yuki Chiba widened her eyes as she looked at Chen Rui. "I never expected you to be this kind of person. You seem so serious."
"Hey, are you all starting to mock me again? Am I really that easy to tease?" Chen Rui asked, completely confused. "I have no idea how those rumors started; what on earth is going on?"
"Then who exactly is she?" The reactions of the four only left Zheng Hui more puzzled. Which of them was joking? He often joked with friends at work about how Chen Rui was.
While it was true that Chen Rui had a way with women, he wasn't nearly as flirtatious as everyone imagined. The reasons for his popularity with women were as follows:
1. Good looks—In a society that values appearance, looks truly matter.
2. A sense of loneliness—Chen Rui gave off the impression of being a solitary person with few friends, leading girls to believe he was single (which he actually was), prompting them to approach him.
3. Most importantly, his gentleness—Chen Rui would only lose his cool when pushed to the brink and often showed concern for those around him. A warm-hearted man is always appealing.
"She is Yuki Chiba, our protected subject," Chen Rui sighed helplessly. With rumors about him spreading throughout the company, he had come to take it all in stride.
"Oh, so I misunderstood you? But it's not entirely my fault; you do fit the image I had of you," Zheng Hui teased with a playful smile before pulling Zeng Zhi away to change clothes.
"I should go change too," Peng Hao said, tugging at his nearly soaked jacket and speaking softly to Ye Han.
"Hurry up! Don't catch a cold," Ye Han urged, seemingly having forgotten about this matter just moments ago.
"What's there to be afraid of? It won't happen here," Peng Hao quickly changed the subject, realizing he almost let something slip. "I'm heading out now; you keep an eye on Chen Rui and make sure he doesn't get too handsy with Yuki Chiba."
Ye Han pouted, "Aren't you worried he might get handsy with me?"
Chen Rui helplessly interjected, "Are you all doing this on purpose to annoy me? Can't you at least keep your voices down to a level I can't hear?"
Ignoring Chen Rui's complaint, Peng Hao looked at Ye Han and laughed, "He wouldn't dare; just watch me break his legs!"
Yuki Chiba chimed in with a smile, "Then Chen Rui would have to go see an orthopedic doctor, right? Isn't he going to Germany?"
"Has this joke spread to every corner of the world?" Ye Han couldn't help but laugh at Yuki Chiba's comment.
Peng Hao went to change clothes, and Executor 66 returned one after another. The rain outside had nearly reached torrential levels, and everyone who came back was somewhat damp.
Thanks to Yuki Chiba, everyone had gained a deeper understanding of Chen Rui's flirtatious nature, leaving him feeling utterly helpless.
"Is it really necessary for one group to come back and tease me like this? Am I really that flamboyant?" Chen Rui rubbed his head in frustration as he glared at Ye Han.
After pondering for a moment, Ye Han replied, "Maybe you're not as exaggerated as we think, but the way we perceive you is—"
"Stop!" Chen Rui quickly interrupted Ye Han. "Don't provoke me any further."
"However, I don't see you acting like them," Yuki Chiba comforted Chen Rui's wounded spirit.
Yuki Chiba gently patted Chen Rui's head. "It's because you're so gentle." This was the scene Chen Rui imagined in his mind.
The reality was quite different: Yuki Chiba smiled and said, "So far, you haven't made any moves at all. So hey! Hey! Hey! Don't faint now!"
Chen Rui, struck by another arrow, collapsed onto the table, startling Yuki Chiba.
"Alright, I'm just kidding," Yuki Chiba said with a smile.
Chen Rui pretended to be in pain for a moment before shaking it off and activating the intercom. "Attention everyone, non-essential personnel please proceed to the office immediately. Repeat: non-essential personnel please proceed to the office."
Ye Han asked, "What's going on? Is there something happening?"
Chen Rui gazed at the unseen sun slowly sinking below the horizon, as the sky darkened. The city, however, seemed alive, sparkling with brilliant lights. "We don't have any issues; we're just worried someone might cause trouble," Chen Rui replied with a grin at Ye Han.
Before long, everyone arrived at the office, complaining loudly that Chen Rui was not serious.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Chen Rui said, "After we return, the holiday will be extended." The crowd erupted in applause.
Chen Rui then became serious, his sharp gaze sweeping over everyone. As they locked eyes with him, each person understood it was time to get down to business.
"Now, let's go into combat readiness!" Chen Rui commanded.
"What?" Peng Hao asked on behalf of the group.
"Red alert! Level One Readiness! All weapons ready! Everyone into combat status!" This command was clearly meant for military readiness, but Chen Rui used it, fully aware of the current situation.
The group was slightly taken aback but immediately began executing the orders. According to the script, this mission was expected to encounter serious trouble, so their armament was up to military standards. In case of emergency, everyone would be ready to fight.
Looking at the now empty office again, Yuki Chiba felt a bit lost. "What are you all preparing for?"
"To protect you," Chen Rui smiled at her as he pulled a bulletproof vest from under the table and handed it to Yuki Chiba. "Put this on; it might be a bit big, but make do with it."
Yuki Chiba did not take the item. "Isn't this yours? How can you give it to me?"
Chen Rui shoved a bulletproof vest into her hands. "There are plenty of these. Put it on."
Soon, everyone was fully armed as they entered the office, waiting for Chen Rui's next command.
"The female agent will handle communications here. The rest of you, follow me," Chen Rui said, turning to Yuki Chiba. "You stay here."
Chen Rui led the group to the large dining hall on the second floor and dispersed the crowd.
"Here, set up a defensive formation," Chen Rui pointed at the massive floor-to-ceiling windows.
"Are you so sure they'll attack our home directly?" Peng Hao frowned, handing Chen Rui a 9mm pistol and a belt filled with magazines. "Is it really that serious?"
"Yes, it's precisely in the places you think are impossible for an attack that they will catch you off guard amidst the chaos," Chen Rui nodded, taking the belt and wrapping it around his waist. At that moment, his shirt and trousers paired with the tactical belt created an extremely mismatched appearance.
Suddenly, the fire alarm in the building blared loudly. Chen Rui quickly ordered, "Everyone, evacuate the building! Everyone, including the information team, evacuate!"
As they rushed outside, they saw thick smoke billowing from the eleventh floor of the building, yet there were no visible flames.
"Damn it! Did we get tricked?"
