"They must have been in an accident, be careful, they must have been in an accident!" Zhan Min said into the walkie-talkie.
The cars in front of him were all crashed together, blocking half of the tunnel, and a group of people was arguing nearby. As a result, the movement of vehicles was extremely slow. Zhan Min got out to examine the marks on the ground and confirmed that it was due to the Buick ahead not being able to steer in time when the car beside it caused a series of collisions.
"They haven't come out yet. Did you lose track of them?" Ye Han stood at the tunnel exit, watching as Liu Xin's team checked each vehicle passing through. After confirming one, they would move a roadblock or remove tire spikes to allow one vehicle to pass. Although this affected traffic, it ensured that the target wouldn't escape.
"Come on, don't joke around! This is a one-way tunnel; there's no way to turn around in the middle! Am I blind or something? How could I not see a car going the wrong way?" Zhan Min found Ye Han's concern amusing.
"We've arrived," Chen Rui saluted Ye Han with an American military salute.
"Of course, I’m not blind enough to miss such a big helicopter!" Ye Han mimicked Zhan Min's words. "Even if I couldn't see it, I could feel the wind."
"Hurry down and don't let them break through the checkpoint," Chen Rui patted Peng Hao's back, dropped the rope, and started urging people along.
"Alright, alright, I won't disturb your little world anymore," Peng Hao laughed as he grabbed the rope and began to slide down before Chen Rui could hit him.
Soon, apart from one member still stuck on the road, the other six from Peng Hao's team had begun assisting with the capture operation.
After a while, even Chen Rui was getting anxious and quickly asked, "Zhan Min, are you sure you're not blind? It's been so long and we haven't seen a shadow!"
"Don't rush me; I definitely haven't let them slip away," Zhan Min replied, feeling a bit impatient. Could those people really be hiding underground? Did they vanish along with their car?
Suddenly, Zhan Min spotted a black Buick that had clearly been hit on its right side ahead and exclaimed, "Target sighted; it's still here!"
"All personnel, pay attention! Do not fire until they do! Everyone unlock your safety!" Chen Rui ordered urgently. A total of five rows of tire spikes completely sealed off the tunnel exit; as long as they dared to break through, there was no way they could escape.
At the same time Zhan Min saw the Buick, those inside it also spotted Zhan Min's Chevrolet. The Buick suddenly accelerated, trying to shake off Zhan Min.
"The car accelerated; they're preparing to break through!" Zhan Min clearly saw that the Buick once again moved close to the wall. However, this time it wasn't driving on one side but rather inappropriately occupying a lane where it shouldn't be.
Zhan Min hurriedly pressed the accelerator, closely following the Buick.
"Evacuate the personnel," Chen Rui frowned. There were still many people in some vehicles at the tunnel exit, which was definitely a troublesome situation.
"We don't have time. I see it," Ye Han tightened his grip on the rifle in his hands. The safety was not in the open position as per Chen Rui's orders; Ye Han was ready to fire at any moment.
"Bang! Bang!" Two crisp sounds of tires bursting accompanied the Buick's loss of control. The Buick, attempting to turn left, crashed into a Chevrolet that was blocking the tunnel exit due to the blown tires.
As the Buick remained still, everyone consciously disengaged their gun safeties and slowly surrounded the vehicle.
A girl wearing a white shirt, blue skirt, sneakers, and a baseball cap emerged from the driver's seat of the Buick. With her ponytail, she looked as cute as a cheerleader at a high school sports meet.
"She’s really young," Chen Rui thought to himself, surprised that those words came out of his mouth. But it was too late for regrets; the pain in his waist had already reached his brain, making him nearly drop the rifle he held.
"Young? She's older than I am," Li Xue said with annoyance, tugging at Chen Rui's waist. Even with her coat on, she could feel the intense pain, indicating how hard she was pulling.
After a while, there was no movement from inside the car. Seeing Zhou Yan's mocking smile, Chen Rui shouted, "It's a trap!"
Peng Hao and others immediately rushed over, handcuffing Zhou Yan while also opening the door of the Buick: it was empty!
"You idiot! Didn't you say you let them go? What’s going on?" Chen Rui yelled into the walkie-talkie at Zhan Min. "Is this what you call letting them go?"
"Was she really the only one in the car from start to finish?" Zhan Min began to argue back, trying to shirk responsibility. "Maybe Lujie made a mistake."
"Don't blame me; I have it all on video. If you don’t believe me, come see for yourself. There were definitely four people who got into that car, and none of them were in the driver's seat—there were five people in total!" Lujie was furious at Zhan Min's words; it was ridiculous to blame others for his own failures.
Zhan Min suddenly recalled that at the crash site, there had been a group of people arguing...
"Alright, it seems like I didn't let them slip away, but they don't have any means of transportation now. We..." Zhan Min explained.
"What do you mean they have no transportation? Do you know where they hid a few cars?" Chen Rui was genuinely frustrated. A perfectly set trap had been ruined by the mistakes of his subordinates. "Alright, Zhan Min Group, keep searching. The rest of you return to the base with me."
"Ye Han, bring that person to me, and you come along too." Chen Rui instructed Ye Han to escort Zhou Yan onto the helicopter.
Zhou Yan looked at the meticulously dressed Li Xue and pouted, "Brother Chen, is this how you show favoritism?" He raised his hand, which was cuffed, "The difference is too stark; it's clear you only love her."
"I'm sorry, I'm not a philanthropist, nor will I fall in love with someone else's wife," Chen Rui replied with a smile, showing no intention of unlocking Zhou Yan's cuffs.
"That's so mean! Xue, please help me plead my case," Zhou Yan said, realizing his attempt to win over Chen Rui had failed. He turned to Li Xue and started to act cute. Li Xue glanced at Chen Rui.
Chen Rui silently shook his head, and Li Xue comforted Zhou Yan by patting his head. "It's okay; just ignore it in your heart."
"Come on, you two are already starting to sing in harmony. It's such a waste of how I treated you back then," Zhou Yan crossed his arms and puffed out his cheeks, pretending to be angry while occasionally glancing at Li Xue.
"Enough! Do you believe I would treat you the same way you treated me back then?" Li Xue laughed.
Zhou Yan's expression changed dramatically as he quickly admitted defeat. "I was wrong."
The helicopter soon returned with the four of them to the building they controlled.
After sending Zhou Yan into the office, Chen Rui turned to Ye Han. "You have ten minutes to interrogate her!"
"Three minutes will do!" Ye Han smiled slightly. "This is your order; now I understand why you wanted me to come back with you. You want to indulge her while making me the bad guy. Hmph."
Ye Han chuckled lightly and chose not to engage further with Chen Rui.
Chen Rui awkwardly chuckled a couple of times before pulling Li Xue out of the office and closing the door, leaving Ye Han and Zhou Yan inside.
"I'm worried that the others will see Zhou Yan getting beaten and start a rebellion," Chen Rui said to Li Xue.
"I don't think that will happen," Li Xue replied with a smile. "I reckon three minutes should be about right."
...
Ye Han uncuffed Zhou Yan, allowing her to stretch her body. Leaning closer, she asked, "I want to see your boss! Where is he?"
Zhou Yan moved her neck and smiled, "I won't tell you anything!"
Ye Han laughed, "I knew you'd say that!"
Ye Han made the first move, throwing a straight punch at Zhou Yan's pretty face. Zhou Yan immediately brought her hands up in front of her face, blocking the punch. Without hesitation, she countered with a right hook aimed at Ye Han's abdomen.
Ye Han quickly leaned back, using her right hand to deflect Zhou Yan's hook off course.
Seizing the opportunity while Ye Han was exposed on her right side, Zhou Yan threw a straight punch that struck Ye Han's chest. The immense impact sent Ye Han crashing against the partition of the office desk.
Zhou Yan chuckled lightly, "Sorry, I'm a trained boxer."
Outside the door, Li Xue frowned as she heard the commotion inside growing louder. She couldn't help but worry for Ye Han and reminded Chen Rui, "Is this really legal?"
"No!" Chen Rui replied with a laugh.
"Bang..." Another loud thud echoed from inside, clearly indicating someone had collided with the table.
Chen Rui laughed again upon hearing this. "Do you want to go in and stop them?"
Li Xue gave a wry smile and stopped talking.
Inside the office:
"You are breaking the rules!" Zhou Yan said with a grim face.
"This isn't a boxing ring," Ye Han replied with a smile, stepping forward.
Zhou Yan quickly stepped back. "You bastard, I have legal authority."
Ye Han laughed as he charged at Zhou Yan. "Not today."
"Bang!" Someone crashed into the office door, causing a noticeable tremor that even Chen Rui and Li Xue could feel.
Li Xue couldn't help but worry. "We should go in and check; Zhou Yan is really strong."
Chen Rui chuckled. "Is that so? Ye Han likes strong ones!"
"No! No!" A desperate voice echoed from inside, clearly filled with fear from a severe blow.
Moments later, Ye Han emerged supporting Zhou Yan, and Li Xue was stunned when she saw Zhou Yan.
"How did you do that?" Li Xue couldn't help but ask.
"What about you? Actually, our skills are pretty much the same, but she said something stupid," Ye Han replied with a grin.
Zhou Yan said with a bitter smile: “I really have a big mouth!”
“Alright, let’s get you back to the dorm to rest. You should also take care of your injuries,” Chen Rui advised. “After all this, don’t tell me you didn’t ask anything.”
Ye Han stuck out her tongue playfully as she helped Zhou Yan into the elevator.
“Ye Han is amazing! Zhou Yan has trained with an Olympic boxing champion! Even if she didn’t learn very well, she’s not someone an ordinary person can handle,” Li Xue exclaimed in shock.
Chen Rui walked into the office and, seeing the mess, had a pretty good idea of what had happened. “Oh, I guess she must have had an advantage at first, which is why it turned out like this. That’s why she lost.”
“Why?” Li Xue asked, puzzled. “This should have been intimidating; how did it backfire?”
“The intimidation only works on those who haven’t practiced intense combat sports, but Ye Han doesn’t belong to that group,” Chen Rui sighed. “Ye Han has trained in Sanda, which focuses on punches, kicks, and throws. She might not be as good at punching as Zhou Yan, but she has her legs.”
“I still don’t understand.”
“In Sanda, there’s a classic saying: ‘Kick from afar, punch up close, grapple when in range.’ This expresses the distance for each type of attack. Zhou Yan doesn’t know how to use her legs, so Ye Han would definitely take advantage of that. By keeping her distance and attacking with kicks, she stays just outside of Zhou Yan’s punching range, leaving Zhou Yan to passively take hits.”
“So does that mean someone who only knows boxing can’t beat someone who practices Sanda?”
“Not necessarily. If one side is significantly stronger or has more technical mastery than the other, then the strategy I just mentioned wouldn’t hold up because the opponent could counter your attacks with more advanced moves,” Chen Rui explained, clenching his fists.
“However, just going out to play without asking a single question seems a bit excessive, doesn’t it?”
