Stepping out of the office, Li Xue nestled against Chen Rui's chest, smiling, "What's wrong? Can't you wait any longer?"
Chen Rui was taken aback. "What can't I wait for? It's not me who can't wait; it should be that driver who's impatient!"
Realizing that Chen Rui misunderstood her, Li Xue couldn't help but laugh awkwardly and playfully pinched him.
"Ouch! Why did you pinch me? What did I do to deserve that?" Chen Rui complained, feeling the sudden sting.
"I just wanted to," Li Xue said with a grin as she ran ahead.
The two of them got into a Chevrolet again. This time, their mission was straightforward: they just needed more vehicles.
Surprisingly, they had brought over fourteen large seven-seater SUVs at once. Previously, they had mostly traveled in groups of two or three per car.
Thinking about it, it made sense; after all, they needed to carry weapons, equipment, and some internal surveillance gear, all of which took up a lot of space.
Thanks to the normalization of the Traffic Management System, even though traffic volume hadn't decreased much, the flow had improved significantly.
Arriving at the police station, as they entered the Office Hall, Chen Rui noticed the sheriff entangled in a discussion with the driver. Upon seeing Chen Rui approach, the sheriff seemed relieved and pushed the driver toward him before heading back to his office.
"You took too long," the driver complained. "This delay has cost me quite a bit."
Chen Rui smiled apologetically. "I'm really sorry for keeping you waiting for so long. However, we can start discussing compensation now, including your mental distress fees and any losses incurred during this time; we will cover everything."
The driver nodded silently. "Actually, this car belongs to my boss. If I come back with it in this condition without compensation, I won't be able to explain myself."
Chen Rui pulled out a checkbook and tore off a check, handing it to the driver with a smile. "We're all just trying to make a living; it's not easy for anyone. Please write down an amount you think is fair."
The Driver was taken aback by Chen Rui's actions. Wasn't he afraid of being taken advantage of? Nevertheless, he accepted the blank check, pulled out a pen, wrote down a few numbers, and handed it back to Chen Rui.
Chen Rui glanced at it, nodded, and signed his name on the check. However, he did not hand it directly to the driver. "Let's first go to the officer to sign the waiver."
After signing the waiver, one copy of the document was left at the police station while Chen Rui took the other. The Driver left the station, elated with the check in hand.
"Is there anything else you need?" the officer asked.
"Actually, I need to borrow your department's helicopter for a while," Chen Rui replied with a smile.
"Well, I’ll need to consult with my Superior Department before making a decision," the officer said as he picked up an internal phone, dialed a few numbers, and made the call.
This time, Chen Rui did not leverage headquarters' influence, so the process took longer. He sat quietly on a sofa in the office, waiting and preparing for Li Xue's potential attack.
"Okay, I understand," the officer said after hanging up. He stood up and told Chen Rui, "Your request has been approved. However, for safety reasons, please sign your name on this document."
Chen Rui walked over to the desk and picked up the document handed to him by the officer. It was also a usage contract stating that the helicopter was rented to Chen Rui for seventy-two hours without mentioning any information about the FBI.
"This is because higher-ups don’t want external parties to know; they fear it might cause some negative repercussions," the officer explained, anxious not to offend this "high-ranking FBI official."
"I understand; everyone has their difficulties," Chen Rui said casually as he elegantly signed his name in fancy cursive on the white paper.
"One more thing to keep in mind: since this is ultimately a police helicopter, it must return to the station for refueling. The pilot will be aware of this, but we ask for your cooperation," the officer wiped his forehead of cold sweat. The person before him looked younger than him but exuded immense power; he probably held a high position within the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Such individuals usually had bright futures ahead of them, so it was best to maintain good relations.
"Sure, I will cooperate. And if I complete my mission early, I will return it ahead of schedule," Chen Rui said, feeling somewhat at a loss as he noticed how courteous the older officer was towards him.
The officer smiled and led them out of the office. After summoning two pilots, he returned to his office with a grin.
"Hey! It's you guys again. What brings you here this time?" Chen Rui turned around to see the same young pilot from last time, brimming with energy.
The co-pilot nudged him, and the pilot quickly welcomed them. "Sorry, we got a bit carried away in our previous conversation."
"It's fine, I don't mind. No need to explain. Just take us back now, okay?" Chen Rui smiled.
"Is the car parked here?" Li Xue poked Chen Rui in the side as a reminder.
Chen Rui suppressed the urge to react to the sudden jab in his side and smiled at the two young pilots. "You can fly over by yourselves. It's that tall building you reached last time. You know the way, right?"
"If we don't know the way, can't we just look at a map? Leave it to me; I'll definitely get there faster than you," the pilot replied, leaving Chen Rui both amused and exasperated. Of course, even if they traveled at the same speed, flying in a straight line would naturally be quicker.
After giving his instructions, Chen Rui drove back with Li Xue, grateful for her presence as she had helped him realize the extra uses of their vehicles.
"You have quite a tolerance," Li Xue teased with a smirk.
Just moments ago, she had poked him in a particularly sensitive spot just below his ribcage—an area that was unusually sensitive due to its lack of bone protection. Most people would have straightened up and shivered from such a sudden poke.
"Isn't it thanks to you that I've developed this tolerance?" Chen Rui replied, half-annoyed but unable to stay mad when he saw Li Xue's playful expression.
"Just trying to lower your physical resilience a bit and give you some stimulation," Li Xue giggled behind her hand.
"This is how you train physical resilience? Who taught you that?" Chen Rui felt as if he had drunk too much liquor, his head spinning slightly.
Upon returning to the office, they found a crowd gathered around the two pilots, bombarding them with questions.
It turned out that Lujie had learned about this helicopter's return and discovered from the pilots that it was Chen Rui's orders that brought them here. He then invited the pilots into the office for some rest.
The young pilot felt a bit nervous upon seeing Chen Rui return and came over to salute.
Chen Rui looked at the two of them, who seemed somewhat restrained, and couldn't help but smile. "There's no need to be so formal. We're aiming for efficiency; as long as we ensure that, everything else can be a bit more relaxed."
"Understood." The pilot felt more at ease after hearing Chen Rui's words and continued chatting with everyone.
The co-pilot still appeared somewhat tense and didn't relax as much. Chen Rui noticed this and smiled as he patted the co-pilot's shoulder. "Come with me."
"Call Peng Hao over," Chen Rui said to Li Xue.
"No need to bother, I'm right here," Peng Hao replied as he approached, looking at Chen Rui. "What's up?"
"Is this all the weaponry we have here? Just these rifles?" Chen Rui asked.
He hadn't been involved in this matter from the beginning, and his personal weapons box only contained similar equipment.
Chen Rui's question left the co-pilot astonished. Was this really all? The gear they had was a fully organized enhanced version of armament, almost comparable to special forces!
The automatic rifle was equipped with a holographic optical sight and thermal imaging telescope. The non-slip grip on the left side had an infrared lamp and high-intensity searchlight, while below it was loaded with the latest grenade launcher. The magazine featured a compact dual-direction design; when empty, it could simply be flipped over and inserted again for continued use. Each magazine had a capacity of nearly a hundred rounds, greatly ensuring sustained firepower for combat personnel.
The grenades on the harness included enemy identification target grenades and tracking grenades that were still in the testing phase. As for other equipment, he had never heard of them before. To be armed like this and still call it just "these"?
"Actually, there are some larger pieces of equipment that are difficult to carry; I just left them upstairs, in the dormitory," Peng Hao's words once again stirred the co-pilot's heart.
"What exactly do we have?" Chen Rui asked while walking.
"Well, actually those SUVs are equipped with 14s; I don't know if you have them now. Then there are four 61s left. Although they come with support frames and mobile platforms, I wouldn't dare use those here due to their risks. You know what they're called: Vulcan Cannons. And those can't be mounted on vehicles," Peng Hao pondered as he recalled the scene of moving items right after the meeting began.
"Well, there are still four Thunder Gods, but they haven't been used because they're too heavy. Oh!" Peng Hao suddenly became excited. "There's also a Miniature Remote-Controlled Armed Helicopter that can carry 14."
As Peng Hao was talking about these, the pilot beside him had already entered a semi-stunned state.
The 61 cannon, scientifically known as the Vulcan Cannon, had a caliber and a ferocious firepower of nearly eight rounds per minute, which meant it was only found on armed helicopters.
The Thunder God portable missile, initially the Javelin Missile, had undergone a qualitative leap due to improvements in the Fire Control System and loading system. It could fire four missiles at one to four targets simultaneously, automatically selecting the fastest strike route based on the target's position, movement path, and surrounding geography. It was generally used for air defense and anti-tank operations but could also conduct precision strikes with an effective range exceeding eight kilometers. If it was an air attack and the target was locked on while the aircraft couldn't exceed its speed, there was basically no escape from being hit.
Arriving at the "warehouse" filled with various heavy equipment, Chen Rui pointed at the 61. "Get this installed on the helicopter."
"This might be a bit difficult. I'm not sure if there are suitable mounting points; after all, this is meant for military armed helicopters. I don't even know if a Police Helicopter can withstand such fierce recoil," Peng Hao frowned, thinking Chen Rui's idea was somewhat unrealistic.
"It can be done; there are suitable lifting positions. However, we lack a Fire Control System, so it would have to be operated manually," the pilot said with gleaming eyes, excitedly.
