"Can you put in a little more effort?" Chen Rui gritted his teeth and asked.
"Come on, big brother! This thing weighs three hundred pounds. With just the four of us, how could we possibly lift it?" Peng Hao wiped the sweat from his forehead and rolled his eyes at Chen Rui.
"There’s no way around it; this thing is just too heavy for a few people to lift," Chen Rui sighed helplessly. "It seems we can't use it after all."
After pushing two 61 cannons to the rooftop, Chen Rui, Peng Hao, and the two pilots found that they couldn't load them directly. They needed to lift them onto the mounting bracket, but the four of them simply couldn't manage it.
Having more people would only lead to overcrowding and make it harder to exert force, so they were stuck without any progress.
"Wait," the co-pilot called out. "I think this sliding base has a lifting function."
"Why didn't you mention that earlier?" the pilot groaned. "I'm exhausted."
"No, I just remembered it," the co-pilot said as he fumbled around the base. He quickly found an extendable rod and pulled it out with force, revealing a lever.
"Oh," the four of them sighed in relief upon seeing the lever.
The co-pilot vigorously moved the lever, causing the base to rise gradually until it reached a height suitable for attaching to the mounting bracket.
As Peng Hao secured the latch, he frowned and asked, "How could this fit perfectly? What was this mounting bracket designed for?"
"It was originally designed to mount the latest dual-mounted police machine gun, but due to design issues, this model seems to have been upgraded for military use, rendering this bracket useless. However, its design is identical to that of the 61," the co-pilot marveled, surprised that it fit so well—it was as if it had been prepared specifically for the 61.
"Alright, it's installed now. Push the vehicle over there!" Peng Hao said with a smile as he tapped on the 61.
Since they only needed to secure the latch and connect the safety chain, it didn't take long.
"All done, but I’m not sure how much thrust this aircraft has. Just in case, we shouldn't use it together unless absolutely necessary; the recoil from the 61 is quite strong," Peng Hao cautioned. However, seeing how eagerly the co-pilot was drooling over it made him realize his words probably weren't being taken seriously.
"I understand," Chen Rui nodded.
Without a Fire Control System, these two cannons could only operate in manual mode. After special modifications, both cannons could be fully operated by a single person, similar to using a 14.
"Alright, let's put it here and head back to the office." Chen Rui straightened his clothes and led the three of them back to the office.
As they approached the office, Chen Rui could hear the commotion coming from inside.
Pushing the door open, he realized that the Zhan Min Group had already returned, and he couldn't help but furrow his brow.
He had instructed the Zhan Min Group not to return without orders, yet he had not given them any command to come back.
Seeing Chen Rui enter, Zhan Min approached him and asked, "What's going on?"
Chen Rui was puzzled, thinking to himself: I haven't even asked you what's going on! If there's nothing happening, why did you come back? Why are you asking me?
Zhan Min noticed Chen Rui's unusual expression and reminded him, "Didn't you order us to return immediately if there was an emergency?"
Chen Rui understood now; it seemed someone was bored and had sent an order to the Zhan Min Group just for fun, waiting to see what would happen next.
"There's nothing going on now; just stand by," Chen Rui said. Since he knew the Zhan Min Group was innocent, he wouldn't pursue the matter further. However, he wouldn't send them out again either. The upcoming situation might not be too difficult, but only if they had enough personnel. Therefore, all mobile forces should remain on standby here.
As Chen Rui refrained from reprimanding Zhan Min, the noise in the crowd quieted down significantly. As he approached the group, the voices gradually faded away, and everyone silently watched him.
"Looks like everyone is just bored with nothing to do," Chen Rui said with a smile, but no one responded.
He intended to continue teasing them when he heard faint sirens outside.
"Go check it out," Chen Rui waved his hand for Peng Hao to look out the window while he picked up the intercom. "Lujie, Lujie, what's going on with those sirens outside?"
"We just connected with the police station. A moment ago, an armed group invaded a branch of an American bank on Highway 596. The situation is quite grim; they've dispatched two teams of police and a special operations team. The police force at the station has already been halved. Do we need to go help?" Lujie's voice sounded anxious over the intercom, and the sound of sirens was fading away.
"Yes, of course we need to go. Is it the one north of Highway 95?" Chen Rui asked.
"Yes, that's the one."
"Alright," Chen Rui said as he turned off the intercom. "Peng Hao."
"At your service!" Peng Hao said with a grin, giving a somewhat unorthodox American salute.
"Take your direct subordinates, drive four vehicles, and head out for support," Chen Rui ordered.
"Four vehicles? One would be enough. Besides, some of those vehicles can only fit one person. What's the point? Those who aren't good drivers will just slow us down," Peng Hao questioned, throwing out a barrage of inquiries, yet his face remained devoid of any anxiety, still sporting that infuriating smile.
"Since you know that, stop wasting time and get moving," Chen Rui replied, feeling helpless against this undisciplined Team Leader. However, he was undeniably useful in critical moments.
Li Xue leaned closer to Chen Rui and asked, "He knows, right?"
"Of course. He's just one of those... troublesome people," Chen Rui said after a moment's thought.
The reason for sending Peng Hao's team out in four vehicles was to confuse the enemy about how many forces Chen Rui had deployed. Additionally, it was to enhance their firepower. Although the Type 14 weapon had been in use for decades, its performance and firepower still surpassed all current Automatic Rifles. The firepower net formed by four Type 14 Machine Guns could effectively block any infantry movement.
"He's quite an interesting person!" Li Xue chuckled. "Knowing full well that this operation won't encounter any real targets, he still has so much enthusiasm."
"Yeah!" Chen Rui sighed. "I wonder where he gets all that motivation from?"
"Would you have that much enthusiasm if it were you?" Li Xue teased, her sparkling eyes fixed intently on Chen Rui's face.
"I don't know; it depends on my mood," Chen Rui replied vaguely.
"Mood?" Li Xue seemed surprised.
Chen Rui smiled. "As long as I'm happy."
"As long as you're happy." Li Xue was momentarily taken aback by Chen Rui's response.
Chen Rui thought it shouldn't have such an effect; wasn't he generally quite optimistic?
"What's wrong?" Chen Rui asked.
Li Xue playfully poked him and stuck out her tongue in a mock-disdainful manner. "Nothing much; I just think you're too easygoing."
"Oh? Is that so?" Chen Rui smiled awkwardly, preparing to change the subject.
"Attention! Attention! Current situation!" Lujie's hoarse voice came through the intercom. It seemed that even he, despite his strong physique, was struggling after being on the rooftop for so long.
Chen Rui quickly grabbed the intercom, urgently saying, "Go ahead."
"The police department just received news that a city bank on Highway 59 has been invaded by armed assailants. They need to keep some personnel on standby, so only one team of police and a special operations unit are being dispatched. They hope we can assist," Lujie said loudly. "The police are already on their way!"
"Specific location!" Chen Rui asked calmly.
"Highway 59, specifically at 1145 F1aing Rd, roughly about a kilometer west of Highway 15," Lujie impatiently flipped through the electronic map, relaying the information to Chen Rui as quickly as possible.
"Okay, you continue monitoring. Let me know if there are any issues," Chen Rui replied.
First it was the north, now it's the west! Was this still a feint? It was hard to tell, but it certainly couldn't be ignored.
"Ye Han!"
"Here!" Ye Han was clearly much more serious than Peng Hao, exuding a military-like calmness that contrasted sharply with Peng Hao's playful demeanor.
"You take your team and drive three vehicles to provide support. Have Lujie send the map to your personal terminal. Leave immediately!" Chen Rui focused on the map in front of him, trying to identify the next potential target.
Of course, he hoped there wouldn't be a next one.
But his instincts told him that things were not so simple.
"Understood!" Ye Han quickly left the office with her team. With two groups gone at once, the office felt significantly quieter as everyone waited silently for their own assignments and objectives.
"Chen Rui! Chen Rui!" Peng Hao's voice came through the intercom.
"Have you arrived?" Chen Rui asked.
"We're here, but I feel like our presence is unnecessary. There are only four armed intruders, and there are about sixty police officers outside—not counting special forces! If they manage to escape now, it would be ridiculous," Peng Hao said with a somewhat helpless laugh, as if he had just punched tofu—frustrated himself and leaving the tofu equally displeased.
"Are you sure it was four armed intruders?" Chen Rui asked.
"Absolutely. I've reviewed the CCTV footage several times, and it's definitely four people."
"Then it probably isn't them. If it were, they wouldn't use all their forces to attack at once. At least one would be prepared to retreat. Such a reckless action would only trap them in a quagmire," Chen Rui quickly analyzed, arriving at this conclusion.
Suddenly, a violent explosion echoed from the other end of the intercom, followed by intense gunfire. The sounds alone conveyed the chaotic situation on the scene; describing it as a hail of bullets would not be an exaggeration.
"Oh wow! This is amazing!" Peng Hao exclaimed excitedly.
Chen Rui frowned. This guy was happy mainly because there was something to do, but the fact that there was something to do in such a situation was definitely not a good sign!
"What’s wrong?"
"Those four people! They're wearing bomb suits!!! They seem to be military-grade, and the police's weapons are practically useless against them!" Peng Hao's excitement was impossible to hide.
Just as Chen Rui was about to scold him, he was interrupted again. "This is incredible!!!" Peng Hao shouted again. "A bulldozer just crashed through a line of police cars set up as a barricade! They've gotten onto the bulldozer! Oh! It's unstoppable!"
"If it's so entertaining, why don't you hurry up and chase them? They're a bunch of idiots; if they get away, you can forget about playing!" Chen Rui sighed at Peng Hao's words but remained harsh in his tone.
"How could we let them leave so easily?" Peng Hao's laughter shifted slightly, becoming colder without him realizing it. "Everything is under control!"
