As everyone entered the office, they fell into a state of disarray, each collapsing into their chairs. Despite this, their chatter was relentless. The four "Armed Robbers" audaciously took over the row of soft seats designated for Chen Rui.
Zeng Zhi poured himself a cup of coffee and chatted with Zheng Hui as they walked, only to collide with Chen Rui. The scalding coffee splashed onto Zeng Zhi's hand, causing him to instinctively throw the cup away. The entire cup of instant coffee ended up on Lujie's notebook, which seemed to enjoy the unexpected shower and let out a satisfied burp afterward.
"Ah! My notebook!!!" Lujie cried out, staring at the now black screen of his device, looking painfully at Chen Rui. "You have to reimburse me when we get back; it died in the line of duty."
"When we get back, you won't need a vacation," Chen Rui silently raised his middle finger at Lujie.
"By the way, where's Yan?" Zhou Zhi finally remembered his almost-girlfriend, who had been captured by Chen Rui while covering their retreat.
"Probably sleeping," Chen Rui shrugged, unsure of what she could be doing in the dorm.
"Hurry and call her down! We need to hold a meeting; time is running out!" Zhou Zhi urged, his expression serious.
Chen Rui called Ye Han to bring Zhou Yan down; after all, these two had already established a deep 'friendship.'
"What do you mean time is running out? You just got caught here; is the world about to end?" Chen Rui teased as he sat down.
Li Li nodded. "That interpretation works too. However, here's the situation: to ensure entertainment value and make the game more engaging, we've added a command in the data. From the moment the system determines our failure, random missions will immediately activate and skip straight to the mid-stage, bypassing all initial preparation time."
Chen Rui analyzed this. "If that's the case, and if the system has already judged your failure, then we must have entered the mid-stage of subsequent missions. There should be some noticeable changes."
"Theoretically," Zhou Zhi replied. "But since it's based on the system's judgment of our success or failure, it's hard to control this positioning. It's possible that we haven't been fully deemed as failures yet because we're still in a semi-free state."
"That's a possibility. If you have indeed been recognized as having failed the mission by the system, there should be some significant disturbances by now. For instance, if it were Sister Wang's script, there would already be news of various disasters from around the world. But right now, there's not a peep." Chen Rui's fingers rhythmically tapped on the table, a rare gesture that reflected his inner turmoil.
"The key question is, to what extent do you consider yourselves to have failed? That standard is crucial," Peng Hao interjected with a smile. "What if the system determines that as long as you survive, it doesn't count as failure? That would be unfortunate, and your ideas would be shattered."
"That can't be true..." Qin Xin forced a smile, clearly struggling to accept this premise.
Chen Rui pondered for a moment before addressing the five people in front of him. "Once Sister Zhou Yan arrives, I’ll need everyone to cooperate with the work."
With that, Chen Rui pulled out a box from under the table and retrieved a pile of shiny handcuffs. To Li Li and the others, Chen Rui's smiling face seemed anything but sincere at that moment.
The atmosphere plummeted to freezing point with the sight of the handcuffs, and no one spoke.
After a long silence, Li Li finally broke the ice, attempting to lighten the mood.
"How did you manage to resolve those issues so quickly? I thought you had at least another team on standby, but it seems like all your teams have already been deployed. Still, I must admit, resolving it so swiftly is impressive."
"It was indeed difficult. If we had used conventional methods to capture them, it would have been nearly impossible. But we are different. First, they posed a serious threat to our safety. Second, Chen Rui has ordered us to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, which means we can use any means necessary to accomplish our mission."
Peng Hao smiled lightly; his words didn't directly answer Li Li's question, but they left Li Li and the others in shock.
"What do you mean?" Although they suspected the deeper meaning behind Peng Hao's words, they still found it hard to believe that such methods could be employed so casually.
"Our motto is!" Peng Hao stood up, placing one foot on the desk, propping himself up with his left arm while raising his right hand slightly and bowing his head theatrically.
"Simple and brutal, for maximum efficiency!"
A group of people behind him joined in shouting this seemingly unremarkable slogan, even adding a hint of self-mockery to it.
However, upon deeper analysis, the eight words in this statement can be said to interpret the relationship between "strategy" and "force."
Generally speaking, the main element of competition on the battlefield is "force." However, later on, in order to achieve more efficient offense or defense, the concept of "strategy" emerged.
As time went on, "strategy" gradually became a necessary requirement for the weaker side. If significant breakthroughs could be made in terms of "strategy," it often resulted in a reversal of the situation.
Similarly, if "force" far exceeds the budget or tolerance of "strategy," then "strategy" can only become a self-destructive means that traps one's own side in a deadlock.
Moreover, under equal conditions and levels, in the contest between "force" and "strategy," "force" holds the upper hand. This is because "strategy" requires a considerable amount of time, energy, and various resources; it is a product that cannot match the inherent existence of "force." As the saying goes, one misstep leads to further mistakes, and one chaotic move exhausts all chances—this is precisely the point.
Bringing these insights into Peng Hao's words leads to a conclusion:
They used overwhelming force to eliminate all Armed Robbers!
In terms of weaponry and equipment, each team's combined firepower was completely on par with that of the Armed Robbers. The initial passivity was due to their adherence to the police's routine approach: if the opponent does not attack, we must not strike first.
However, for these Armed Robbers, whose equipment surpassed that of ordinary police by several levels, this mindset played right into their hands. Their initiative rendered the police's passive stance unable to reverse the situation. Without the various teams dispatched by Chen Rui, Las Vegas police would have faced significant losses.
But for these teams, it was different. While they faced strong firepower suppression from the police, their equipment level was comparable to that of Delta and SEAL teams. To them, it was merely a matter of dealing with a few guns, grenades, and tracking grenades.
Although it seemed straightforward to engage them, executing such actions was far from easy. Setting aside the immense wealth carried by those Armed Robbers that would vanish from existence along with them, political issues in most cases created situations where such actions were unfeasible. Chen Rui shot Lujie a glare, unable to tolerate the shamelessness of this guy, who was almost on par with Peng Hao.
Li Xue leaned against the window and smiled, "That last move you pulled was pretty good. The entire district's traffic is basically in chaos now, and there are still some aftereffects lingering. It's blocked again downstairs."
Hearing Li Xue's words, Chen Rui rushed to the window. Indeed, the street below was completely jammed. Looking further out, it wasn't just this stretch of road; the whole avenue and the surrounding area were experiencing severe congestion.
"What's going on?" Wang Xinzhuo noticed Chen Rui's unusual demeanor and asked.
"I don't know, but this shouldn't be a normal occurrence. Maybe you won't have to wear handcuffs and have guns pointed at your heads anymore," Chen Rui sighed. "But what exactly is happening? There's no sign of chaos, just traffic jams."
"Should we contact the police station?" Lujie slid his chair over to a desk and inquired.
Chen Rui turned to him, "Isn't your computer broken?"
"Any computer will do," Lujie replied with a smile.
"Then why aren't you hurrying up!"
Veins bulged on Chen Rui's forehead; these were all grown adults, yet they needed reminders for everything.
"I can't connect; the police station must be too busy. There are a ton of signals heading their way," Lujie's fingers flew across the keyboard, and several information modules displayed on the screen against a blue background kept flashing messages.
"Isn't there any other way?" Chen Rui frowned tightly. The situation was becoming increasingly logical; the police station was overwhelmed with signals and short-staffed because many officers had been dispatched for special missions, coinciding with a surge in emergency calls.
Lujie stared intently at the computer screen and replied, "I'm trying to bypass directly into their Control System from the backend; that way, I can connect with them."
"You could just hack in directly, no need to be so professional," Peng Hao joked.
The office door was pushed open, and Ye Han and Zhou Yan walked in. Upon seeing the other five gathered together, Zhou Yan couldn't help but smile wryly. "You all have really let me down. I was hoping you could put up more of a fight, but you've been taken down so quickly. It's truly disappointing considering the sacrifices I made."
Chen Rui looked at Zhou Yan as she entered and hurriedly asked, "What about yours?"
Zhou Yan didn't quite catch Chen Rui's vague question.
"What do you mean? What about mine? Get with it, you idiot!"
Being called an idiot was certainly unpleasant, but Chen Rui didn't take offense. Instead, he asked seriously, "What’s the script you wrote? We don’t have time!"
"The script? I refuse to tell you. What are you going to do about it? Go ahead and hit me! I can't beat her, but I can definitely take you on, you weakling," Zhou Yan teased Chen Rui, not noticing how Chen Rui's arm tensed up for a moment before relaxing again.
"I don't think we need your script anymore," Lujie said calmly while looking at the computer screen.
Beep beep beep... Chen Rui reached into his coat pocket and pulled out his phone, which displayed the word 'superior' on the screen.
"Time waits for no one," Chen Rui said with a bitter smile as he pressed the answer button.
