At such a close distance, the bulletproof vest had essentially lost its protective function. The bullets struck his body, rolling through flesh and bone. After expending the last magazine, the Elephant General finally lost control and knelt down.
The Tiger, who had been blinded by rage, quickly crouched down at the sight but was shouted at by the Elephant General, "Get out of here and complete the mission!"
That voice, though low, carried the final honor of a warrior—dying on the battlefield!
The Tiger gritted his teeth, ultimately accepting the Elephant General's command or perhaps his plea. He would lead their entire team to complete this final mission.
The corridor was littered with soldiers' corpses, spent shells, and blood. The air was thick with the acrid smell of gunpowder mixed with blood, an unpleasant and stinging scent. The blood-soaked path beneath the Tiger's feet resembled an ancient emperor's ascension route; one person sat on the throne while thousands fell.
The Tiger had also taken two bullets—one in his left shoulder earlier and another in his thigh from the last two enemies. Now he could only limp toward the Missile Silo.
Upon reaching the Silo, the Tiger began descending the stairs. The Missile was already in a state of readiness; all direct connection bridges had been retracted. The Tiger could only disrupt its normal operation by damaging the rocket's exhaust ports.
Thus, he needed to reach the very bottom of the Silo, directly facing the exhaust port.
"Boss, brothers, I'll see you soon," he muttered to himself with a faint smile as he made his way down into the depths.
"Buzz buzz buzz..." The Tactical Tablet on the table vibrated again. The Tiger quickly slapped his face to regain focus and opened the screen.
It was still those middle-aged men in Zhongshan Suits, but many of the officers were missing; those remaining mostly bore three stars on their shoulders. They all shared one common trait: they looked pleased.
"Comrade Chen Qigang! Your mission has been successfully completed! You have made tremendous contributions to the Party, the country, and the people! You have ended a war!!!" said one of the men in Zhongshan Suit at the center with a serious tone that couldn't hide his joy.
The Tiger nearly lost his footing; victory was what they had longed for, yet at this moment he felt no joy. Ignoring any decorum between ranks, he shouted into the radio with all his might, "L1! L! Cease operations! Immediately cease operations!"
All that came back from the intercom was a static noise; there were no gunshots or responses—just a continuous crackling sound echoing in his ears.
The large dog, in a fit of anger, yanked the air headset off and threw it to the ground, his furious gaze capable of killing.
“Lieutenant Chen Qigang!” A deep and authoritative voice pulled the large dog back to reality. He realized his impulsiveness and quickly stood at attention.
“I apologize for your teammates. If we had acted faster and more decisively, perhaps they wouldn’t have sacrificed themselves,” the man in the Zhongshan suit spoke slowly. Though his words were not harsh, they struck a chord in the large dog, making him want to cry.
The surrounding officers also removed their hats, silently watching the large dog. It was not just because their unit had a glorious record; it was also because all the soldiers who had sacrificed their lives in this war were there on the battlefield.
“Salute!” The group in military uniforms swiftly raised their right hands, fingertips pointing to their temples, paying tribute to all the fallen soldiers of their army and those who had participated in the war.
Unable to hold back any longer, tears streamed down the large dog's face. He sobbed like a child, his heart-wrenching cries echoing throughout the Control Center, bouncing back as if the base itself mourned for those who had died.
“They will not have sacrificed in vain. Your bravery will forever be remembered by our soldiers and our people. Future generations will surely write a glorious chapter about you,” the man in the Zhongshan suit suddenly spoke up, breaking through the sorrowful cries of someone far away on another side of Earth.
“Understood!” The large dog choked back his tears and stood tall again. He represented all heroes; he could not cry because others had yet to shed tears. He gathered all their pride! He could not cry!
The man in the Zhongshan suit stared at the large dog, sighed deeply, and solemnly said, “Lieutenant Chen Qigang, listen up!”
The large dog quickly brought his feet together and stood at attention, his head held high with pride.
“I want you to bring them all back! Do you hear me? Understood or not?” The man in the Zhongshan suit suddenly softened his tone but still carried an undeniable authority.
The large dog lifted his head even higher, adjusted his tone, and shouted loudly, “Understood!”
At the bottom of the area, Tiger found himself about ten meters away from the rocket nozzle. With a helpless smile, he pulled out a high-explosive grenade, set the fuse to its shortest duration, closed his eyes, and sighed deeply. “Damn it! They won’t even let me have peace until the end.”
Pulling the safety pin, he hurled the grenade into the tail of the rocket launcher, where it struck the exterior of the thruster. Tiger finally smiled and said, "This should do it."
The explosion rippled through the entire base of the Silo, completely deforming one leg of the rocket launcher. Shrapnel flew in all directions, and one piece pierced through Tiger's chest...

The big dog was carried out by the U.S. Military. Since the two countries had already ceased hostilities and due to their remarkable achievements, they received a considerable amount of special treatment—not in terms of interrogation, but genuine special treatment.
However, the big dog was not happy because he was responsible for six people, and he wanted to bring them home as quickly as possible.
Elephant General, Lion Brother, Tiger, White Wolf, Fox, and that Liaison Officer who should have evacuated but returned instead. From Chen Rui's demeanor, it seemed he had never intended to leave; perhaps his calculations were what made the entire operation go so smoothly. He might have anticipated everything in advance, which explained why there were so many prepared micro Missiles and rocket launchers.
Why? Why am I the one who survived? Back then, we were supposed to share life and death together. You just left me behind...
On the helicopter, the big dog leaned against the back seat. After repeated requests, the door to the rear cabin finally opened, as if they were executing a raid mission. He sat there with the others. But now, he was alone.
"You guys really make me a bit angry," he said with a bitter smile as he looked at the six bodies that had been prepared for transport beside him.
Today was supposed to be their return home. Their actions had shocked the world and reminded nations once again of the importance of espionage agencies and special forces. However, they were met by a swarm of reporters eager for news when they returned. But military airfields wouldn't allow them entry.
The helicopter took them to a military airfield where an officer adorned with stars approached and shook hands with the big dog. With a wry smile, he said, "As much as I hate to admit it, your special forces are truly formidable; you defeated our country at such a minimal cost."
The handshake suddenly stiffened. The big dog exhaled deeply and replied calmly, "I'm sorry, General; please retract that statement. We paid a heavy price! Our entire unit suffered eighty-five percent casualties! Those losses may seem trivial to you, but in my heart, they are an indelible pain."
The officer paused for a moment before releasing the big dog's hand. With a stern expression, he shouted, "Salute our terrifying enemy!"
With a swift motion, the officer and the dozen or so military officers behind him quickly raised their right hands, offering sincere respect to those who had recently been their enemies.
At the same time, the guards surrounding the airport also saluted, raising their right hands in unison. The uniforms of the Air Force fluttered lightly in the breeze, giving them an impressive appearance.
The large dog stood tall, solemnly returning the salute. In such moments, etiquette must be observed, and these individuals genuinely respected him; how could he not reciprocate with a military salute?
The engines of the domestically produced Transport Aircraft parked on the runway had already started, seemingly urging the large dog and his companions to leave this place.
Lowering his arm, he resolutely turned and strode into the cargo hold of the aircraft. The Elephant General and others were lifted aboard by U.S. Soldiers, as they were already made up and ready to return home for their commendations.
Securing the Elephant General and others with safety straps, the U.S. Soldiers smiled at the large dog before quickly exiting the plane. The rear door of the cabin slowly closed, illuminating the entire cargo hold with just six lights. The large dog glanced at the Elephant General and others before quickly climbing up the ladder into the cockpit.
Inside the cockpit, two pilots glanced at him, greeted him with smiles, and then focused on preparing for takeoff.
There was a bed specially prepared for the large dog in the cockpit, complete with a new set of military dress uniforms. The shoulder insignia had been changed to two stripes and two stars. It seemed this journey through hell had elevated him several ranks; however, he would gladly trade it all to bring back the lives of the five from Elephant General.
Lying on the bed, though small, it was quite soft. Yet he had no heart to appreciate it; his mind was filled with memories from a week ago...
Before he knew it, the large dog had fallen asleep until they reached Beijing. As the plane was about to land, he quickly changed into the prepared military dress uniform and checked himself in a mirror to ensure there were no wrinkles before letting out a sigh.
At ten o'clock Beijing time, Flight landed at China Du International Airport. Standing at the cabin door, as soon as it opened, intense sunlight hit his somber face, highlighting his heroic demeanor...
