The immediate priority was to find a way to disconnect them. The fastest method, of course, was to shut down the Connector on-site directly. However, since the management authority was not in their hands, shutting down the Connector would take time and would notify the management team in the process. During that time, no one knew what problems might arise.
Thus, this was the most efficient yet dangerous solution available. But at present, there seemed to be no better option.
Zhang Jun furrowed his brow, finally sighing with a hint of sadness on his face as he gave the order to Peng Hao, "Notify all team members to prepare for shutting down the Connector!"
"No way! That's too risky!" Chen Rui directly rejected this action, stopping Peng Hao from taking any steps.
"Then what do you suggest?" Zhang Jun shouted angrily, glancing at the representatives from various countries nearby. He whispered furiously, "You know that the longer we wait, the more dangerous it becomes. So we might as well make a decisive move and cut off the connection now!"
"Isn't there another way?" Chen Rui was also furious now, disregarding any notions of hierarchy as he grabbed Zhang Jun's tie. "Can't we send someone into the dream to inform those Special Forces?"
Zhang Jun pushed Chen Rui's hand away and smiled bitterly. "Do you think I haven't thought of that? The key issue is that control is in someone else's hands. Even if someone enters the dream, they will be under enemy surveillance. That would be real danger!"
Xiong Kai tapped on the table and looked at both Chen Rui and Zhang Jun. "The connection of Dream Participants goes directly to the mainframe before being routed to the management team. If we notify Central Hub, then those who enter the dream won't appear on the management's control page afterward. However, those who have already entered cannot be helped."
"What does that mean? Can we send someone in covertly?" Chen Rui asked in surprise, his spirits lifting.
Xiong Kai nodded and took off his glasses to stare at Chen Rui. "Theoretically, it's feasible."
"But even if it is possible, what difference does it make? The dream stream has already begun! The difficulty, danger, and fatigue levels of entering a dream are beyond what an ordinary person can handle! Who are you going to find to relay the message?" Zhang Jun took a deep breath, pinpointing the crux of the issue.
Chen Rui smiled lightly and calmly said three words: "I will do it myself!"
Peng Hao chuckled in agreement. "Indeed, if it's you, then we really don't need to worry about the Dream Stream."
Yu Mingming nodded. "This plan does carry more risk than directly interrupting the connection."
"Then it's settled!" Xiong Kai raised his hand in agreement with the plan.
"Not even you can do this! You're the team leader!" Zhang Jun grabbed Chen Rui's arm in panic, his eyes reflecting intense fear and dread.
Chen Rui coughed a couple of times and forced a smile. "As you said, I am the team leader! But you must understand, this is A Group! I am... the leader of A Group!!!"
"What are you going to do? Are you going to defy orders?" Zhang Jun looked at Chen Rui in shock, deeply disapproving and even disgusted by his choice.
"Please, Zhang, take a seat in the back and escort these unrelated personnel out. Turn off the live broadcast; contact headquarters and prepare to initiate the rescue operation!" Chen Rui issued a series of commands to Peng Hao, then slightly bowed to the representatives from various countries and the Organizer staff, smiling as he said, "I apologize, everyone. We have entered an emergency state, and it is not convenient for you to remain here. However, I assure you that we will do everything in our power to ensure the safety of all special forces members from your countries, so we hope for your cooperation."
Once Chen Rui finished speaking, a line of Execution Team members began pushing the crowd out. The crowd erupted in chaos, with some shouting curses and others expressing their anger. Yet, under the strong measures of the Execution Team members, everyone was eventually cleared from Conference Room One.
Xiong Kai began contacting headquarters through his personal terminal and soon received an email from the Dream World Project Decision-Making Body.
The Dream World Project Decision-Making Body is composed of government officials from participating countries, and its orders are the highest authority; staff working on the Dream World Project must prioritize these directives.
The email was straightforward; aside from some notes, it contained information about an online summit convened by government officials that had quickly agreed to implement this plan. However, there were two conditions:
First, once Chen Rui enters the dream, he must use every means possible to establish contact with the real world and relay information to the decision-making level in real time.
Second, according to current calculations based on Dream Stream data, there is only nine [time in the dream] of safe time within Dream Stream after Chen Rui enters. Therefore, he must safely disconnect all special forces members within one hour. If one hour passes regardless of progress made, Peng Hao and others on-site must forcibly shut down the Connector!
The information in the email clearly expressed how concerned higher-ups were about this matter. In less than a moment, they had already held a brief online meeting; those government officials certainly did not have time like ordinary citizens.
After all, this was the largest-scale incident encountered since the inception of the Dream World Project—one with unprecedented severity and threat level. This incident revealed that there were still certain vulnerabilities in connecting dreams within the Dream World Project. So even if this incident was resolved satisfactorily, the Dream World Project would face delays and significant technical revisions; if it was not perfectly resolved, it would likely be indefinitely postponed or even abandoned by higher authorities.
Years of hard work hung by a thread; the outcome now rested solely on Chen Rui's shoulders. The weight of pressure he bore could rival half of the Earth!
Chen Rui walked to the back row of the conference room, where Liu Xin from the Execution Team had already set up the Connector. Everything was ready.
Chen Rui sat on the sofa and smiled lightly at the over a hundred members of A Group. "Do you know why I asked you to stop the broadcast and send everyone else away?"
No one responded. This was a habit formed by A Group; they would not answer Chen Rui's questions unless he asked them twice, even if they already had the answers in their minds.
"Because you can go ahead and work freely later! Because I won't be able to see! So, I once again request you to ensure my safe return!" Chen Rui smiled as he brought something resembling eyes to his face and closed his eyes with a grin.
Liu Xin pressed the switch on the Connector, and as a faint blue light illuminated the room, Chen Rui slowly fell asleep, successfully entering the Dream World.
"You bunch of bastards! If anything happens to him, can you afford the responsibility?" Zhang Jun roared at Peng Hao and others who were standing dumbfounded at the workstation.
Peng Hao glanced at Zhang Jun, unfazed by this person who was several levels above him. "What could possibly happen?"
"What if? What if? What if he encounters some problems? The entire plan will collapse! Years of planning projects? How much manpower, resources, and financial investment have gone into this? Who among you can afford this responsibility?" Zhang Jun realized that getting angry was useless, so he sat down on a sofa, coldly staring at the members of A Group.
"The orders from above are here; read for yourself! If you're unhappy, go ask them directly. Don't shout at us; we’re not under your jurisdiction!" Yu Mingming snapped, raising her eyebrows as she snatched Xiong Kai's personal terminal and opened the email in front of Zhang Jun.
Zhang Jun knew that it was the orders from above that allowed this plan, likely aimed at collecting more of his data. He couldn't change this fact, but at that moment, he felt a pent-up frustration in his chest with nowhere to vent.
After thinking for a while, Zhang Jun slumped onto the sofa with a bitter smile. "I see you all have spoiled him; that's why he's acting independently now!"
Xiong Kai restarted his computer and connected directly to the Central Hub. His fingers flew over the mechanical keyboard. Hearing Zhang Jun's words, he involuntarily paused and laughed. "You're completely mistaken. We haven't interfered with anything he does; his current demeanor is exactly the same as before. And if anyone has been spoiled here, it's him spoiling us."
Xiong Kai disdainfully pointed at Peng Hao, who was lounging back in his chair with his hands behind his head and legs propped up on the computer desk, looking very comfortable.
Zhang Jun couldn't help but laugh at Peng Hao's appearance and immediately felt a wave of emotion. "It seems that indeed is the case."
“Having been in this world for a while now, I suppose the Special Forces from most other countries have already found their safe spots and jobs,” the Fox said, pouring freshly brewed coffee into a cup while smiling at Tiger.
Tiger laughed heartily. “You think too highly of them. They might have found something by now, but as for your safety? If those under the Overpass or in the sewers count, then maybe they’ve found it. Hahaha!”
After securing a safe house, Elephant General and the others went out to look for temporary jobs that didn’t require identification and paid daily. The Fox and Tiger, due to their handsome and delicate appearances respectively, were called to work short shifts at a café, and within a short time, several young girls had already asked for their contact information.
The Fox and Tiger were relatively lucky; their looks gave them an advantage that the others didn’t have. Big Dog and Lion Brother managed to land temporary sales positions at a high-end market thanks to their persuasive skills, while Elephant General and White Wolf could only find work at the cash register.
Thus, the Fox and Tiger were fortunate. Compared to the noise and exhaustion of working at the market, being suave waiters in a café was clearly more comfortable and relaxing, plus they could earn extra tips.
As Tiger and the Fox were laughing, the voice of the Beautiful Manager came from behind them. “You two…”
Startled, Tiger and the Fox nearly dropped their coffee cups on the counter. Although the Beautiful Manager was capable and attractive, she had a reputation for being strict with lazy employees. They certainly didn’t want to lose their newly found jobs so quickly.
“Do you… know him?” The Beautiful Manager entered with a mature-looking man in tow. Tiger and the Fox’s eyes widened in surprise; they never expected to run into him here.
Noticing their reaction, the Beautiful Manager smiled and nodded before addressing the man. “Alright, since you know each other, I’ll let you take him under your wing. Let them explain your basic responsibilities.”
Chen Rui smiled lightly. “Sure.”
