Chen Rui smiled at Fan Xiaohu. "Please return to your seat. All of us in Class Three are present, so your senior year theme class is about to begin."
Among the six, only Li Xue and Fan Xiaohu were unaware that their main course had already been decided, and they had no idea that it would involve developing an online game.
Snapping back to reality from his shock, Fan Xiaohu first returned to his original seat. When everyone around him moved to the front row, he hurriedly got up and joined them.
Chen Rui walked to the podium and tapped on the touchscreen computer, opening a folder to create a table, then began filling in some job titles.
"As you can see, creating an online game isn't something that can be accomplished by just a few people. A proper online game must go through two phases: development and operation."
Chen Rui pointed to the 3D projection behind him, which displayed various positions arranged in a pyramid shape, with the game Producer at the top.
"The game Producer can also be understood as the investor or developer. This position is the highest authority in the entire game project, followed by two major departments: Development and Operations."
Chen Rui indicated the second layer of the pyramid. "These two departments are primarily responsible for executing the development and operation phases. They manage numerous sub-departments beneath them."
He then pointed to the third layer of the pyramid. "The Development Department mainly consists of the Planning Team, Programming Team, and Art Team; while the Operations Department includes Marketing Team, Channel Team, and Product Team. These positions cover most of the basic framework of a Game Company, and there are countless individual units under these six teams. So, a game cannot be created by just one or two people."
"People aren't the problem; the key issue is that their professional skills may not meet the requirements, especially in the Programming and Art Teams. Most people in this school can't even do basic modeling! Let alone skeletal animations or particle effects," Fan Xiaohu raised his hand and voiced his objection.
Li Xue nodded with a smile. "Indeed, the Planning Team doesn't require much technical skill, and it's easier for the Operations side. But it becomes challenging for the Programming and Art Teams; there aren't enough programmers, and students' computer skills are lacking—that's a hard fact!"
"I've already thought of a solution for this issue. However, aside from programmers, everything else must be done by the students themselves. With so many work units involved, our class might not be able to handle it," Chen Rui shook his head with a wry smile but subtly glanced at Zhuo Rohan sitting next to Li Xue. According to what he heard from the security guard earlier, this girl likely held some position on campus and should have considerable influence.
"Our class isn't enough; but what about all the graduating students? That should be sufficient!"
As Chen Rui expected, Zhuo Rohan proactively took on this challenging yet honorable task. Still, Chen Rui pretended to be uncertain and questioned her.
"How can you ensure that all the senior students will follow your arrangements?"
Zhuo Rohan smiled lightly, "Sister is quite popular! If they want to get one of the few recommendation letters, they can only come to me."
The employment recommendation letter from Jinghua University is basically on par with the excellent employee recommendation letter from Dawn Group. Holding such a document can directly lead to employment at some well-known organizations, and it often garners attention and respect.
"She is the Student Council President and has the authority to sign recommendation letters," Li Zheng explained to Chen Rui. "Our school's system is quite relaxed, and most of the power has been handed back to the students, which has elevated the Student Council's status almost to that of the Academic Council. As for the Student Council President, that position is comparable to that of a professor or an administrative official."
Chen Rui thought for a moment; this was indeed a good approach. Granting power to students within the school allows them to treat the campus like a society, which is more beneficial for them to engage with and familiarize themselves with the real world.
"Oh, that's great! Then I’ll trouble you with this," Chen Rui smiled as he selected the third tier of the pyramid. The massive projection displayed its six components behind him.
"Now I want each of you to choose a position because you are the initiators of this project; at least one of you must take on a leadership role in a department!"
Ye Yi raised his hand with a smile, "Planning Department Head!"
Chen Rui scanned the room, "Any objections?"
No one spoke up, so Chen Rui continued, "What advantages do you have?"
"I'm an online writer with three books totaling over five million words and a total click count reaching three hundred million!" Li Chunbo chuckled, covering his mouth. "With his imagination, not going to the Planning Department would be a waste."
"Good, and you?" Chen Rui smiled at Li Chunbo. This guy was quite skilled mechanically but probably not very adept with software programming, so he expected him to choose one of the operational departments.
Li Chunbo hesitated for a moment before finally saying, "Marketing Director. I'll be responsible for surveying market conditions and providing market suggestions and real-time data. If the game is nearly ready, we will also likely handle publicity and joint operations."
He seemed to have a good grasp of what was required in marketing; there shouldn't be any major issues there.
"What about the rest? Don’t make me prompt each of you individually; just speak up if you have something in mind!" Chen Rui said with a wry smile. "I’m standing here talking until my voice is almost gone, and no one even offers me a glass of water. If you're not going to get me water, at least someone step up and speak so I can take a break."
A light laughter spread through the audience. It wasn't that Chen Rui's words were particularly funny; it was just that his demeanor genuinely made them feel it was time for action.
“Channel Director, I believe no one has more connections than I do,” Li Zheng said with a smile, but his expression suddenly changed when he noticed Li Xue sitting nearby, her face turning pale.
The others saw Li Zheng hit a wall and couldn't help but cover their mouths and laugh. Li Xue didn't mind; she smiled lightly and said, “I’m just a student, so I hope you all don’t treat me as an outsider.”
When Li Xue smiled, she looked incredibly youthful, like a college freshman, causing the other five to instinctively see her as their junior.
Coming back to reality, they exchanged glances and let out a breath. This version of Li Xue was indeed beyond their expectations, making her seem even more enigmatic.
Seeing the awkwardness of the situation, Chen Rui quickly spoke up to ease the tension. “So, you’re Li Zheng, right?”
“Yes!”
“Since you’re the one I called out as the proposer, besides being in the Channel Department, why don’t you also take on the role of Chief Producer?”
A glimmer of excitement flashed in Li Zheng’s eyes, but he immediately declined. “Forget it; that position should be labeled as Level 4 Class Three, right?”
Chen Rui shook his head with a smile. “No, no! That’s not how it works! You have to understand that Chief Producer and the production team are not the same concept. The production team can be labeled as Level 4 Class Three or even directly as Jinghua University Level 4, but the Chief Producer must be an individual!”
“Oh, is that so?” Although Li Zheng’s tone was somewhat subdued, Chen Rui could clearly detect a hint of joy in his voice. The kid wasn’t from a wealthy family but had a certain executive demeanor; being able to put his name at the top of a project while still a student was indeed an honor.
“I’ll take on the role of Chief Director,” Zhuo Rohan said with a smile. “I may not know much about game development, but I believe my position will definitely motivate the students in our department!”
“Programming Department Leader! Without question!” Fan Xiaohu laughed heartily. “But I’m just a lone ranger! I can’t handle programming for a large online game by myself.”
Finally speaking up, Li Xue silenced everyone else as they listened attentively to her words. “Then I’ll be the Head of the Art Department; I studied some modeling and design back in college.”
…Silence…
Realizing she might have said something inappropriate, Li Xue quickly feigned innocence and cuteness. “Did I say something wrong? I just mentioned that I learned some modeling and design before; is there any problem with that?”
She shamelessly removed the word "big," and of course, the others wouldn't be foolish enough to burst that bubble, allowing her to make a scene.
"Now, the positions of Operations Director and Product Director are still vacant, so let's have the remaining members of the student council take those roles," Chen Rui had just finished speaking when Zhuo Rohan interrupted.
"All members of the student council are here! No, all fourth-year members of the student council are here!" Zhuo Rohan said helplessly.
"Secretary," Ye Yi waved with a smile.
"Vice President," Fan Xiaohu said with a wry smile.
"Head of the Organization Department," Li Zheng shrugged helplessly.
"You all... this is... centralization!!!" Chen Rui exclaimed in surprise. All the important positions in the student council had been monopolized by them. Was there any fairness left in this student council?
"So, we’ll need you to also take on the roles of Operations Director and Product Director," Li Xue started clapping first, and the others joined in to welcome the birth of a new "executive" from their game company.
"Well then, let's get started," Fan Xiaohu said seriously as he looked at Chen Rui. "How are you going to help us solve the programmer issues in the Programming Department and Art Department?!"
Chen Rui smiled wryly. "Haven't you all noticed this problem before?"
"What problem?"
Chen Rui shrugged helplessly and sighed. "The main core of game production actually lies in planning and art. As long as the original artwork and script are finalized, the other staff can be hired temporarily, and their efficiency can be much higher than that of full-time employees."
