"You're awake?" Zhuo Rohan smiled as she looked at Li Li. "You clearly don't have a strong constitution, yet you insist on showing off. Although the extreme training the doctor prescribed has strengthened your body to some extent, it has also harmed your health because your foundation was already weak. And yet, you stubbornly insisted on pushing yourself."
"How long did I sleep?" Li Li propped up the pillow behind him and sat up against it, immediately feeling a throbbing pain in his head.
Zhuo Rohan touched Li Li's forehead with the back of her hand and quickly withdrew, feeling that it was burning hot. "A whole half day! Hmph! You insisted on standing there watching them all leave. Do you even remember what happened afterward?"
Li Li winced through the headache as he tried to recall. He remembered standing in the rain for at least half an hour, but after returning to the dormitory, everything became a blur.
"You collapsed right at the dorm entrance! Luckily, the helicopter hadn't left yet. Do you know how high your fever was? It took just over twenty minutes for the helicopter to reach the hospital, and by then, your temperature had shot up to forty-one degrees!" Zhuo Rohan looked at Li Li with a hint of reproach.
Li Li forced a smile, knowing he had worried her again. "Stop overthinking it; I'm fine now, aren't I?"
Zhuo Rohan sniffed and swatted his hand away. "Hmph! Who's worried about you? I'm just afraid you'd kick the bucket and leave me with no one to take care of me."
Li Li laughed heartily. "What do you want me to do about that? We're practically living together now; to outsiders, we look like a couple. If you want to get closer, then we might as well get engaged and married! Hahaha."
Zhuo Rohan felt her face flush from embarrassment at Li Li's teasing, but this time she didn't change the subject; instead, she quietly stared at him.
Li Li also chose not to divert the conversation this time. He looked at Zhuo Rohan for a long while before finally speaking up. "I think we really..."
Just then, the door to the hospital room swung open, and a man dressed in casual clothes walked in. Zhuo Rohan recognized him immediately from his face and unblemished complexion; this was Li Li's father, Li Min.
Indeed, it was Li Min—the common name of an ordinary citizen that held extraordinary significance. While "Min" is an ordinary name meaning "common people," when combined with such a rare surname in modern China, it symbolizes wealth and status.
"Dad." Li Li looked at Li Min in surprise, wondering why he had arrived so quickly; he had only just woken up.
Zhuo Rohan understood that this moment had finally come. She had always been seen as someone sent by Li Li's father in his mind, so she felt somewhat relaxed. But would he still treat her kindly once he realized she was just an outsider?
"Hello." Zhuo Rohan politely nodded at Li Min but didn't say anything more.
Li Li found Zhuo Rohan's reaction somewhat strange, and it suddenly reminded him of the first time Zhuo Rohan had met him and what she had said. But did he still need to play the role of a 'transmigrator' now?
Li Min nodded at Zhuo Rohan and then turned to Li Li, saying, "Don't wear yourself out."
Li Li understood what Li Min meant. After all, he was the only boy in the Li family, and his sister would eventually marry off. Therefore, he was the only one who could inherit Dawn Group.
"That little training is no problem, and besides, hasn't it already come to an end?" Li Li said with a smile.
Li Min nodded but didn’t look at Li Li anymore; instead, she focused on Zhuo Rohan. After a moment of silence, she spoke in an undeniable tone, "Come outside with me."
Zhuo Rohan felt almost suffocated by the pressure emanating from Li Min. She had no strength left to argue and could only follow Li Min out of the hospital room.
Once outside, Li Min immediately cooled her expression and coldly asked Zhuo Rohan, "So, who sent you?"
"Ah?!" Zhuo Rohan was clearly startled by Li Min's demeanor. It took her a moment to realize that she was being seen as a spy sent by a rival company to undermine Li Min or threaten her future.
"Mr. Li, you're overthinking this. No one sent me; I came on my own," Zhuo Rohan replied lightly. Now that she understood how Li Min viewed her, she could find a way to respond.
Li Min shrugged. "Don’t think that just because you’ve done a good job keeping things under wraps, you can fool me. You have two choices: first, take some money and leave my son alone. Second, I can help you leave."
Zhuo Rohan couldn't help but shiver slightly. She vaguely sensed what Li Min meant by helping her leave; it would either be to escape or to meet her end.
Zhuo Rohan forced a smile and said, "Well, that leaves only one choice, doesn’t it? Can we not do this? At least I helped you out significantly."
Li Min sneered. "You're talking about the recruitment of soldiers? True, in terms of results, you did help us out. But that doesn’t mean that was your original intention."
Zhuo Rohan realized she couldn't change Li Min's perception of her proactively. So she decided to turn the tables. "What would make you believe I'm here to help Li Li?"
Li Min fell silent for a moment, then smirked and said, "So what do you plan to have him do next?"
Zhuo Rohan began to recall the major events of the Dawn Group from her memory and decisively replied, "Given the current situation, those thousand or so employees are enough to revive the Dawn Group. However, to truly secure a leading position, you can't be satisfied with just this level. You must explore uncharted territories."
"What are these uncharted territories?"
Zhuo Rohan hesitated to mention military enterprises directly, as the current national policy would not allow such businesses to emerge. "It's about areas in the domestic private market that no one has ventured into yet. But as it stands, you should be able to regain your footing within a year, so you will need to expand into new fields after that, such as Defense Technology Products."
Li Min laughed heartily. "Why not just become an Arms Dealer? Girl, I didn't realize you had such ambition. This is indeed an area that no one has touched, at least no private enterprise dares to get involved."
Zhuo Rohan knew he was mocking her because such things seemed like mere fantasies now. Even looking back seven years at the Dawn Group's development felt like a legendary history destined to be recorded in an epic.
"I'm not joking; there is indeed an opportunity, and it just happens to come a year later. I know it sounds absurd, but whether or not to take this step isn't up to me." Zhuo Rohan began to act tough; after all, she had already shared the right direction with them. Whether they could achieve past glory depended on Li Li alone.
"We don't need to joke around anymore. The password for this card is 111. The amount on it can ensure your family lives comfortably for a lifetime." Li Min pulled out a dark silver Bank of China savings card from her wallet. Zhuo Rohan could even clearly see the characters on it.
Zhuo Rohan hesitated; she didn't want to leave Li Li. More importantly, she didn't know where she would go after leaving him.
Having grown up, the world felt vast—so vast that with just a turn, one could lose someone dear. Yet the world was also too small; there was no room for herself.
"I don't want to go; I don't want to leave him. I can't leave him..." Zhuo Rohan felt tears welling up but forced herself to hold them back, her eyes glistening without letting them fall.
Li Min sighed and pressed the bank card into Zhuo Rohan's hand softly. "Go on."
Zhuo Rohan suddenly burst into tears, crying heartbrokenly, even making Li Min feel a bit uncomfortable.
Li Min chose not to pay attention to Zhuo Rohan anymore and walked into the hospital room, closing the door behind her as she approached Li Li's bedside.
Li Li heard the sound of the door opening and looked eagerly towards it, only to realize that the person he was waiting for, Zhuo Rohan, had not yet come in. He turned to Li Min with a puzzled expression.
“How long have you been living together?” Li Min asked directly as he sat down on the stool beside the hospital bed.
“Two months.” Li Li had a bad feeling creeping in, but he answered his father’s question honestly.
Li Min seemed surprised and chuckled, “You two haven’t been intimate in two months? Son, you’re quite restrained; you’ve got half your father’s charm.”
Half of your charm? Did you really have a past like that, Dad?
Li Min continued, “Was the plan to hire retired soldiers proposed by her?”
Li Li's confusion deepened because he thought his father should have known about this plan from the beginning.
Seeing him silent, Li Min realized that was indeed the case and pressed on, “Then, did she also suggest those training programs?”
Li Li's anxiety was reaching a breaking point; too many questions were overwhelming him. “She made some general directional suggestions, but I decided on the specific details.”
“Oh, is that so?” Li Min replied, somewhat taken aback.
Unable to hold back any longer, Li Li finally asked, “Where is Zhuo Rohan?”
Li Min fell silent, merely watching his son quietly.
Li Li immediately sensed something was off. He hurriedly got out of bed and ran barefoot to the window, staring intently outside. “Don’t tell me you drove her away!”
His hospital room was a high-end single suite, and the window faced the main entrance of the hospital. He wanted to see if Zhuo Rohan's figure could be spotted among the crowd outside.
Li Min had no words, but Li Li could guess that it was indeed the case!
Li Li glanced at her father and shouted, "You bastard! She did nothing wrong!" After cursing, she ran out of the hospital room barefoot, disregarding everything.
Li Min sat on the stool, letting out a faint bitter smile. "What other safer methods are there?"
Zhuo Rohan walked out of the hospital in a daze, looking at the steel forest formed by the towering buildings in front of her. She had no idea where to go, merely moving forward by instinct.
"Where should I go?" Zhuo Rohan kept repeating this question in her mind, filled with sarcasm, anger, loneliness, and most of all, helplessness.
"Zhuo Rohan! Zhuo Rohan!" Slowly turning around, Zhuo Rohan heard a familiar voice calling her from behind and turned around slowly.
Li Li was frantically waving at her from the side of the road, her eyes filled with fear and helplessness. "No!"
Bang...
Zhuo Rohan felt her body suddenly become lighter, as if she had taken flight. Time seemed to stop at that moment; everything around her moved so slowly. This feeling was strangely familiar...
