The Staff of God is a relatively basic kinetic energy weapon, with its concept originating as early as 1985. Its effect is akin to a meteor striking a ground target; however, since it is man-made, both its power and precision are controllable.
Back in those years, many people, including high-ranking officials from various sectors, believed that such kinetic energy weapons were merely a fantasy. Meanwhile, the United States was ramping up its large-scale rocket launches, and major space station projects blossomed like fireworks, with as many as seven large space stations being constructed simultaneously at one point!
At this moment, Li Chunbo suddenly realized the purpose of these cosmic construction units: they were intended to provide a better platform and greater cover for the Staff of God project.
Undoubtedly, the secrecy surrounding this project was exceptionally tight. Over the past seven years, no media or government had disclosed any related information; aside from the authorities, no one in the world knew about it.
Yet this previously undisclosed technological weapon made its debut by targeting our military. Li Chunbo anxiously glanced southwest. He was unsure where this batch of Staff of God would strike, but it was directed toward cities in that region.
The nearest large cities to the southwest were Yantai and Qingdao. If considering farther locations, only Lianyungang and Shanghai could be classified as major targets. However, these cities are massive metropolises with populations in the thousands; if the Staff of God were to strike down, it would inevitably result in significant civilian casualties.
This would severely violate the rules of engagement between both sides. Therefore, it was impossible for the true targets of this batch of Staff of God to be these coastal cities; they could only be purely military zones devoid of civilians.
Southwest! Yellow Sea! North Sea Fleet!!!
Fear flickered in Li Chunbo's eyes as he immediately turned to those around him and shouted, "That's an enemy strike! Quickly notify the higher-ups!"
Fox cast a puzzled glance at Li Chunbo and stared at the meteor streaking across the sky, questioning, "That's clearly a meteor; how can it be an enemy strike? What weapon can hit from up there?"
Tiger chuckled and teased, "Exactly! What weapon can strike from outside the atmosphere?"
Li Chunbo forced a bitter smile; he had no time for their banter. He stated bluntly, "Those metal rods really are being thrown down from outside the atmosphere!"
Without waiting for their reactions, he began sprinting directly toward the Task Force Command.
The Bunker Groups were all interconnected, essentially forming a defensive position for each unit. During wartime, the passages between the units would be sealed off, but at this moment, they remained open. Li Chunbo realized that it was too late to report to the company headquarters on the First Floor; he needed to save time and quickly relay this information to Central Command, ordering the North Sea Fleet to immediately depart from the Yellow Sea, at least moving away from the Impact Center.
After Li Chunbo ran off, the remaining five were somewhat taken aback. They had not understood what this top university student meant at first, especially since they were merely temporary helpers pulled in by Chen Rui, and they hadn't even had time to review the script. Naturally, they were unaware of the current plot direction.
"Iron rod? Thrown down from outside the atmosphere? Isn't that just a man-made meteor?" Tiger said with a hint of sarcasm but suddenly froze, as he found an astonishing answer among these clues.
The group exchanged glances and, after confirming this speculation, immediately followed Li Chunbo towards the Task Force Command.
The Task Force Command was merely set up in a slightly larger bunker, adjacent to the company directly under the regiment. It seemed that even the Task Force Command could not avoid being on the front lines, which indeed confirmed Zhukov's famous saying:
War is a massive meat grinder for junior officers and soldiers. This was no joke; even Colonel Commander had to be present on the front lines, let alone the soldiers.
When a Warrant Officer burst in, the guards immediately aimed their weapons at Li Chunbo. Li Chunbo was no fool; he quickly raised his hands to indicate his identity while catching his breath and clearly stating his purpose to the Commander.
After a brief report, the Commander immediately understood the importance of this intelligence but still felt somewhat uneasy about the individual before him. After all, such crucial information was merely a guess from a trainee soldier.
As the Commander instructed the Radio Operator to prepare to contact North Sea Fleet Command as well as Division Headquarters, Military, and Tian Defense Command, he turned to Li Chunbo and asked, "How did you deduce that it was traces of kinetic energy weapons? Have you seen them before?"
Li Chunbo nearly blurted out that he had personally calculated various data for such weapons but held back. After all, not everyone could do something like that.
"I am a student at Jinghua University."
"I know that," the Commander nodded, signaling him to get to the point.
"Jinghua University is part of Dawn Group's educational sector and conducts semi-militarized education. Naturally, we are quite familiar with these matters. As for this situation, Mr. Li once personally calculated for us the entire process of kinetic energy weapon strikes; that simulation image is completely similar to what we see now." Li Chunbo confidently fabricated a lie based on his identity, knowing that the Commander wouldn't have time to verify its authenticity; after all, time was not on their side against an enemy that wouldn't wait.
The Commander furrowed his brow and immediately addressed the Radio Operators, saying, "In addition to the units just mentioned, call Central Command right now!"
The Radio Operator, sweating profusely, questioned, "Calling those units is already an escalation, and we don't even have the frequency for Central Command."
The Commander shouted angrily, "Activate the Black Gui Signal immediately!"
Gui was the tenth and final member of their unit. The Black Gui Signal indicated the last message and was the only way for units at the brigade level and above to directly contact the highest command.
The Radio Operator looked at the Commander in fear and quickly transmitted a brief signal. Soon after, an unfamiliar signal began to actively connect to their radio.
"This is Central Command! What is your situation?" A hurried voice came from the other end of the radio, clearly startled by the signal.
"I am Commander Zhang Shengli of the 19th Regiment of the Jin Defense Forces. We have urgent military intelligence that needs to be reported directly to Number One Commander! It's extremely urgent!" The Commander immediately snatched the microphone from the Radio Operator's hand and spoke seriously.
"Understood. I will connect you right away," the operator replied, not daring to delay. After all, using the Black Gui Signal without authorization carried military responsibility. Clearly, this Commander was in a hurry due to urgent intelligence requiring top-level instructions.
Before long, a deep voice came through the radio. "This is the Minister of Defense."
"Sir! According to our reconnaissance observations, enemy forces are currently using kinetic energy weapons to attack Allied Forces located in the southwest direction of our position. Their kinetic energy weapons are about to breach the atmosphere and are expected to make contact with the ground within three minutes." In such an urgent moment, Zhang Shengli couldn't care less about formalities; he shouted directly into the microphone, making a significant impact on the Minister of Defense.
The Minister of Defense asked sternly, "Is this information reliable?"
Zhang Shengli swallowed hard and glanced at Li Chunbo standing beside him before affirming, "The intelligence is reliable! Moreover, it can be observed from both Qingdao and Lianyungang directions."
The Minister of Defense quickly replied, "Please hold on; do not disconnect." He then walked away. Soon after, the silence on the radio was shattered as Central Command erupted into chaos, with various voices overlapping each other and mixed with sounds from multiple Radio Operators. Clearly, they were not the only ones reporting this matter to Central Command.
About a minute later, the voice of the Minister of Defense echoed again. "I apologize, but the Number One Commander is currently unavailable to speak with you. However, I have received real-time authorization. Now tell me, did you only report this news to us?"
Zhang Shengli let out a breath and immediately replied, "No, we reported to the North Sea Fleet Command, Division Headquarters, Military, Tian Defense Command, and other units as soon as we received the information. However, North Sea Fleet Command only managed to contact you shortly before this, so the news was conveyed to them almost simultaneously."
The Minister of Defense pressed urgently, "What was their attitude? Get me in touch with North Sea Fleet Command immediately!"
Zhang Shengli glanced at the Radio Operator beside him. The Radio Operator shook his head gravely and subtly mouthed something. Zhang Shengli furrowed his brow. "We cannot connect directly with their headquarters; it seems their communications personnel do not take our intelligence seriously."
Zhang Shengli continued to watch the Radio Operator until he nodded in confirmation. Only then did Zhang Shengli relax slightly.
"What?!" The Minister of Defense nearly shouted in fury. "They actually disregard this kind of information! I cannot continue speaking with you right now, but I hope you remain online; someone will relay messages to me."
With that, the Minister of Defense turned angrily to the other communications personnel and demanded, "Have you connected? Get me the fleet commander! Order him to immediately command the entire fleet to leave the Yellow Sea as quickly as possible!"
"We're connected; the fleet commander is on the line with you now," a communications soldier said hurriedly, projecting the North Sea Fleet's image onto the screen.
"Chao Yu! Immediately order the fleet to leave the Yellow Sea! Hurry!" The Minister of Defense shouted at Chao Yu.
Chao Yu slowly raised his head, shaking it with a bitter smile. "I'm sorry, but... I'm afraid it's really too late..."
In an instant... communication was cut off...
