Chen Rui woke up from his dream. Even though he always knew he was dreaming, as long as Li Li didn’t want him to wake up, it was difficult for him to do so on his own.
But he still woke up because Li Li needed him.
The dream was long, lasting several years, encompassing university, the military, and various aspects of society. Although it was just a dream, it felt like a vivid memory to Chen Rui, something that truly existed in his mind.
After waking up, Chen Rui realized he hadn’t even changed his clothes, as if he had just fallen asleep and was abruptly awakened.
Liang Yu smiled slightly. “Welcome back.”
Li Li was still standing in the same spot as before. It seemed that the duration of this dream had indeed been quick. Chen Rui rubbed his head. “How long has it been?”
Li Li chuckled. “According to your perception, it should be over eight years, right?”
“Don’t be ridiculous!” Chen Rui shot a glare at Li Li, his eyes devoid of the respect he had shown earlier.
Li Li glanced at the clock and said with a smile, “Three minutes and sixteen seconds. About half a minute slower than expected.”
Chen Rui was taken aback and then bitterly smiled as he rubbed the back of his head. “Is that so? But with such a large data flow, someone must have noticed it.”
Li Li walked over to Liang Yu’s side and picked up a piece of white paper from the table. On it was a clear photograph of a person. “Of course, but we already know who is responsible for you. I hear you have a good relationship with him.”
The paper was tossed in front of Chen Rui. He picked it up and saw that Xiong Kai stood by the seaside in the photo, looking quite spirited.
Chen Rui forced a smile and self-deprecatingly said, “Well, it can only be him. What do you plan to do? Go directly after him or should I handle it?”
Li Li smiled again. “If you can convince him, that would be best. However, I will also be prepared on my end because this information must be contained—at least for now.”
"Alright, I'm heading out now. Hopefully, it's not too late." Chen Rui rolled out of bed and quickly made his way outside, moving with the ease of someone who had been here countless times before.
Li Li did not follow directly but shouted from the room, "Remember, you are Chen Rui now!"
Chen Rui did not slow down and shouted back, "Spare me the nonsense! Don't assume everyone is as foolish as you!"
He arrived at the elevator on their floor and chose to exit through the same route they had entered. After all, this path was the most discreet. He had entered the Dawn Headquarters building, and if he suddenly appeared somewhere else without leaving the building, it would definitely attract attention. At this moment, there was certainly more than just Xiong Kai serving there.
Back in the lobby of Dawn Headquarters, Chen Rui addressed the Lobby Manager bluntly, "Bring my car over."
The Lobby Manager paused for a moment before realizing that Chen Rui's 'my car' referred to the company vehicle he had driven in. He immediately used his radio to instruct the parking staff to bring the car out.
Once inside the car, Chen Rui sped towards the company building. The Dawn Headquarters was not far from the office building, but it was just about to enter rush hour. If traffic increased on the road, it would be faster to run than to drive that distance.
Fortunately, he arrived at the company building before rush hour hit. He parked by the roadside and dashed into the office building, furiously pressing the elevator button as if that would make it arrive faster.
Upon reaching the thirteenth floor, Chen Rui hurried into the office, weaving past members of A Group who were preparing to leave for the day. This was characteristic of A Group; when it was time to clock out, even encountering a superior wouldn’t make them linger longer—there was no regard for 'leadership' here.
At this point, Chen Rui had no time to spare for them and quickly headed towards the innermost office in Office Hall, hoping that Xiong Kai hadn’t left early today.
Pushing open the door, he saw Xiong Kai sitting at his desk, hesitating in front of his computer screen. Chen Rui knew he had arrived just in time. Xiong Kai looked up at him with a wry smile, "I knew you would come."
Chen Rui approached Xiong Kai's desk and glanced at the page on his computer—it was a form that needed filling out. The content was complete; however, it was clear that he had yet to submit it.
Without even looking closely, Chen Rui said calmly, "Delete it and start over."
"Start over? What do you mean?" Xiong Kai replied with a bitter smile. "It seems I should have made up my mind sooner."
Chen Rui let out a cold laugh. "At this point, don't you think these words sound hypocritical? Do you really think I don't know what you're thinking right now? You are well aware of the consequences of this report being sent out, so you're scared! Just name your price."
Xiong Kai was taken aback for a moment before bursting into laughter. "No wonder you're the strategist; you leave no room for face. To be honest, I actually preferred the version of you who knew nothing, because he was more tactful. Even if he saw through things, he wouldn’t reveal it."
"You know why that is, so stop with the nonsense."
Because you already possess absolute power, you can disregard worldly rules and act without needing to consider anyone else's feelings, which is why you are so unrestrained.
Xiong Kai fell silent for a moment before calmly stating, "The right to asylum!"
Chen Rui frowned slightly; he hadn't expected Xiong Kai to understand the situation to such an extent. Given his rank, he shouldn't have been privy to such matters.
Though surprised, Chen Rui didn't think the price was too high, so he directly agreed. "Alright."
Xiong Kai shook his head and said seriously, "It's not just for me. I need the right to asylum for a group of people—most of whom are my relatives and friends—around ten in total."
Chen Rui smiled and countered, "Do you know that a ticket for Noah's Ark costs one billion euros?"
"But Adrian boarded without spending a dime."
The two exchanged glances for a long time before Chen Rui smiled slightly. "Deal. Now delete the report."
Xiong Kai also smiled faintly as he closed that page. Another identical page appeared, and the report had already been filled out.
Chen Rui looked at the screen and shook his head with a wry smile. "You old fox."
"You're too kind."
After confirming that Xiong Kai had turned against them, Chen Rui made a call to Li Li from Xiong Kai's office, but he didn't use his own phone; instead, he used the internet phone on the computer.
"The food has been bought, all from the deli, so there's no need to go home and trouble ourselves," Chen Rui communicated the situation to Li Li in code.
"That's good; it saves me from having to cook," Li Li replied with a smile, clearly pleased at not having to take action herself. After all, eliminating a key figure at such a time could easily attract unwanted attention.
Once Xiong Kai was dealt with, Chen Rui immediately drove back to the school. Although it seemed like he had only left for a short while, he felt as if he hadn't returned in years, unconsciously putting more effort into his steps.
Upon returning to the school, Chen Rui hurriedly went to the top floor of the dormitory to check on Fan Xiaohu's situation. From Gao Zhijie, he learned that the assessment was progressing quickly and was expected to be completed by tomorrow.
After confirming Fan Xiaohu's status, Chen Rui rushed to the top floor of the office building to check on Ye Yi. He found out that Ye Yi had entered the dream later than Fan Xiaohu but had already completed the assessment and had just exited the office building.
"How did you finish so quickly?" Chen Rui asked Ruan Yu in confusion. "It's only been a short time; even with dream acceleration, that's too fast."
Ruan Yu sighed and pointed at Zhuo Rohan, who was sitting nearby. "You can ask her yourself. She forcibly accelerated the process, but it was indeed quite interesting."
Chen Rui didn't quite understand Ruan Yu's remark about 'forcibly accelerating' and was about to ask Zhuo Rohan directly when he accidentally startled her as he approached. At that moment, Zhuo Rohan's fair face was clearly flushed with a rosy hue, making her look exceptionally beautiful.
Seeing Zhuo Rohan like this, Chen Rui immediately understood what 'forcibly accelerating' meant. At the same time, he couldn't help but admire Ye Yi's boldness; looking at Zhuo Rohan's expression, it seemed she might be getting carried away.
Clearing his throat twice, Chen Rui said to Zhuo Rohan, "Could you please take me to Li Zheng's dormitory?"
Zhuo Rohan patted her flushed cheeks and looked at Chen Rui. "Are we continuing right away? Don't they need any rest?"
Ruan Yu also expressed his displeasure. "What's going on? Are they doing this on purpose to mess with us?"
Chen Rui shook his head and replied firmly, "Time is running out; we need to speed things up. This is likely our last mission."
Zhuo Rohan did not hear what Chen Rui said, but Ruan Yu immediately took it seriously, after all, he was also in the know. "Is the information reliable?"
"Reliable," Chen Rui nodded solemnly.
"Damn! Then it looks like we won't be able to rest for the next few months," Ruan Yu sighed and smiled helplessly.
Zhuo Rohan took Chen Rui to Li Zheng's dormitory. There weren't many students at Jinghua University, but the campus was vast, and the dormitories were naturally quite unique.
Aside from the staff dormitory building, office building, and teaching building, the rest of the campus consisted mainly of low-rise residential buildings or villas, which were actually student accommodations.
This wasn't to showcase the school's financial power; after all, these students came from wealthy families. This arrangement was simply to make better use of the beautiful scenery and provide students with a more enjoyable university life.
Li Zheng's residence was in a European-style two-story private villa with a large courtyard that included a swimming pool of about fifty square meters.
Looking at the villa before him, Chen Rui chuckled bitterly. "He lives here alone? Don't tell me your whole class is like this!"
Zhuo Rohan nodded. "That's indeed the case. The school allocates villas and residential buildings based on class size. Since our class is small, we naturally get to live in nicer places."
Chen Rui looked at the rows of villas and residential buildings among the cherry blossom trees and sighed. If he had such conditions back then, he probably wouldn't have chosen to partner with Li Li.
