"Hey, you don't look too old. You must have graduated not long ago. Which company are you working for in Shanghai?" Shi Wannian asked.
"I graduated last year, and now I'm a freelancer," Jiang Chen replied casually.
"Freelancer? Heh, that means you don't have a job. I'm an executive at Remote Group, and we recently have a project that needs a site clerk. How about I introduce you? The salary isn't much, but it's over ten thousand a month," Shi Wannian said condescendingly.
Jiang Chen remained silent, finding it somewhat amusing that the chairman of a group company would suggest he take on the role of a site clerk.
Noticing Jiang Chen's silence, Sun Weiwu chimed in, "Hey, you should hurry up and accept. It's not easy to get into Remote Group. If it weren't for Ye Ming's connections, Senior Shi wouldn't even consider giving you this opportunity."
"Weiwu, Jiang Chen isn't looking for a job. Ye Ming said he's a Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine," Zhao Wenjing quickly interjected.
"A Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine?" Shi Wannian and Sun Weiwu exchanged surprised glances, looking over at Jiang Chen again. He certainly didn't appear to be a Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Zhao Wenjing was also skeptical but recalled that Ye Ming had indeed said so earlier. Now she wanted to introduce Ye Ming to Shi Wannian without bringing up her illness.
Ye Ming nodded slightly; someone who could cure her illness was even more impressive than a Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
"How can I believe that? He's so young; he probably doesn't have much medical experience. How could he be called a master?" Shi Wannian said incredulously, then turned to Jiang Chen and asked, "They say you're a Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Is that true?"
"No," Jiang Chen replied calmly.
"I knew it! How could he possibly be a master? Ye Ming, Wenjing, stop speaking for him. It seems he has some self-awareness. Jiang Chen, you should thank Senior Shi quickly; he's offering to help you find a job—consider yourself lucky," Sun Weiwu said seriously.
"Although I'm not a Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine, I'm more capable than any master. I don't need money and certainly don't need to find a job," Jiang Chen chuckled lightly.
"You really don't know how to read the room. This isn't the time for pride. I'm not someone who helps just anyone," Shi Wannian thought that Jiang Chen should be grateful for his willingness to help.
"Senior Shi, Jiang Chen really doesn't need your help. Can we drop this topic?" Ye Ming said in a low voice, feeling guilty towards Jiang Chen.
"Alright, alright. Let's not talk about it anymore." Seeing Ye Ming's gloomy expression, Shi Wannian reluctantly conceded.
After about ten minutes, Jiang Chen and the others arrived at an ancient alleyway filled with the charm of old Shanghai.
Greenery Pavilion was a restaurant converted from an old house; only the wealthy could afford to dine here in Shanghai.
As Shi Wannian got out of the car at the entrance, a valet came to assist with parking. After adjusting his suit, he led Jiang Chen and the others inside with an air of confidence.
Zhao Wenjing and Sun Weiwu looked around in awe; even they felt they weren't qualified to dine here. After all, just one meal could easily cost over ten thousand yuan—something even locals rarely splurged on.
Ye Ming came from a wealthy family and had been to places like Greenery Pavilion in Gusu before, so she wasn't surprised.
Today she had planned to treat Jiang Chen to dinner, but now it was turning into Shi Wannian's treat, which made her feel uncomfortable; she didn't like being indebted to others.
