Wei Chen stared in shock, his mouth agape. Afraid she would get lost, he grabbed her hand. Was this what they called holding her hand?
To lower his voice, he leaned closer to her ear. Was this what they called whispering sweet nothings?
Well, both actions had their reasons. But pushing her with his backside? Damn it, if he was going to push, shouldn’t it be from the front?
“Beautiful lady, when did I ever push you with my backside?” Wei Chen said with a mournful expression. He just couldn’t get angry at Mu Qingyan; it was always so frustrating.
Mu Qingyan huffed, “Just now, you were sticking your backside into the hole to look inside, and your backside was right against me. When I tried to move away, you still held onto my hand…”
Oh my goodness, did that really count?
Wei Chen was almost in tears. He took off his backpack and ignored Mu Qingyan as he rummaged through his things. Mu Qingyan pouted and shot him an angry glance but could only feel wronged as she pulled out the Wind Dust Beans she had prepared.
Seeing Mu Qingyan’s actions, Wei Chen couldn’t help but sigh inwardly: “No wonder she’s Musa’s sister; her temper is truly strange. But at least she knows how to keep things in check and didn’t cause any trouble.”
“Give me your stuff; I’ll give it a try,” Wei Chen said softly.
Mu Qingyan pouted and handed the Wind Dust Beans to Wei Chen. He took the box and brought it to his nose, inhaling a fragrant aroma. “It smells nice; I can’t help but want to eat one.”
“The Soul Dissolution Powder is inside; it won’t kill you,” Mu Qingyan replied irritably.
“Soul Dissolution Powder? Now that’s something good,” Wei Chen said as he closed the box and leaned out of the hole. The Flamingo was still lying on the ground, making faint chirping sounds. “Could it be hungry?”
Wei Chen suddenly tossed the box with all his might. In an instant, it covered a hundred meters and smashed against the wall next to the Flamingo, shattering into pieces and scattering Wind Dust Beans everywhere.
The Flamingo squawked a few times, flapping its wings in an attempt to take off, but after several failed attempts, it could only chirp helplessly as it landed back in its original spot.
"Is it injured?" Mu Qingyan also noticed the Flamingo's reaction and immediately smiled brightly. "Quickly throw your things over! It can't fly anymore; let's beat it half to death first, then we can go in and finish it off!"
Wei Chen nodded, picking up two small Condensation Pearls the size of fingernails. Infusing them with some Soul Power, he waved his hand and sent them flying.
The two Condensation Pearls floated in the middle of the cave, positioned against the ceiling, and water droplets began to fall like a torrential rain. The Flamingo, receiving the "nourishment" from the droplets, emitted steam from its body. Each drop caused it pain. It screeched in agony, flapping its wings frantically but unable to lift off, looking extremely miserable.
Wei Chen felt a surge of joy as he poured more medicinal powder into the cave. The powder dissolved upon contact with water, mixing with the droplets that struck the Flamingo, but it had no effect of inducing faintness.
Next, Exploding Water Pearls were launched one after another, landing on the Flamingo. The screeching echoed loudly as each Condensation Pearl exploded upon hitting its body. Dozens of Condensation Pearls combined created a pool of water in the depths of the cave, submerging half of the Flamingo's body.
Inside the cave, droplets continued to fall steadily, and steam rose to fill the entrance. The water where the Flamingo was located gradually heated up, bubbling and reaching a boiling point.
"The Dust Bomb is probably useless now; we have too much stuff prepared," Wei Chen said as he picked up a Dust Bomb. He turned his head to see Mu Qingyan gazing at him with great eagerness. He handed her the Dust Bomb and said, "You can use it; just throw it deeper inside."
Mu Qingyan immediately took action, flicking her delicate fingers as Dust Bombs shot into the cave like a barrage.
"This girl has much better control over Soul Power than I do," Wei Chen marveled at Mu Qingyan. He had thought his control was quite refined, but Mu Qingyan surpassed him!
No wonder she came from the Ancient Spirit Academy!
The effect of the Dust Bomb was indeed minimal; for some reason, the Flamingo showed no signs of resistance at all, simply lying there enduring the attacks while the smoke from the Dust Bombs went to waste.
Finally, Wei Chen unfurled a fishing net and grinned wickedly. "It can't escape now; prepare to die."
The fishing net measured two meters in both length and width, more than enough to cover the Flamingo. Since the entrance was too narrow to throw it in directly, Wei Chen instructed Mu Qingyan to wait outside while he sprang into action like a leopard.
When he reached within ten meters of the Flamingo, Wei Chen spread out the fishing net and aimed it directly at the Flamingo. Submerged in the pool of water and barely alive, it weakly called out without noticing the net approaching.
As the net descended onto the Flamingo, Wei Chen unleashed his Silent Extinction Finger, delivering ten powerful strikes against its body.
However, the Sixth-Rank Soul Skill could no longer completely penetrate the body of the Sixth-Rank High-Level Beast, leaving ten bloody holes on the Flamingo.
The Flamingo screeched wildly and struggled. Wei Chen quickly shot out of the cave. There was no need to engage in a death struggle with the Flamingo; the more it fought, the tighter the fishing net would constrict, and the deadly poison above would seep into its body through the wounds.
“Did it work?” Mu Qingyan asked nervously.
“Yeah, it’s fine now. If we’re lucky, there’s nothing to worry about. The Flamingo seems to be in terrible condition; it can’t even fly. If it were at full strength, it wouldn’t be this easy,” Wei Chen explained.
Mu Qingyan sniffed and said proudly, “Of course, being with me brings good luck.”
“Ha ha, then I’ll thank you in advance. After we succeed, I’ll roast some Flamingo meat for you,” Wei Chen replied with a smile.
Mu Qingyan's face instantly lit up with joy as she eagerly nodded, “Great! Bird meat should taste better than Bear Meat.”
Wei Chen rolled his eyes and disdainfully glanced at Mu Qingyan. “Forget it; Bear Meat is definitely better. Ordinary bird meat is tasty, but Flamingo meat contains a strong fiery essence. If you’re not afraid of your skin becoming rough and yellow after eating it, I can roast some for you to try.”
“I don’t want that,” Mu Qingyan huffed.
After a while, the Flamingo’s screeching gradually ceased, and the effects of the Condensation Pearl in the cave faded away.
“Let’s go in and take a look. Be careful; if the Flamingo isn’t dead and fights back desperately, it could be dangerous,” Wei Chen said as he stepped into the cave first. Mu Qingyan followed behind him; the ground was slippery. She bit her lip and looked at Wei Chen with a strange expression. After hesitating for a moment, she said, “Hey, hold my hand!”
Wei Chen turned back to look at Mu Qingyan with amusement. He couldn’t understand what this quirky beauty was thinking—one moment she wanted him to take advantage of her, and the next she wanted him to hold her hand…
“Forget it; I won’t discourage her anymore. I really don’t know what kind of environment she grew up in. She and her brother Musa are completely opposite—one is lewd to the extreme while the other is pure as white paper.”
Taking Mu Qingyan's hand, Wei Chen slowly walked deeper into the cave.
A distance of a hundred meters wouldn’t take long no matter how slow they went.
At the bottom of the cave, the Flamingo was mostly submerged in the pool, with only its back and head visible. In reality, the pool was deep enough to drown the entire Flamingo, but its thick feathers allowed it to float on the surface.
"Hey, it's still alive?" Wei Chen noticed that the Flamingo's eyes were still open, occasionally blinking, looking quite pitiful.
"Yeah, why isn't it dead yet? Its gaze seems filled with unwillingness," Mu Qingyan said as she drew her longsword, its cold gleam shining brightly.
"It ended up in this state inexplicably; of course, it wouldn't be willing. Strong teams from Eryuan City have tried to kill it before but never managed to catch it," Wei Chen chuckled, his eyes drifting toward the sword in Mu Qingyan's hand.
It was a slender sword, its blade as thin as a cicada's wing, only half an inch wide but several inches longer than an ordinary sword.
The sword had a white ice color, emanating a chill that seemed to lower the temperature of the entire area.
"The Ancient Spirit Academy is truly remarkable; such a treasure sword is rarely seen elsewhere. Even Fuyuan Trading Company probably doesn't have swords of this caliber," Wei Chen muttered to himself.
Noticing Wei Chen staring at her sword, Mu Qingyan proudly waved it a few times, her dimples showing as her big eyes squinted with a smile. "This sword of mine is an Eighth Rank treasure sword named Xuanbing, famous within the Ancient Spirit Academy. If it weren't for my excellent resources, my grandfather wouldn't have given me this sword."
"Alright then, here's your chance to shine—go ahead and kill this Flamingo," Wei Chen said, feeling both envious and helpless. He couldn't bring himself to feel any resentment toward Mu Qingyan's proud display; if anyone else had boasted like that, he would have looked down on them.
"I won't do it; it's about to die anyway. My grandfather taught me not to bully the weak. It's weak now, so you do it," Mu Qingyan reasoned convincingly, leaving Wei Chen unable to refute her.
Wei Chen unleashed ten streams of finger force directly at the Flamingo's head. The Flamingo's skull exploded into a large hole, brain matter splattering out—it was dead beyond recovery.
Throughout it all, it had never fought back.
"What happened to it? Did it fight someone before us?" Mu Qingyan asked.
"Who knows? I'm going to start condensing my Martial Soul now. If you need anything, go find it yourself," Wei Chen said as he found a spot to sit cross-legged. The moment after a beast's death was when its Soul Power was most abundant—an ideal time for condensing Beast Soul.
Soon enough, Wei Chen entered a focused state as the Soul Power generated by the Flamingo flowed into him, settling within his core.
Mu Qingyan searched the cave, but after a moment, she found nothing.
Seeing Wei Chen focused on gathering his Power Soul, Mu Qingyan wisely sat to the side, watching him in a daze.
"It's really strange. I have no wariness towards this Fellow at all. Back at the Ancient Spirit Academy, there were so many people pursuing me, and I felt nothing but disgust for them. Yet with him, I inexplicably feel a sense of closeness."
As Mu Qingyan pondered this, her Essence Martial Soul began to stir within her. To her surprise, her Essence Martial Soul manifested as a Blood Lotus petal!
The aura emanating from it was strikingly similar to Wei Chen's Black Demon Lotus!
Noticing the change within her, Mu Qingyan's mind was suddenly flooded with memories from six years ago.
It was a night in the dead of winter, with stars twinkling and a full moon hanging high in the sky. Above, an enormous and eerie Blood Lotus appeared, rivaling the size of the galaxy.
A terrifying pressure enveloped the entire continent; the Blood Lotus slowly descended, its overwhelming force akin to that of death itself! Humans screamed and fled in all directions, while ferocious beasts howled in despair. But no matter where they ran, the Blood Lotus loomed over them.
At that moment, a giant clad in Golden Battle Armor suddenly appeared, wielding a Battle Axe. With a fierce shout, he swung down hard at the Blood Lotus!
The stars seemed to split apart under that axe strike, and the Blood Lotus shattered into countless pieces that vanished into the night sky.
One petal floated down and landed before eleven-year-old Mu Qingyan.
