"Don't look, I told you, I'm not short on money," Jiang Chen said with a smile.
Zhao Wenjing was taken aback, her face filled with doubt. Could it be that this Jiang Chen was really a Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine and quite wealthy? Shouldn't she be skeptical?
Seeing Jiang Chen's generosity, Shi Wannian couldn't help but chuckle. "How about ordering a bottle of '82 Lafite?" he suggested with a grin.
"Then let's get a bottle," Jiang Chen replied casually.
Everyone was shocked. An '82 Lafite could sell for nearly a hundred thousand yuan per bottle on the market. To be honest, such an expensive wine was beyond the reach of Zhao Wenjing and Sun Weiwu, and even Shi Wannian usually couldn't afford it. With an annual salary of a million, he could only buy a little over ten bottles of Lafite.
Shi Wannian had merely been joking, never expecting Jiang Chen to actually go through with it. He paused for a moment before laughing at the waiter, "Did you hear that? This handsome guy wants to open an '82 Lafite. Let's start with some Lafite for us to taste."
Initially, Shi Wannian thought that this meal would cost around a hundred thousand yuan, enough to bankrupt Jiang Chen. However, Jiang Chen had pushed the price up to about three hundred thousand yuan.
A meal costing over three hundred thousand was painful even for someone as wealthy as Shi Wannian. He was curious to see how Jiang Chen would handle things if he couldn't pay the bill later.
Zhao Wenjing and Sun Weiwu were dumbfounded, completely unprepared for Jiang Chen's extravagance. Yet they felt uneasy; Jiang Chen didn't seem like a wealthy person—was he planning to dine and dash? If he couldn't pay later, would they have to foot the bill?
"Why don't we just eat something light and skip the Lafite?" Zhao Wenjing suggested anxiously.
They felt like they were in a precarious position; if Jiang Chen really couldn't pay, there wasn't much they could do about it.
Shi Wannian had similar thoughts but had his own agenda. It would be better if Jiang Chen couldn't pay; then Ye Ming would surely come begging him for help. As long as Ye Ming approached him first, things would be easier.
"This handsome guy is treating us; how could we not give him face? Waiter, let's go with what this gentleman wants—bring out the wine and dishes," Shi Wannian said with a smile.
The waiter quickly brought out the '82 Lafite. With five people at the table, one bottle was hardly enough to go around.
If Shi Wannian were hosting this meal, Zhao Wenjing and Sun Weiwu would have been excitedly taking photos and posting them online. But since it was Jiang Chen treating them, they felt anxious and found it hard to enjoy their meal.
Exquisite dishes came one after another, but Zhao Wenjing and Sun Weiwu wore complex expressions.
"Dig in," Jiang Chen said as he picked up his chopsticks and started eating. However, Zhao Wenjing and Sun Weiwu hesitated to join him, fearing that if they ate now, they might end up having to pay later.
Even when Jiang Chen encouraged them to eat, they remained reluctant. They thought that as long as they didn't eat, they wouldn't be implicated when it came time to settle the bill.
Seeing that Zhao Wenjing and Sun Weiwu weren't eating, Jiang Chen decided not to press them further and continued enjoying his meal alone.
To be fair, the restaurant run by Jiang Luyi had excellent food; however, the portions were too small and not enough to satisfy Jiang Chen's appetite.
"This serving of caviar is too small. Bring me five more."
"And this Kobe Beef, let's have five more of those as well."
"I'll take five more of the Truffle too. We need to make sure everyone gets a portion."
"By the way, the Fruit Platter at your restaurant is quite lacking. There’s only one grape on it. How are we supposed to share that? Just bring over a whole bunch; the grapes taste good."
