While eating, Jiang Chen remarked, especially when he reached the Fruit Platter. He found it a bit ridiculous that there were only a few slices of cantaloupe and just one grape. The portion size made him unable to hold back his complaints.
Upon hearing Jiang Chen's words, not only were Zhao Wenjing and Sun Weiwu stunned, but even the waiter nearby was left speechless.
"Sir, this is not an ordinary grape; it's the Roman Ruby Grapes from the Island Nation. A single bunch costs twenty thousand. Are you sure you want it?" The waiter was taken aback.
"Of course! If there's enough, let's have one bunch for each of us," Jiang Chen replied.
"Sir, I'm sorry, but we only have one bunch left in the restaurant," the waiter said in astonishment. He had worked as a waiter here for several years and had never encountered someone so extravagant. Moreover, Jiang Chen's attire was quite ordinary; if it weren't for Shi Wannian and others who looked wealthy accompanying him, he wouldn't have imagined ordering so many dishes.
However, he never expected Jiang Chen to make such a bold request. With the current drinks and food costs already at three hundred thousand, adding more would likely push it over a million. The waiter felt hesitant to add anything further.
Shi Wannian was also dumbfounded. Jiang Chen was spending money like it was nothing. If he continued at this rate, even a million wouldn't be enough. Although Shi Wannian had some interest in Ye Ming, he couldn't justify spending that much on a single meal.
Ye Ming understood that Jiang Chen had connections and might not care about money, but there was no need to spend it so freely.
"Jiang Chen, don’t order anymore; it’s unnecessary," Ye Ming advised.
"It’s fine. Since I’m treating you and your friends to a meal, we should eat well. Just follow my lead," Jiang Chen insisted.
"Come on, are you worried I can’t pay the bill?" Seeing the waiter standing still, Jiang Chen urged him on.
"Are you out of your mind? Do you think if you can’t pay the bill we will cover for you? You’re mistaken! We didn’t eat any of the dishes you ordered earlier, and we haven’t even touched this Lafite Wine. So this meal has nothing to do with us," Shi Wannian couldn’t help but raise his voice.
He never imagined Jiang Chen would play it this way. If it were just tens of thousands, Ye Ming could persuade him to cover it, but with Jiang Chen's spending habits threatening to exceed a million, Shi Wannian couldn’t justify spending that much on a meal—even with an annual salary of a million or even ten million.
He suspected that Jiang Chen was doing this on purpose; he wouldn’t accompany Jiang Chen in such reckless behavior.
"I said I’ll pay," Jiang Chen stated calmly.
"Hmph! What are you pretending for? We’re not playing along anymore; you can eat here by yourself while we go sit at another table," Shi Wannian declared as he stood up and moved to a nearby table.
"You all come over; I’ll treat you," Shi Wannian said to Zhao Wenjing and Sun Weiwu.
Zhao Wenjing and Sun Weiwu sighed in relief and hurried over to Shi Wannian's table. Although Jiang Chen had ordered so many good dishes, they didn’t dare eat any of it.
"What are you all doing?" Ye Ming asked helplessly upon seeing this.
"Ye Ming, he’s treating us, but we don’t deserve such luxury," Zhao Wenjing replied.
"Alright then." Ye Ming didn’t say much more; this arrangement was actually better since there was no need for Jiang Chen to treat them.
"Jiang Chen, since they’re not eating here anymore, let’s not order more dishes," Ye Ming suggested.
"In that case, we won’t add anything else," Jiang Chen nodded with a hint of amusement. These people were quite interesting; they wouldn’t eat even when invited and were saving him money instead.
