In the western woods of Shining Gold Town, Bright Sunshine filtered through the sparse leaves, creating patches of light on the ground.
This was the edge of Moonlight Forest, long overexploited by humans, where even Forest Wolves and Forest Bears rarely roamed. Only a few rabbits and Deer could be found here.
"The foundation of a Spirit Master lies in knowledge about living beings, which means you must personally study various creatures. Generally speaking, the rarer the creature, the greater its research value, as it likely contains more powerful Inheritance Factors."
The two walked side by side through the forest. The girl in a green cotton dress chewed on a piece of braised beef while explaining.
After spending some time together, Xiar had figured out her preferences; she loved Moonlight Cakes and braised beef. Therefore, every time he sought her advice, he would bribe her in advance.
It worked remarkably well; she was somewhat reluctant to refuse food, and each time she would earnestly explain things to him, greatly benefiting his understanding.
She wiped her mouth and casually pointed to a distant bush. "Do you see that Gray Rabbit? Have your fox catch it."
"Go, Firefly!"
Xiar immediately commanded his white fox to attack. Firefly leaped from his shoulder, almost transforming into a White Shadow as it dashed toward the exposed rabbit.

The wild rabbit was startled and sprang into action with its strong hind legs, attempting to leap into the bush for cover. However, the white fox was faster; just as the rabbit jumped in, Firefly reached its side and bit down on its neck.
The rabbit struggled against capture, kicking fiercely at the white fox with its hind legs. Yet, Firefly was incredibly agile, easily dodging the attacks and slamming the rabbit down onto the ground, stunning it.
Now no longer struggling, the Gray Rabbit was carried back to Xiar and his companion by Firefly, who let out a triumphant call.
"Meow!"
"Well done," Xiar said as he bent down to pat its head in reward.
Then the White Fox climbed up his leg to his shoulder, sitting there like a child.
"Didn't I teach you how to put away your totem? Why haven't I seen you do it? And your totem seems a bit strange," Rice Cake said, looking at the White Fox with confusion as he took a green handkerchief from his pocket to wipe his hands.
"I haven't learned it yet, and I feel like the totem should stay with me," Xiar replied with an awkward smile.
In reality, the White Fox Fire was a peculiar technique that Bruce had used to forcibly transform into a totem. The Spirit Technique taught by the other party couldn't actually put it away; it could only be carried around like a pet.
"Suit yourself." The other person didn't say much more and reached out to grab the long ears of a rabbit, lifting it up. "This is just an ordinary rabbit, commonly found everywhere. Their Evolution has mostly stabilized, and they have little potential for development."

Xiar listened attentively to her explanation. Despite her young age, she had already been a Spirit Master for over a year.
Learning from someone more skilled was nothing to be ashamed of.
As they walked and captured prey for analysis, Xiar was able to personally verify the knowledge he had learned earlier.
"Alright, that's enough explanation for today; we'll continue tomorrow." The girl rolled her eyes, somewhat impatient because Xiar had asked so many questions along the way that her mouth felt dry.
"Don't forget your promise; have your chef make me another serving of that beef stew."
"No problem. I've already sent someone to Storm Harbor to buy the ingredients," Xiar replied with a smile and a nod. He knew that if he wanted her to teach him diligently, he had to do everything possible to meet her requests.
Though he agreed easily, the expenses were not insignificant.
The last meal the other party had was Fanged Cattle from the Rhein Grassland, a luxury reserved for nobles. This peculiar beast fed on meat, and a single pound of its flesh could only be purchased with gold coins, making it unaffordable for ordinary people.
Moreover, it was available in limited supply; if you arrived late, you wouldn't be able to buy any. That was why he had sent someone ahead to stake out and wait for the goods to arrive.
After parting ways with the other party, Xiar looked around. "Now, it's time to go treasure hunting."
He hadn't forgotten that cheap teacher who, before dying, had told him about the Experimental Base located in the wilderness, trying to get him to promise to find and take care of their lost child.
These preparations had allowed him to barely scratch the surface of learning the most basic Spirit Technique and gain a profound understanding of Firefly's abilities.

The Moonlight Fox had somewhat low defense, but the Guardian Spirit Light it provided could just barely withstand Marcus's attacks. If he crafted one or two more Auxiliary Totems, then Marcus wouldn't be able to harm him at all!
Half an hour later, Xiar followed the river westward until he arrived at a dense thicket of dark red trees.
He stopped and surveyed the area. At the end of his line of sight stood a tree as thick as a bowl, splitting into two trunks below like human thighs.
"At a bend by the river, there's a patch of low red trees. The entrance to the laboratory is beneath one of those Y-shaped trees; this must be it."
Xiar approached and quickly spotted an entrance hidden beneath dense vines. However, he didn't recklessly walk in; instead, he threw a rabbit into the area.
Whoosh!
As the wild rabbit fell onto those strange Gray Vines, they suddenly came alive like snakes, wrapping around the rabbit and binding it tightly before piercing deep into its body, causing it to shrink visibly.
"Hah! As expected, something sinister is at play. This seems to be a First Level Plant Totem!" A cold smile spread across Xiar's face.
Fortunately, he had been cautious; otherwise, he would have ended up as fertilizer after being drained of blood.
The Main Totem would perish with its master, but the Auxiliary Totem, especially those of the Plant System, would not die easily.
These creatures had no consciousness at all; even if the Spirit Master died, it merely allowed them to regain their freedom. Thus, they were often used to set traps or guard homes.
With his current strength, he was completely unable to deal with such monsters.
However, even transformed into a totem, the flames were an enemy that could not be defended against.
Xiar began to chop down dead branches with the sword he carried and moved withered vines and leaves from a distance to encircle the cluster of totem vines.
Then he took out a Source Crystal and skillfully waved it with both hands, causing a flame to erupt before him.
Boom!
The Blazing Flames quickly ignited, causing the vines to emit sharp squeals. However, rooted in place, they could not escape and turned to ash in the fire!

Xiar was astonished to see a gray light point flying out from the ashes. Then the Evolution Modulator panel appeared, and the Evolution Points value increased by 0.5!
"So that's how Evolution Points are obtained!"
