The day of action had arrived. Little Jiu, due to her mobility issues, was strapped to Zhou Instructor's front with a harness. The female officer helped Jiang Shiyan put on a bulletproof vest, which was then covered by an inconspicuous outer coat.
At this moment, the police had confirmed that the traffickers were indeed at that location. Initially, they hadn't planned to bring Jiang Shiyan along, but her ability to communicate with animals was exactly what the operation required.
Soon, they found a hidden spot to set up camp. While the other officers were busy preparing, Jiang Shiyan mimicked bird calls, and before long, two small birds were drawn to her.
"Are you human? How can you mimic our sounds?" one of the birds chirped.
Jiang Shiyan gently stroked their heads. "Can you do me a favor?"
She then pulled out a photo she had borrowed from the police. "Can you help me see how many people are in the yard and where they might be hiding? Then come back and tell me, okay?"
The two little birds nuzzled her palm before flapping their wings and flying away.
As Jiang Shiyan looked up, she caught sight of a pair of sharp eyes watching her intently, making her feel inexplicably guilty.
"Captain Yan, is there something wrong?" Yan Anting noticed Jiang Shiyan's guilty expression, and his professional instincts raised some suspicion about her.
"Miss Jiang, don't wander off. The environment is complicated and it's easy to get lost." With that, he turned and strode back into the crowd.
Jiang Shiyan let out a deep breath and crouched down, sneaking toward the edge.
Yan Anting happened to glance back at that moment and called over the female officer who had been keeping an eye on Jiang Shiyan. "Xiao Zhu, go watch over Jiang Shiyan!"
Xiao Zhu nodded and immediately followed. Soon after, she saw Jiang Shiyan diving into the bushes and moments later emerged with two snakes in hand.
Xiao Zhu gasped and quickly covered her mouth. Several officers rushed over, guns drawn and aimed at Jiang Shiyan, who froze in place.
"I—I didn't do anything," she stammered.
Yan Anting quickly approached to question the situation. Xiao Zhu trembled as she pointed at the snakes in Jiang Shiyan's hands; they were coiled around her arms, staring intently at the group.
Jiang Shiyan was on the verge of tears. "I just found a snake nest!"
Seeing the misunderstanding unfold, Yan Anting instructed her teammates to lower their weapons.
"Miss Jiang, what are you doing going after a snake's nest at this time?"
"I wanted them to help; they're very clever and can assist in finding traps."
However, the people present hardly believed her words and could not explain why the snakes were behaving so calmly.
Little Jiu limped over to Jiang Shiyan, then turned to Yan Anting and started making a fuss. Zhou Instructor hurried over to help clarify the situation.
Once everyone had left, Jiang Shiyan's legs gave way, and she collapsed onto the ground. Xiao Zhu took the initiative to apologize, "I'm sorry, Yanyan."
Jiang Shiyan, still catching her breath from the ordeal, replied, "It's fine; I should have mentioned it earlier."
Unable to contain her curiosity, Xiao Zhu asked, "You said you can communicate with snakes; can you show us?"
Upon hearing this, Jiang Shiyan placed the snake on the ground and drew a heart shape in the dirt with a stick. To everyone's surprise, the two snakes twisted their bodies into the shape of a heart.
This was enough for Zhou Instructor; without waiting for the operation to conclude, he immediately called the organization to report on Jiang Shiyan's situation.
At that moment, two little birds flew back unexpectedly, one of which was a rooster raised by a human trafficker.
This rooster was very familiar with the surroundings of the yard. However, Jiang Shiyan had not unlocked the language of chickens. Fortunately, with the little birds helping to relay messages, they could understand most of what was being communicated.
Under Jiang Shiyan's instructions, they sketched a simple map of the crime den's surroundings, including locations where guards were hiding and monitoring.
As dusk approached, Jiang Shiyan's eyes grew heavy; she struggled to keep her head up as it occasionally bobbed down.
Yan Anting walked up to Jiang Shiyan and was about to speak to wake her when suddenly Jiang Shiyan's hand slipped, and her head dropped directly onto the table.
In an instant, Yan Anting reached out and caught Jiang Shiyan's head. She blinked groggily awake, still half-convinced she was dreaming.
"What a beautiful face; if only you weren't wearing clothes, it must feel so nice to touch."
Returning with a cup of water, Xiao Zhu was stunned by the scene before her. However, what left her even more shocked was what happened next: the little girl actually reached out to touch Yan Anting's abs.
Fortunately, Jiang Shiyan's intentions did not succeed, as Yan Anting caught her hand. Xiao Zhu quickly stepped forward to shake Jiang Shiyan awake.
She jolted awake and looked up into Yan Anting's emotionless eyes. Yan Anting released her hand and said, "It's almost time for action."
With that, Yan Anting turned and walked away from Jiang Shiyan, who stared at his retreating figure in confusion.
"Sister Zhu, what was Captain Yan doing?" Zhu Zhu asked with a strange expression, then recounted what had just happened.
Jiang Shiyan felt as if a bolt of lightning had struck her. "You mean I... flirted with..."
Xiao Zhu nodded knowingly. "You've got guts; you're the first to dare to flirt with our Captain Yan."
Jiang Shiyan felt like crying.
"System, do you have any items that can turn back time or reset things? Give me one quickly."
"None."
"There’s no greater sorrow than a heart that has died."
