Jiang Shiyan lay on the table, her gaze vacant as she stared ahead.
For some reason, Yan Anting suddenly looked in her direction, causing Jiang Shiyan to jump up like a startled rabbit and instinctively hide under the table.
Yan Anting chuckled softly, "Am I that scary?"
Under the cover of night, Yan Anting and her team swiftly approached the human traffickers' hideout, guided by the very Rooster that had been abducted.
Soon, they had dealt with the guards outside and were preparing to move further inside when they unexpectedly ran into a trafficker who had come out to use the restroom. The man shouted in panic, "The police are here!"
He even pressed the alarm button before turning to flee.
Jiang Shiyan heard the alarm blaring in her ear, her heart racing in her throat.
Time seemed to stretch indefinitely until Jiang Shiyan caught a glimpse of the abducted children through a blurred vision.
"What happened to those kids with broken limbs?"
Yan Anting paused for a moment before responding, "Two of them died—one from blood loss and another from starvation."
Jiang Shiyan clutched the table tightly, her eyes reddening in an instant.
Just then, gunfire erupted in the forest, and the backup team on standby became instantly alert. Little Jiu jumped out from behind Jiang Shiyan; it turned out that a criminal had escaped.
The man had managed to break through the encirclement and was charging toward Jiang Shiyan, intending to take her hostage.
Unexpectedly, a venomous snake suddenly lunged out and bit the man's arm. He cried out in pain, grabbing the snake by its neck and flinging it away. Initially intent on escaping, the poisoned man soon succumbed to the spreading toxin and collapsed on the ground.
The little snake struggled in pain for a few moments before going still, its eyes still fixed in the direction of Jiang Shiyan. Blood slowly pooled beneath it, and upon seeing this, Jiang Shiyan couldn't help but shed tears.
After a long night, the raid finally came to an end. Jiang Shiyan buried the little snake in the sunlit soil. Animals typically have short lifespans, and she had witnessed many deaths before, but this little snake had died protecting her, which made her heart ache.
Fearing that her parents would worry, Jiang Shiyan chose to return to the Jiang family home. Upon seeing her, her parents could no longer hold back their emotions and burst into tears.
Xiao Zhu, who had accompanied her home, stood awkwardly to the side. Fortunately, Jiang Yiheng understood Jiang Shiyan well and trusted the police enough not to jump to conclusions about her being bullied.
As she cried, Jiang Shiyan hiccupped and said, "Brother, I want to eat matcha cheesecake."
Jiang Yiheng chuckled helplessly. "You take a shower and change your clothes; I'll drive you to get some."
She nodded, grabbed his sleeve, and wiped her nose vigorously before heading toward her room.
Jiang Yiheng was nearly exasperated; he couldn't scold his sister in front of the police.
After crying, Jiang Shiyan's mood finally improved. She took the initiative to tell her brother about how Little Jiu had saved her life. Although she spoke lightly of it, he could still imagine the danger she had faced.
However, he was now more worried about his sister. If the police knew about her abilities, wouldn't that mean they would be under official scrutiny?
It turned out that the more one feared something, the more likely it was to happen. The next day, the head of the Police Dog base came knocking at their door, accompanied by Zhu Xun and others who brought Little Jiu along. They expressed their desire to take Jiang Shiyan to visit the Police Dog base.
Officer Zhang smiled and nodded. Jiang Shiyan looked at Jiang Yiheng with anticipation. "Brother, I want to go."
Seeing his sister's eager expression made it hard for him to refuse. He intended to accompany her for reassurance but unexpectedly had to attend an emergency surgery and couldn't leave. He could only ask others to bring his sister back afterward.
Once at the Police Dog base, Jiang Shiyan's eyes lit up as she watched the dogs in training. After the instructor gave the dismissal command, all the Police Dogs rushed toward her.
All the Police Dogs surrounded her, barking and urging her to pet them, while Little Jiu was pushed out, anxiously howling from outside.
"I shouldn't have told them," she thought.
Jiang Shiyan was practically glowing with happiness, smiling as she gave each Police Dog a kiss.
Just then, someone rushed over. "Brother Tang, Black Tiger has gone wild again! You need to see this."
Instructor Tang's expression changed dramatically as he prepared to run off to handle the situation. However, Officer Zhang called out to him, and then Jiang Shiyan was summoned. "We have a German Shepherd police dog at our base that has been going crazy lately. It has bitten two colleagues and often runs into walls. Can you go talk to it?"
Jiang Shiyan immediately agreed. When she arrived at the room where Black Tiger was kept, she saw a fierce German Shepherd baring its teeth.
"Black Tiger, hello! I'm Jiang Shiyan. Don't be afraid; I'm here to help you."
"Woof! Can you really understand what I'm saying?" Jiang Shiyan smiled and nodded in affirmation.
Suddenly, Black Tiger began scratching at the fence. "Please help me! My head hurts so much; I feel terrible. They gave me an injection, and I didn't mean to bite them, but I can't control myself. It really hurts!"
Jiang Shiyan repeated what Black Tiger said: he had been injected with something harmful by bad people, and he felt awful—his head hurt badly, and he bit others because he couldn't control himself due to the pain.
Instructor Tang's face turned grim as he grabbed Jiang Shiyan's hand. "What did you say? Are you sure it was a harmful injection?"
