Yan Anting shared her WeChat contact with Jiang Shiyan, who didn’t think much of it and saved the contact as Captain Yan.
Just as she was about to say something, Yan Anting received a phone call, her expression instantly darkening. “I’ll be back soon.”
She then stood up and said to Jiang Shiyan, “I’ll send you my contact information later. I have something to attend to, Miss Jiang. Enjoy your meal.”
With that, Yan Anting left, and Jiang Shiyan felt a wave of relief wash over her. After finishing her meal, she got up to head home. She couldn’t shake the feeling that someone was watching her. She turned around several times but saw nothing unusual. Once outside, Jiang Shiyan stood by the roadside waiting for a taxi.
Suddenly, she heard voices. Following the sound, she spotted two rats rummaging through a trash bin nearby, one of them poking its head out from a sewer.
“There’s human flesh in the sewer; it smells so good! Aren’t you going to eat it? It’ll be gone soon.”
Jiang Shiyan’s face froze as she clearly heard their conversation, and the items in her hands fell to the ground with a thud.

Upon hearing this, she quickly put on her headphones and pretended to make a phone call while secretly crouching by the roadside, making hissing sounds towards the two rats. Startled by her presence, they hurriedly scurried into the trash.
Jiang Shiyan felt anxious but was deterred by the overwhelming stench as she approached.
After thinking for a moment, she took out a bowl of food and placed it on the roadside. The sweet aroma gradually lured the rats out.
“This is for you. Can you answer a few questions for me?”
The two rats stared at her in shock. “Hiss! You can understand us? Is this food really for us?”
“Of course it is. Is it true that there’s human flesh in the sewer? Could it be pork or beef or something else?”
"Zizi, it's human flesh, just in pieces. Now only the bones are left," the voice echoed ominously.
Jiang Shiyan asked again, "When did it appear?"
"It suddenly showed up as a piece of meat the night before last."
Jiang Shiyan's expression grew increasingly serious. After exchanging a quick greeting with Mouse, she left. The idea of a corpse was too bizarre to comprehend, so she immediately took a cab to the police station to find a familiar officer.
Xiao Zhu ran out, looking puzzled. "Yanyan, what are you doing here?"
Jiang Shiyan's face lit up with excitement as she grabbed Xiao Zhu's hand. "Sister Xiao Zhu, I need to report something. There's a dissected corpse in the sewer at the night market, but I overheard it from two mice."
Xiao Zhu was taken aback; it was clear that this girl was involved in something serious. Suddenly, she seemed to remember something and grabbed Jiang Shiyan's arm. "Come with me."
They headed straight to the deputy chief's office. " Bureau Song, we might have a lead," Xiao Zhu announced.
Bureau Song paused for a moment, but when he saw Jiang Shiyan, he seemed to understand.
"Xiao Zhu, you know about the murder case in the park, right?"
Xiao Zhu slapped her forehead. "I haven't even told her about that yet! Yanyan came to report that there's a dismembered corpse in the sewer, and it was two mice who told her."
It turned out they had received a report about a murder case in the park two hours ago, and Jiang Shiyan's discovery could be related to the case.
Seeing this, Jiang Shiyan shared everything she knew, and Bureau Song promptly dispatched officers to take action.
Jiang Shiyan naturally accompanied the police on their mission. Upon arrival, the officers immediately began to clear the area.
Jiang Shiyan approached a nearby trash can, and at her call, the two mice emerged once more from the pile of garbage.
"Here, here, little Yanyan, come quickly!"
Bureau Song gestured, and the group promptly followed Jiang Shiyan's lead, winding through alleys until they finally arrived at a narrow passage.
Jiang Shiyan suddenly pointed at a trash can in front of her. "There’s something here."
At Bureau Song's command, police officers donned masks and gloves to sift through the garbage, and indeed, they uncovered human tissue.
When they reached the entrance of the sewer, Jiang Shiyan looked at Bureau Song with hesitation. "Can I not go down?"
"I'll handle it!"
A familiar voice came from behind Jiang Shiyan; it was Yan Anting, who had rushed over from another crime scene.
He reached out to take the bowl containing the two mice. "I'll go down."
Before long, they found what they were looking for in the sewer. After Jiang Shiyan confirmed with the mice that there was nothing else, Bureau Song instructed everyone to wrap up.
Just as Jiang Shiyan was about to head back, she felt that unsettling sensation of being watched wash over her again.
Seeing her constantly glancing around, Xiao Zhu asked curiously, "What’s wrong?"
"I always feel like someone is watching me."
Jiang Shiyan ran her fingers through her hair. "Maybe I'm just too tired and imagining things."
Xiao Zhu's gaze darkened. She felt that Jiang Shiyan might be targeted by someone. Without making a fuss, she sent Jiang Shiyan home and immediately reported the matter to Bureau Song.
Bureau Song took this lucky star, Jiang Shiyan, very seriously and promptly arranged for two plainclothes officers to protect her discreetly.
To help the police solve the case as soon as possible, Jiang Shiyan went to the park where the incident occurred the next day, looking for nearby stray animals to exchange information with using the snacks she had prepared.
Indeed, a stray Calico Cat had witnessed the entire event.
"Meow meow, I was hiding in the bushes and saw it was a man, but he only had three fingers on one hand."
As for the appearance of the murderer, there was no further information to be gathered; after all, in a cat's eyes, humans all look quite similar aside from distinguishing between genders.
After wandering around the park for the whole morning, Jiang Shiyan felt hungry. Just as she was about to take a taxi home, a cab stopped right in front of her.
Without thinking much, Jiang Shiyan opened the door and got in.
"Driver, take me to..."
Just as she spoke, she casually looked up and caught sight of the driver's right hand—he only had three fingers left.
