Chapter Eighty-Eight: The Inevitable Deathmatch 2 0

"Should we go take a look?" Luci stood on the low wall, peering into the darkness. The desolate land was shrouded in night, and the distant Coal Gangue Pile was nearly indistinguishable from the shadows. 0

Pan Luo had earlier returned to call Chao Yifan and his group, saying he would bring everyone back to set off. However, they had been gone for two hours, and with nightfall, there was still no sign of their return. 0

An Zheng helped Cao Liang out of the vehicle. Old Cao had been cooped up inside, and he leaned against a mound of earth, taking deep breaths of fresh air that felt refreshing from within. 0

"If they don't come out, it won't help us to go over there," An Zheng said, her eyelids twitching. Although she kept telling herself it was just due to lack of sleep, the unease in her heart grew stronger. 0

"Luo Luo told us to leave if there was any movement, but it's been so long without any response," Wheat said, having been awakened by the cold night wind sweeping through the desolate area. 0

Only the cats and dogs seemed at ease, eating and sleeping as if everything around them was irrelevant. 0

"Could something have happened?" Luci hesitated to voice her thoughts, but the current situation forced her to entertain such worries. 0

Cao Liang stood up with his shovel, his expression serious. "Qianqian, do you see what’s over there?" 0

Luci turned at his words and looked in the direction he pointed. It was their route back; in the distance, two bright lights were approaching rapidly. 0

"A car...?" Luci found it hard to believe that there could be a vehicle in this remote area. She climbed onto the wall, tucking her hair that had been blown about by the wind behind her ears and squinting for a better look. 0

It really was a car; the two bright spots were headlights, and closely following were two more vehicles speeding toward them. In no time at all, they entered everyone's line of sight. 0

An Zheng sensed a hint of unease and quickly urged Wheat to get into the vehicle. 0

"Three cars, all Cherokees." 0

"Get down! Move!" An Zheng realized something was wrong and hurriedly got into the car, starting the engine. 0

Three vehicles sped forward without slowing down, racing across the field toward the position of the minibus. 0

Luci felt a chill run down her back as she realized danger was approaching. She hurriedly jumped down from the dirt wall and grabbed Cao Liang, running toward the vehicle. 0

"Quick!" 0

The Cherokee, under An Zheng's gaze, drew closer with no intention of stopping, heading straight for the minibus! 0

With a loud crash, the stationary minibus was struck sideways and flipped over, its middle section caving in with a large dent. The glass shattered with a loud crash, scattering everywhere as the vehicle toppled to one side, pushed hard against the dirt wall by the following car, kicking up a cloud of dust before finally coming to a stop. 0

"Hahaha! Liang Bao, your mother sells junk! Uncle Two's car is wrecked; let's see how you handle this!" 0

The three Cherokees parked side by side in front of the overturned minibus. The doors swung open, and seven or eight young men jumped out, all wearing tight tank tops that revealed their tattooed arms and muscular physiques. 0

From the first car that crashed out came a tall and burly young man with messy hair on his head. He bore a resemblance to Fatty Jin, with a broad back and an intimidating build. A fierce-looking ghost face tattoo was visible on his chest as he laughed heartily with a cigarette dangling from his mouth. 0

"Just wreck it and get a new one; I didn't want this junk anyway." The man known as Liang Bao slapped the overturned minibus and shouted, "Where did this car come from? Hurry up and search for anything valuable." 0

The group of young men eagerly surrounded the vehicle, wielding either dirt guns or hammers. They smashed away at the broken glass and shone flashlights inside as they climbed in. 0

"Brother Bao, there's a kid!" 0

"There's someone! A woman!!" 0

"Wow? She really looks like a star." 0

Several of the boys who had squeezed into the vehicle exclaimed in surprise as they pulled out buckets of pure water and food items one after another. 0

"Where is he?" Liang Bao asked, stepping on the bike while taking a drag from his cigarette, his eyes fixed on the chaotic interior of the vehicle. 0

"Next." 0

Two young men hoisted the unconscious An Zheng above their heads and handed him out the window. 0

"Huh?" Liang Bao was delighted. Although the blood on An Zheng's face marred his appearance somewhat, his well-proportioned figure and the elegant curve of his profile were definitely not hidden. 0

"And there's more!" Wheat and a little boy were also passed up. 0

Suddenly, chaos erupted in the cabin. The sound of barking filled the air as a shadow leaped out of the window. Liang Bao punched it mid-air, sending it crashing to the ground. Yellow Dog was stunned, getting up and swaying for a while before realizing who had hit him. 0

"I'll take this one; tie him up for me," Liang Bao declared, pointing at Yellow Dog to assert ownership. 0

"Brother Bao, the Brothers haven't had meat in days; dog meat is a great tonic!" One Toothless Kid leaned in, pinching Yellow Dog's flesh. "Not even two ounces of meat here." 0

"To hell with that," Liang Bao waved his hand and slapped him. "I’m keeping him; anyone who dares to eat my dog will have their legs broken." 0

The group of young men shrank back, chuckling at the scene. 0

"Still breathing; he's not dead," Liang Bao said as he checked An Zheng's breath and casually touched his ample chest, pleased. "You all head back first; I'll be there shortly." 0

The boys laughed and carried their things back into the vehicle. The one who had been slapped pointed at Wheat and the little boy, asking, "What about these two?" 0

"Take the little girl back; Kid, throw the other one far away; he's a hassle," Liang Bao waved his hand dismissively. "Hurry up now." 0

Toothless Kid looked dejected, wishing he could slap himself for saying anything—now he had to run another errand. 0

The others left with Wheat and supplies, heading towards the Coal Gangue Pile. Toothless Kid carried the unconscious little boy deeper into the wilderness, while Yellow Dog, tied by a rope to the car bumper, stared blankly, appearing to have suffered a concussion. 0

Liang Bao pulled out a tissue from his pocket and wiped the blood off An Zheng's forehead. After confirming that the wound wasn't serious, he sighed in relief. His car had been taken, leaving him with nothing, so he crawled back into the vehicle and rummaged around. Before long, he pulled out a towel and pressed it against An Zheng's injury. 0

An Zheng furrowed her brows slightly and let out a low groan of pain. Liang Bao bandaged her wound and then began to unbutton her shirt, smacking his lips in appreciation as he removed her blood-stained pants. 0

Behind the earthen wall, Cao Liang tightly covered Luci's mouth, doing his best to prevent her from crying out. 0

Due to their leg injuries, they hadn't jumped into the car and managed to escape just before the minibus flipped over. However, after the minibus overturned, it was pushed forward several meters by another vehicle, and they were caught off guard, thrown violently out of the way. Fortunately, they landed behind the earthen wall. 0

Luci protected Cao Liang while he shielded her in return; ultimately, neither managed to protect the other. Luci's arm was dislocated from the impact, leaving her pale with pain. Cao Liang knew that danger still lurked nearby and could only try to keep Luci quiet, forcing himself not to think about what had happened behind the wall. 0

Luci pinched Cao Liang with her uninjured arm, prompting him to carefully release his grip. 0

"Save her," Luci urged through gritted teeth as she picked up a shard of glass and handed it to Cao Liang. 0

Cao Liang nodded and clutched the glass shard as he circled around to peek at the scene where the minibus had overturned. 0

All three vehicles had returned, leaving only a humanoid bear figure and An Zheng by the side of the minibus. Clothes were strewn across the ground, and An Zheng lay limply against the car edge, her body shrouded in shadow as her dangling arm swayed back and forth. 0
