Chapter 125: Unexpected Arrival 0

Caroline hurried back to the Research Center, and under the guidance of Black Man, she found Kenny. She had been handling administrative tasks for a while, and during her downtime, she had grown bored enough to spend her days applying makeup. Since Kenny's return, she had finally bid farewell to the thick stack of documents and returned to her rightful position. Last time, Kenny had instructed her to transfer a batch of supplies and experimental materials, and she had not let him down; she completed the task almost at lightning speed, bringing back another piece of news that was uncertain in nature. 0

"How has Kenny been lately?" Caroline, with her long legs, strode forward without fear of any mishaps. Every few steps, she had to pause and wait for Black Man. This black figure always maintained a leisurely demeanor, remaining unmoved even as Caroline grew increasingly impatient. 0

"Same as usual, looking good," Black Man replied, shaking his head that seemed to lack a neck, speaking without even bothering to move his thick lips. 0

"Still holed up in the lab?" 0

"Yeah, he occasionally goes out for a walk." 0

"Out for a walk??" 0

"Yep, just out for a walk." 0

Black Man waddled along without providing any further explanation. Caroline felt frustrated but was left with no choice. 0

"What about Wu Wentao? What has he been up to lately?" 0

"No idea," Black Man scratched his scalp and stopped in front of the elevator. He entered his personal access code and gestured for her to enter. Just as the doors were closing, Black Man winked at Caroline and said in a low voice, "You should come back to do internal affairs; the Field Personnel look lacks femininity." 0

Caroline rolled her eyes at him through the metal doors. Straightening her posture in front of the mirror inside the elevator, she proudly muttered to herself, "Lacks femininity? Then what is this?" 0

The Underground Laboratory Area had been rearranged by Kenny. Previously, the Cultivation Room was only found in the Level Four Security Zone, but now, aside from the reagent adaptation area, the entire Underground Laboratory Area was almost entirely occupied by Cultivation Rooms. Caroline didn’t understand what her boss was trying to do, but she liked the current version of Kenny. Although his commands and demeanor sometimes felt unfamiliar, she preferred serving this new Kenny over the cold and rigid one from before. 0

The corridor was lined with Cultivation Rooms, where many half-human, half-ghost beings were either sitting or standing inside. Kenny had completely opened this area, leaving only security personnel present. Caroline donned a loose protective suit and curiously approached one of the Cultivation Rooms. Behind the Tempered Glass Wall sat a woman completely naked at a table, staring blankly at a tray on the surface. The tray held bloody human organs, and judging by their shape, it seemed like a stomach freshly removed from a body. The woman’s skin appeared normal, her black hair neatly arranged, and her gaze towards the tray was strange—curious yet somewhat perplexed. 0

A security officer greeted Caroline and noticed her odd expression while looking at the woman. He took the initiative to explain, “Don’t you remember her?” 0

“Oh?” Caroline raised an eyebrow in curiosity and asked, “Who is she?” 0

“B Zone Duty Staff; she used to be Wu Wentao’s—” 0

“Oh!” Caroline exclaimed, pointing at the woman inside. “Why is she in there?” 0

“Kenny’s decision; the duty team was too bloated, so they cut staff.” The security officer had an Asian face and spoke with a hint of glee, his eyes constantly darting back to the woman. 0

“So what is she now?” Caroline clicked her tongue in disbelief at Kenny's actions. 0

“Something like that. She had her stomach removed just two hours ago. Look at her; no wonder her figure is so good with such a small stomach.” The security officer gestured with his hands and added meaningfully, “Your figure is great too.” 0

Caroline frowned slightly and shot him a glare before turning to leave. 0

Kenny had set up both his office and living quarters in the Laboratory. When Caroline found him, he was lying on a bed without any bedding, taking a nap. 0

“Kenny, there’s news.” Caroline surveyed the small room; aside from the bed, there was nothing else. 0

Kenny sat up and smiled at his confidant. "Thanks for your hard work. There's no place to sit here." 0

"Uh, it's fine..." Caroline swallowed hard, deciding to set aside her doubts. She took the initiative to say, "The materials have all been sent back, but we lost 17 of them along the way." 0

"Oh? Not bad at all, much better than I expected." Kenny put on his gold-rimmed glasses and pondered for a moment before asking, "What about the others? How's the base operating?" 0

"Everything is normal. The Research Team was quite surprised by the results; I think those old-timers are about to change their beliefs. Kenny, you’ll be their god and Buddha from now on." Caroline recalled the ecstatic researchers at the base, a smirk forming on her lips. 0

"I'm not interested in gathering followers," Kenny shrugged, his smile filled with elegance and restraint. "Any other news?" 0

"Well... the base received some strange messages." Caroline tilted her head, indicating her confusion about the information. She organized her thoughts and said, "Has the base contacted anyone outside?" 0

Kenny raised his eyebrows, seemingly trying to grasp Caroline's meaning. His brow furrowed as he asked, "What do you mean?" 0

"I'm not sure; the information department said... that there was an active signal contacting the base just a couple of days ago." Caroline spread her hands, her expression growing more peculiar. "They said the base's communication channels are double A-class secure. It used to be a two-way channel, but it was changed to one-way later on. The access code is an internal password, and they didn't have any records of previous communications, so they didn't answer it recklessly." 0

Kenny rubbed his temples in confusion. "Can't the information department trace the contact?" 0

"No, remember you modified that area—" 0

"Oh right, I remember now." Kenny chuckled self-deprecatingly, tapping his head. "My memory has been getting worse lately... How about this: you go down and check." 0
