Chapter 135: Borrowing Seeds 0

Luci usually kept her hands to herself, but when she did act, it was astonishing. The woman felt the pressure around her neck, her skin prickling with goosebumps from the sharp blade. She immediately wilted under the threat. Although she continued to curse, her hand that had reached for the axe loosened its grip. 0

The onlookers gasped in shock, their eyes nearly popping out. They had expected to see a catfight between women, and Luci's sweet appearance and curvy figure were far from what one would associate with a petty brawl. The thought of her being stripped bare in a fight was enough to make them a bit excited. 0

“Ahem!” The usually silent Old Shepherd finally spoke up. With a long sigh, he tapped the smoking pot against the stove wall and said, “Girl, put down the knife. Royal Daughter-in-Law, don’t cause any more trouble.” 0

Luci glanced at him and used her toe to push the axe behind her before slowly retracting the blade. The woman plopped down on the ground, no longer screaming but sobbing quietly, tears streaming down her face. 0

“Now, young man, tell me honestly what’s going on here.” Old Shepherd coughed twice and saw the crowd chattering away. He glared at them and said, “Everyone else, quiet down!” 0

Chao Yifan spat in annoyance and pointed at the corpse on the bed. “Just look at what these women are doing! Damn it, this is a Zombie, not some inflatable doll! They even loosened the ropes! If I hadn’t discovered this in time, not just those three, but your entire village would be in trouble!” 0

“You—” 0

“Shh!” Old Shepherd silenced the woman’s cries, his brows furrowed tightly as he spoke in awkward Mandarin. “You keep talking about Zombies—what exactly is a Zombie? And you! Instead of drinking at home, what are you doing here in the middle of the night?” 0

“I…” Chao Yifan stammered, his dusty face flushing red. Just moments ago he had been shouting defiantly; now he seemed embarrassed. Seeing his demeanor made Ming Junwei and the others puzzled—could it be that this guy really got carried away after drinking? 0

Chao Yifan rolled his eyes at them internally, thinking to himself how ridiculous it was. It was all because Jin Bo had mentioned there were adult films to watch here during the day. He had expected to see some restricted scenes at night but ended up in a horror movie before any action could start. If he hadn’t acted quickly, it might have turned into a disaster film. 0

Ming Junwei considered this for a moment and then looked back at Chao Yifan’s embarrassed face. He began to understand what had happened. He shot him an exasperated glare; even his own expression was becoming hard to maintain. 0

The crowd, seeing his silence, grew even more suspicious and began to shout accusations again. 0

"Who the hell is Chao Tianwang? How can he just take this injustice lying down?" Seeing the crowd's enthusiasm for the insults, he felt a surge of anger and shouted, "Damn it! I just wanted to come over... to see the scenery. I heard the Zombies inside making noise and was worried something might happen, so I came in!" 0

A few people, including Cao Liang, guessed the situation and turned their faces away, unable to look directly at him. They knew what kind of "scenery" Chao Yifan was interested in. Looking at the attire of the three women and then at the Zombies lying on the bed, they couldn't help but imagine the scene at that moment; it was too beautiful... only Chao Yifan would dare to look. 0

Old Shepherd wore a perplexed expression as he exhaled a thick cloud of smoke and frowned. "Young man, this is your fault. I warned you before not to meddle in other people's affairs. Why didn't you listen?" 0

"This isn't me meddling! I..." Chao Yifan suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of helplessness. At that moment, he missed Jiang He immensely; if Jiang He were here, he would definitely back him up. Bald Kid choked for a moment and said, "Sir, and everyone else, your Living Dead have already become man-eating monsters. They are no longer your relatives! Does your village not have a television? Haven't you seen those monsters harm people?" 0

"Stop talking nonsense! Eating people? Are you trying to fool us?" someone from the crowd mocked, prompting others to agree and point fingers at Chao Yifan for trying to argue. 0

"You idiots! Bring one of your relatives over! Who thinks I'm lying? Step forward! If you untie your relative and sleep with them for a night, and if you still have bones left by morning, then I'll take your last name!" Chao Yifan was furious; he hated arguing with these villagers who clearly had misconceptions. They were just like some people during the early days of the Cataclysm in the city, still treating Zombies as patients. Chao Tianwang thought it would be simple to cure this kind of thinking—just let one get bitten in public, and everything would be resolved. 0

Ming Junwei pulled the agitated Chao Yifan aside with a sigh. He understood these people's mindset. This place was isolated; information from the outside world was cut off beyond the Loess Plateau. Forget about televisions; the entire village didn't even have a gas stove. Moreover, being cut off from the world was one thing, but changing perceptions was another matter entirely. Even if one or two people were bitten to death, they would still think it was just an illness or blame it on being possessed; it wouldn't make any difference. If another death occurred, things could become even more troublesome. 0

Many in the crowd were shouting loudly now; some were pushing their way out, clamoring that they would go fetch their wives or husbands to verify what Chao Yifan had said. 0

Luci was both anxious and angry; she nudged Ming Junwei and whispered, "What should we do?" 0

"Don't panic," Ming Junwei replied slowly as he exhaled deeply, pondering for a moment. "Sir, it's clear that you hold great respect here. Regardless of how things have turned out, we need to find a way to resolve this. Shouting won't help; wouldn't you agree?" 0

The noise from the crowd quieted down as they seemed to find Ming Junwei more agreeable. A few people echoed his sentiment: "What this brother said makes sense—let's resolve it! Resolve it!" 0

The Old Shepherd picked up his hand, seeming a bit troubled as he pondered for a moment and said, "You all, let me think for a while, don't make any noise." 0

The old man closed his eyes, contemplating a solution. Suddenly, Cao Liang's eyes lit up as he leaned closer to Ming Junwei and said, "It's strange. Do you remember when we encountered him? Didn't he mention that he had met many outsiders? Why haven't we seen any? If outsiders came in here and saw the Zombies, they would surely tell others about it, right?" 0

"I thought of this just now. It seems that the so-called outsiders... are probably the Zombies. Otherwise, how could anyone get infected in this secluded place?" Ming Junwei replied. 0
