Chapter 140: Waiting for the Sun to Rise (Part One) 0

Jiang He suddenly turned hostile, causing the two girls who had just relaxed to tense up once again. 0

"Step back and put down your weapons." Jiang He aimed the rifle at the man who was close by. The room was shrouded in darkness; although their faces were not visible, their silhouettes were clearly defined. 0

"What... what does this mean?" Ponytail Girl was confused. They had just fought side by side, so how could he turn against them so suddenly? 0

"Weiwei, listen to him." The other girl, slightly calmer, took the red knife from Ponytail Girl's hand and threw her own screwdriver onto the ground as well. The man in the middle raised his hands; his weapon was still propped against the door. 0

"Who are you?" Jiang He kicked the weapon closer to himself and reached down to feel around on the ground, finding the lighter and keys he had dropped earlier. A corpse with a blown-off head lay near the fire pit, its decaying stench filling the room as it heated up. He held his breath, overwhelmed by the foul odor. 0

Jiang He was not someone who would burn bridges; his sudden wariness stemmed mainly from the man's low call. 0

"Erguotou." 0

Indeed, those with good memories might recall that Erguotou here did not refer to liquor but rather to the large yellow dog that had joined Pan Luo's group! Song Yao had specifically mentioned this dog when introducing Pan Luo. The name Erguotou was given by a teacher who had escaped with Pan Luo and a few classmates. Besides Jiang He's group, only that teacher and Pan Luo's classmates would know the dog's name! 0

When the three of them broke in, it had been too chaotic for Jiang He to pay attention to their appearances. The fire in the room had gone out, and they hadn't had time to introduce themselves. Judging by their voices and builds, it was clear these were not members of Jiang He's team. According to Pan Luo, their teacher had been killed by Zhou Huai and several other students, which meant that this man before them was undoubtedly one of those beasts who had tormented his classmates alongside Zhou Huai! 0

The room fell silent for a long moment; no one answered Jiang He's question. The three exchanged puzzled glances in the dark, especially the two girls, who were clearly bewildered by the situation. 0

Outside, zombies continued to roar, and sounds of impact echoed from beyond the door. Yet within this room, separated by just a door, an unusual silence enveloped them. 0

Seeing that the three people remained silent, Jiang He guessed he was right. He thought to himself: what a coincidence, today he would kill this beast of a classmate to honor Little Pan's spirit. He immediately pulled the gun's bolt and raised the muzzle. 0

His actions sent a chill down the spines of the three across from him. One of the men seemed to finally react and hurriedly waved his hands in protest, saying, "Wait, wait, don't be impulsive! Are you Jiang He or Chao Yifan?" 0

... 0

"Huh?" Just a second ago, Jiang He had been filled with murderous intent, but upon hearing the question, he instantly reverted to his clueless mode. He stared blankly for a moment, feeling somewhat dazed. What was going on? Pan Luo's classmates shouldn't know him and Chao Yifan, right? 0

The two girls were just as confused as Jiang He, their dark eyes darting around as questions filled their minds. 0

While the three of them were stunned, the young man suddenly burst into laughter, visibly relieved as he exhaled deeply, unable to contain his excitement: "Could it be Zhuzi Brother?" 0

Jiang He desperately searched his mind for the owner of that voice, filtering through everyone he knew until an image suddenly crystallized in his mind. 0

"What the hell? No way..." Jiang He muttered under his breath and tentatively asked, "Graduate student Smida?" 0

"It's me! You remembered!" The boy's voice shot up an octave with excitement. He cheered and jumped over the fallen Zombie to pounce on Jiang He, lifting him off the ground and spinning him around while shouting, "You are Jiang He, right?! Finally found you!" 0

"Let go, let go, let go!" Jiang He felt dizzy from being spun around and quickly struggled free, stepping back two paces. He almost couldn't resist firing in response to the sudden attack. 0

The two girls maintained their spectator mode, guessing that a fight was unlikely now and collectively sighed in relief. 0

Ignoring the overly excited young man, Jiang He lit a Wheat Straw and held it up to his face. The flickering flame illuminated the darkened living room, revealing a flushed young man standing before him. Perhaps it was just the light, but Jiang He thought that even the acne on his face seemed to glow with a rosy hue. 0

He was still worried that Jiang He wouldn't remember, so he eagerly leaned his face closer to the firelight and exclaimed, "It really is you, Jiang He! Haha, remember me? I came down with you from the Power Station!" 0

"I remember, I remember..." Jiang He swallowed hard and reached out to stop him from leaning in any further. Seriously, if he got any closer, they might as well be kissing. 0

Jiang He gestured for Wheat Straw to sit down, unable to hide his amazement. The excited and passionate face in the firelight belonged to none other than the graduate student who had been taken under Chao Yifan's wing. On the day they were attacked by Yellow Wind and Zhou Huai at Luci's Farmhouse, the graduate student was the first to go missing. At first, everyone thought he was up to something, but later it was confirmed that Zhou Huai was the mastermind behind it all, clearing him of suspicion. The situation had been dire then; everyone had fled in chaos. Not only him, but even Cao Liang and Zhuzi had been brought back by Chao Yifan during his second trip to Chang'an. Everyone assumed this frail young man had fallen victim to Zhou Huai's schemes, yet here they were, reuniting in this desolate wilderness nearly a month later! 0

Back then, the graduate student had been utterly useless. Not only was he physically weak, but his courage was as small as a fingernail; whenever zombies attacked, he would curl up in a corner like a quail. It was only because Chao Yifan had been injured and bored that he thought about toughening up this fragile student. But before any progress could be made, he had gone missing. Now, sitting across from Jiang He was a completely upgraded version of that student—charging at zombies and risking his life at doors; this kid had put in quite an effort and even managed to guess Jiang He's identity while facing his gun... Jiang He shook his head and muttered, "It's been three days since we last met; how surprising..." 0

Jiang He chuckled in disbelief. If fate truly existed in some mysterious way, then this fate was quite absurd. He patted the upgraded graduate student on the shoulder and said with a smile, "I really didn't expect this. Tell me what happened? We all thought you were dead." 0

"Cough cough..." Ponytail Girl beside them cleared her throat and hesitantly said, "Brother Bear... shouldn't you introduce us first..." 0

"Oh right, how could I forget?" The graduate student slapped his forehead and pulled the two girls huddled in the corner over. "This is Weiwei; she's the older sister. This is Yin Nuo; she's the younger sister. And this is Jiang He —our former team leader I told you about!" 0

"Don't mention it; have you ever seen a team leader who lost all his team members?" Jiang He awkwardly waved his hand and exclaimed in surprise, "So you managed to find a pair of sisters?" 0

"Oh, so it was you guys who left Brother Bear behind," Weiwei said with a sarcastic huff while her younger sister nudged her gently to signal her to stop. 0
