Liu Yan ultimately followed Song Jiu's instructions and drove back to the Roundabout with a terrified Dr. Zhong. Everything at the Roundabout seemed unchanged; Song Yao and Luo Yu were waiting outside the building. Upon seeing the damaged business vehicle, they realized something had happened.
"Where are Brother Jiu and the Fake Taoist?" Luo Yu glanced into the car, noticing only Liu Yan and a stranger.
"To make a long story short, this is the doctor. Take him where he needs to go. Where are the others?" Liu Yan, usually calm and composed, was showing signs of impatience, which only heightened Song Yao and Luo Yu's anxiety.
"The people from the bar have arrived; they're inside. What happened?" the two women asked urgently.
Liu Yan didn't stop his pace as he dragged Dr. Zhong into the bar, only to find it eerily silent inside. Everyone, including Ming Junwei, was huddled together as if discussing something serious.
Song Yao and Luo Yu rushed in right behind him. Noticing something was off, Ming Junwei looked up in confusion and asked, "What's going on?"
" Brother Jiu found the doctor," Liu Yan said, ignoring the circle of Militia members. "The train station is currently vulnerable; Brother Jiu wants us to take advantage of this opportunity."
"What?" The group was stunned. It had been less than an hour since Song Jiu and the others left, and hadn't they just said they were going to scout things out? How had it suddenly turned into an all-out assault?
Song Yao furrowed her brows tightly and pressed for more information, "Where are they?"
" Brother Jiu and Old Lin are circling around the city with their main forces; we need to move quickly." Liu Yan felt a bit uncertain as he spoke. He knew that as Deputy, he should be persuading Song Jiu, but out of habit from his time with RCA and following Song Jiu's lead, he was used to obeying orders. Even though he recognized that Song Jiu's decision was too risky, he couldn't muster the courage to argue against it.
Everyone stood there dumbfounded, casting questioning glances at Ming Junwei.
Ming Junwei's expression shifted between anger and amusement as he shook his head with a wry smile. He turned to the unfamiliar face in front of him and teased, "Your arrival with such a grand gift is quite timely."
The stranger chuckled awkwardly and shrugged, "Consider it a timely assistance."
"Alright." Ming Junwei jumped down from the table and waved his hand. "Jia Jia, you take Old Five to rest; Yinuo, take that doctor to Little Bear. The rest of you come over to get your weapons. Liu Yan, explain the situation clearly."
As he spoke, he continued moving, picking up a large bag and carrying it to the dance floor. He unzipped it and shook it out, revealing a pile of sleek black firearms of various lengths.
"What the hell?"
The quiet bar hall erupted with exclamations. Not only the Militia but also Song Yao and others were stunned, staring at the row of rifles and handguns, their eyes nearly popping out.
Old Five, who had stood up to follow Chef Jia, scratched his head and grinned. "They're all new gear, well-maintained."
Liu Yan and Luo Yu exchanged glances, both filled with surprise. This was not the homemade shotgun they used by the riverbank. Luo Yu was unfamiliar with these deadly weapons, but Liu Yan knew them well. For a moment, he forgot to report on Song Jiu's situation and walked over to pick up a Heckler & Koch G36 with fervent eyes.
"Where did all this come from?" Liu Yan asked in astonishment.
"Fell from the sky," Ming Junwei shrugged, his face beaming with joy. If it weren't for Song Jiu causing trouble midway, he would have prepared a feast for everyone to celebrate this unexpected windfall. Ming Junwei and his crew were seasoned gun users, each selecting their preferred weapons while Liu Yan helped the inexperienced Militia load magazines. Turning around, he noticed the girl who had arrived in the morning standing behind the bar, looking hesitant.
Seeing her reminded Liu Yan of business. He hurriedly said, " Brother Jiu said your friend is still in the car; there's no need to worry."
Yuan An timidly nodded, gazing at the armed-to-the-teeth Militia. She quietly asked, "Are you all going to the train station?"
"Yes," Ming Junwei guessed part of her thoughts and reassured her, "Don't worry; we'll bring your friend back."
"I want to go with you," Yuan An bit her lip and stated firmly.
"Oh?" Ming Junwei raised an eyebrow. After considering it briefly, he found no reason to refuse her request. Moreover, she had provided reliable information. Thus, he did not stop her and asked, "Can you handle a gun?"
"I don't need it, I have a knife." Yuan An retrieved his Yingjisha from the bar, feeling a bit more at ease.
At that moment, Dr. Zhong, who had been taken upstairs by Yinuo, suddenly panicked and shouted towards them, "Yuan An! It's me!"
The bar fell silent instantly, all eyes turning to Yuan An. Startled, he frowned and looked over, exclaiming, "What happened to you?" Realizing halfway through his sentence, he added angrily, "Is my friend okay? Is she hurt?"
"She's safe; I haven't harmed her," Dr. Zhong managed to break free from Yinuo's grasp and stumbled forward, only to be knocked down by several Militia members with the butt of their guns.
Pinned to the ground, Dr. Zhong strained his neck to speak to Ming Junwei. "You're their leader, right? I know they shouldn't have stolen anything, but please, I beg you not to hurt them. I'll compensate for whatever they took."
Everyone was taken aback, looking confused.
"What nonsense is this?" Ming Junwei frowned and asked Liu Yan, "Is this really a doctor?"
Liu Yan was equally bewildered and muttered, " Brother Jiu said so."
"I am a doctor! I really am! If you don't believe me, ask Yuan An!" Dr. Zhong shouted desperately at Yuan An. "What did you steal? Can we discuss this?"
Ming Junwei looked at Yuan An with a strange expression before glancing down at the doctor on the floor. "Who told you she stole something?"
"Ah," Dr. Zhong paused for a moment as if realizing something. His face turned red and pale in succession as he stammered, "The young man who tied me up said he was lying to me."
Ming Junwei couldn't help but chuckle and said to Song Yao, "When we get back, we need to tell your brother about this; it's just too much."
Song Yao smiled lightly, but then thought of Song Jiu still being in danger. She quickly composed herself and prepared to set off.
Ming Junwei suddenly became interested in Dr. Zhong, asking with confusion, "Yuan An, didn't you say you and your companions just got on the vehicle the day before yesterday? It seems our doctor friend values you quite a bit."
Yuan An was equally bewildered and shook his head in confusion. "I don't understand either."
"Don't you know?" Dr. Zhong nearly shouted in desperation. "In any case, do not harm her. You wanted me to help with the medical treatment, right? I will cooperate; I will cooperate fully."
Luci was also confused by the situation, her expression strange as she said, "What day is it today? Why is everyone turning against each other?"
"Let's focus on the main issue first," Ming Junwei said, shaking his arm as he loaded the police shotgun. He nudged Liu Yan and asked, "How's the armed group across from us?"
"They were quite strong ten minutes ago, but now it seems..." Liu Yan scanned the bar filled with armed thugs, a smile creeping onto his lips as he casually remarked, "They're just like that."
Dr. Zhong was pulled by two Militia members and looked at the group of thugs with a sinking heart. However, he calmed down and hesitated for a moment before gritting his teeth and saying, "Boss, there's no enmity between us; there's no need for it to come to life or death."
"Mm."
"There might be some misunderstanding between us. How about this: let me talk to our train conductor. I am willing to treat your injured for free." Dr. Zhong's mind began to work again; he thought there was nothing insurmountable here. Seeing Ming Junwei silent, he pressed on: "Everyone is just trying to survive in these chaotic times; it's not easy for anyone, right?"
Ming Junwei smiled and said, "I almost forgot about that. Liu Yan, why don't you ask him?"
Liu Yan understood and stepped forward with a cold smile. "Don't you know how e treats traitors?" As soon as he finished speaking, his face turned crimson; after all, wasn't he a traitor himself?
"Ah?" Dr. Zhong looked utterly bewildered.
"Which division are you from?" Liu Yan hurriedly skipped over the topic of traitors and said seriously, "Don't play games with me. I've seen your standard equipment; it's the RCA model. Although it's old, I recognize it."
"Friend, I really don't understand what you're talking about." Dr. Zhong's expression showed some hesitation. He vaguely recalled hearing Old Tian mention the three letters RCA, but he wasn't clear on what they referred to.
Liu Yan glanced at Ming Junwei, who shrugged, indicating for him to continue.
"What is the name of your train conductor?"
Dr. Zhong thought for a moment and felt there was a significant chance of misunderstanding, so he cautiously replied, "His name is Wu Wentao, not whatever you just said."
"What?" Liu Yan, who had been indifferent just moments ago, suddenly exploded in shock, startling Ming Junwei and the others.
Dr. Zhong thought this was bad; could it be that the conductor had enemies?
"Wu Wentao is in his thirties, has a square face, and speaks with a Ganbei accent," Liu Yan's expression changed dramatically, and he seemed somewhat flustered.
"That's right."
Ming Junwei and Song Yao were also taken aback; the name sounded familiar, but they couldn't quite place where they had heard it before. However, judging by Liu Yan's reaction, it likely had something to do with those people from the Gobi Desert.
Liu Yan didn't continue to ask further; the calm demeanor he had earlier vanished without a trace as he urged, "We need to rush to support Brother Jiu. He is no match for Wu Wentao."
Song Yao and Luo Yu's expressions stiffened as they called out to gather the fully equipped militia members.
Ming Junwei waved his hand, signaling the Militia to drag Dr. Zhong away. He looked around and saw that everyone was ready, then quietly asked, "What’s this person’s background?"
“He is on par with e; he used to be Kenny's right-hand man.” Liu Yan suddenly paused, recalling the conversation he had with e when he tried to defect at Riverside Camp. At that time, he had revealed that he was a member of Wu Wentao's team, and e had also been shocked, seemingly asking why he didn’t return to the team.
Liu Yan furrowed his brow and fell silent. After a moment, he muttered, “Could it be that he has also left RCA?”
As the situation shifted, Luo Yu grew anxious and said, “Let’s put everything else aside for now and go help Jiu Jiu!”
“Right, right.” Liu Yan snapped back to attention and said seriously, “Bring that doctor along; we might not even need to fight.”
“Are you serious?” Song Yao asked with a frown.
“I have some confidence,” Liu Yan nodded. As he followed the others out of the bar, he added, “I’ll explain everything on the way.”
