The night wind was cold, and the dust gradually settled.
The co-driver regained consciousness amidst the spinning chaos, lying on his back and moving his body, which triggered a violent cough that splattered blood across his face. The air was filled with painful groans and wails, and his hands were smeared with someone else's blood, sticky and warm. The excruciating pain coursing through him slowly brought clarity to his mind.
With great effort, the co-driver turned his body and struggled to crawl toward the shattered window nearby. Ignoring the sharp glass cutting into his lower abdomen, he pushed himself forward with all his might. The van had overturned, the fuel tank ruptured, and he could hear liquid trickling out. Besides the dust and blood in the air, his nostrils were filled with the heavy scent of gasoline.
Coughing again, the co-driver spotted a gun that had been thrown from the vehicle not far away. Taking a deep breath and suppressing the pain in his ribs, he reached out to grab the gun's handle but suddenly felt a sharp pain in the back of his hand.
He froze as a hard boot pressed down on his hand. Looking up to see who it was, he felt a chill on his forehead as a sharp Carbon Arrow was aimed at him. Behind the finely crafted crossbow stood a stunningly beautiful face.
The sudden turn of events left not only the co-driver stunned but also both sides engaged in fierce gunfire momentarily dazed.
"Fuck them!" Jin Bo was the first to react. Although he couldn't see why that vehicle had overturned, it was clear that victory was tipping in their favor. If they didn't take advantage of this moment to strike while the iron was hot, when would they?
With Jin Bo's command, those who had been cowering behind the vehicle regained their spirits. The opposing gunmen were still caught off guard as several rushed toward the overturned Jinbei van. The remaining fighters ceased their fire; it was an excellent opportunity for Song Yao and Luci to follow closely behind Jin Bo. Luo Yu also moved swiftly, abandoning her firearm due to lack of ammunition. She drew out her Steel Saw Blade with lightning speed and closed in on the gunmen, leaping over obstacles with fury and determination.
They may not have been skilled with firearms, but when it came to hand-to-hand combat, they were absolute professionals. Countless Zombies fell before them; practice made perfect. With blades in hand at such close range, what could a steel gun do against them?
As Roundabout's top enforcer, Jin Bo once again delivered a vivid lesson to those stubborn Field Duty members using his long knife. The cold blade danced through the air as he engaged in close combat, giving him ample room to unleash his skills. Even though the now-alert gunmen opened fire to intercept him, they could not stop this young Swordmaster who moved like a vengeful spirit.
The clash lasted only an instant; victories were often decided in mere moments.
There was no denying that Field Duty's firepower was formidable, but their disarray would come at a bloody cost. Song Yao and her companions excelled at slaughtering flesh-and-blood foes. Jin Bo scored first; with his long knife held high, he moved agilely past Jinbei, unleashing a spray of blood as he went. No matter how sharp their gunfire was, if they couldn't hit him, what good was it? Luo Yu followed suit with equal ferocity; her movements were nimble and her strikes ruthless—though not as fluid as Jin Bo's style, each blow still drew blood. Not to mention that right behind Jin Bo were three Zombies who didn’t need exquisite skills; taking two bullets wouldn’t change the outcome.
Several gunmen fired repeatedly at Luci but soon realized with horror that this petite girl seemed unfazed by their words as she searched for Teddy Bear Brother.
Jin Bo pulled the co-driver over and angrily shouted, "Where's the other one? Where's that guy?"
The co-driver, covered in dust and blood, shot a cold glare at Jin Bo but remained silent.
"Fuck you," Jin Bo said, raising his hand to strike. Suddenly, he heard shouts from the lookout. Turning around, he saw a Nissan speeding down the road they had just come from, with a relentless horde of Zombies trailing behind.
Song Yao felt a surge of hope and said, "Get in the car, prepare to retreat."
