My Tenant is a Female Ghost
Bai Zhuo was a bit of a playboy, and even with Kagura Aoi by his side, he couldn't shake off that identity. He couldn't stand the sight of a woman's tears, even though he deeply disliked Cao Yu, the Crazy Woman.
In the darkness, Bai Zhuo heard Cao Yu's soft sobs and felt a pang of discomfort in his heart. Cautiously, he reached out a hand to wipe away her tears, but the darkness made it difficult to see. His hand accidentally brushed against Cao Yu's lips as he said, "Alright, a good man doesn't fight with a woman. Don't cry; it's my fault."
Bai Zhuo's hand felt wet, but he had no idea it was actually Cao Yu's saliva.
Cao Yu felt a mix of anger and amusement, her emotions swirling within her. She slapped Bai Zhuo's hand away and said with a tearful tone, "Get away from me! Who needs your pity? And take your filthy hand off me!"
Bai Zhuo was taken aback by her reaction. Instinctively, he squeezed his left hand, feeling something soft beneath his fingers. A moan reached his ears, and he suddenly realized he had overstepped with the lady.
Reluctantly withdrawing his hand, he stammered, "I... I didn't mean to... I'm sorry. Actually... I'm not that kind of person."
Cao Yu fell silent, somewhat skeptical.
Bai Zhuo added, "When I am that kind of person, I'm not human."
Cao Yu cracked a smile but quickly suppressed it. She curled up on the ground, covering herself protectively and asked coldly, "Where are we right now?"
Bai Zhuo then remembered and questioned in confusion, "Right! Didn't we just defeat Bai Jiang? How come we're lying here naked?"
Cao Yu wiped her tears and looked up to see a dark mass beneath Bai Zhuo. Her cheeks flushed red as she snapped coldly, "Turn around!"
"Ah! It's pitch black; even if you show me your face, I wouldn't be able to see!" Bai Zhuo replied but still turned away as Cao Yu requested.
Cao Yu continued, "You were possessed by the Painted Skin Demon. It was Su Meiniang and Lin Yao Yao who helped you escape from that predicament. As for why we're here... I’m not quite sure."
"What? Lin Yao Yao is here? That fox spirit Su Meiniang is here too? Have you seen them?" Bai Zhuo asked in surprise as he turned back.
Cao Yu screamed, "Ah~ Don't look back!"
"Oh! Sorry," Bai Zhuo scratched his head awkwardly and muttered to himself, "Lin Yao Yao is elusive; I can understand her being in this ancient tomb. But why is Su Meiniang here too? How strange!"
Cao Yu sat on the damp stone floor, feeling cold and embarrassed without any clothes. She didn't dare to stand up and could only sit there shivering. She had many questions but knew this wasn't the time to ask them. "So what should we do now?"
No matter how powerful or strong-willed a woman may be, when faced with such a terrifying unknown situation, if there is a man present, she will still rely on him for support. Cao Yu was no exception.
Bai Zhuo scanned the surroundings. This was a narrow one-way passage. Given his previous experiences, he dared not touch the walls or move around carelessly, fearing he might trigger some dreadful mechanism.
However, standing still and waiting for rescue was tantamount to waiting for death!
Summoning his courage, Bai Zhuo took two steps forward. Cao Yu kept her eyes fixed on his back, and suddenly noticed his figure slowly fading away. A chilling sense of dread crept up from behind her, causing every pore on her body to stand on end. Instinctively, she called out, "Hey! Where are you going?"
Bai Zhuo was startled by her sudden shout. He wanted to curse at her, but remembering her earlier sobs softened his heart. He explained, "Don't be afraid. I'm worried there might be traps here, so I'm just scouting ahead. It's better for one person to die than two, right?"
He thought to himself, look at your cold and noble demeanor; in times like this, you're still just a woman who needs a man’s help.
Cao Yu seemed to gather herself and, feeling shy was no longer an option, took a few steps forward to grab Bai Zhuo's hand. Instead, she felt something fuzzy.
"Ah! What are you grabbing?" Bai Zhuo exclaimed in pain; after all, that area could be considered a man's most vulnerable spot.
Cao Yu had never seen a pig run before? Realizing she had grabbed the wrong place, her face flushed with embarrassment as she muttered, "Who told you to turn around? You’re taking advantage of me!"
"Is it my fault?" Bai Zhuo replied sarcastically. "Fine, fine! Now we’re even; I touched you, and you squeezed me. We’re square!"
Thinking back to that strange sensation and the earlier situation where Bai Zhuo had taken control over her, Cao Yu felt like she had come off worse. Yet the other’s reasoning made some sense.
"Alright then! Even if I'm not great at this, I won't leave a girl to fend for herself. How about this: count your steps; every ten steps I take, you follow along. How does that sound?"
Hearing Bai Zhuo say this surprisingly gave Cao Yu a sense of security. She replied, "Okay, just... be careful."
"Ha ha! At least you have a conscience," Bai Zhuo chuckled and began walking deeper into the passageway. With each step he took, he counted aloud until he reached ten before stopping. Then Cao Yu would follow behind him, stepping cautiously on the cold dew and stumbling several times along the way.
She resembled a little dog afraid of getting lost, Bai Zhuo thought.
The two managed not to trigger any mechanisms or traps in the passageway. After an unknown amount of time had passed, Cao Yu finally couldn’t hold back any longer and called out, "Hey! I'm tired; can we take a break?"
Bai Zhuo also felt fatigued. "Alright, let’s rest here for a bit. By the way, my name is Bai Zhuo; I have a name."
Cao Yu sat down upon hearing this and asked, "Why is this passage so long? Can we... get out?"
"Don't lose hope," Bai Zhuo replied. "With all this dew, we must be close to the surface. We will definitely get out."
Of course, he couldn't tell Cao Yu that aside from the initial archaeological entrance and the escape route built by the craftsmen, there were no exits in this ancient tomb.
Cao Yu forced a response, saying to Bai Zhuo, "Thank you. Bai Zhuo."
"Uh... there's no need to thank me," Bai Zhuo said, feeling a bit uncomfortable with Cao Yu's sudden change in tone.
"No, I really need to thank you. If it weren't for you finding me, I would have died at the hands of that Zombie. And for blocking that fireball for me too—I'm indebted to you."
Bai Zhuo rubbed his nose and joked, "Haha, a hero saving a beauty! Just don't fall in love with me!"
"...Narcissistic," Cao Yu managed to mutter. Suddenly, Bai Zhuo said, "Shh~ Did you hear that?"
Cao Yu tensed up immediately and listened carefully. "It sounds like water?"
"Not good, it's coming our way!" Bai Zhuo could almost predict what would happen next. He rushed over and grabbed Cao Yu's hand, shouting, "Run!"
