"Mother, you wouldn't actually agree to this, would you?" Tengye Kikuko's expression was complex, as if she sensed something amiss.
Tengye Kikuko's Mother nodded slightly.
"Mother, how could you really agree? Even if you do, I won't marry him; I don't like him," Tengye Kikuko said loudly.
"Kikuko, you have no room to refuse," a middle-aged man with glasses and a cold expression spoke up. This man was Tengye Kikuko's father, Tengye Shi.
Tengye Shi was currently the decision-maker of the Tengye Family. He had two sons and two daughters, with Tengye Kikuko being his youngest daughter. As the head of the family, he was expected to consider the future and interests of the clan. Although he did not like Murata Kazuki, he was even less willing to offend him. Thus, he had no choice but to agree to let his daughter marry him.
Moreover, deep down, Tengye Shi was calculating that opposing Murata Kazuki would lead to no good outcome; it would be better to agree willingly and later rely on the Yagawa Association to elevate the family's status further.
"I'm going to the United States in a few days and won't be coming back; isn't that enough?" Tengye Kikuko shouted.
"Do you think that just because you go to the United States, everything will be fine? The Yagawa Association's influence in the United States is strong enough to make it impossible for you to stand on your own there. You have no options left, Kikuko. Besides, Murata Kazuki isn't so bad; although he's older, he's an official of the Yagawa Association. Marrying him wouldn't be a disgrace," Tengye Shi said calmly, his tone carrying a hint of finality.
"No, I absolutely refuse to marry him, even if it kills me," Tengye Kikuko erupted, her voice tinged with hysteria.
"Kikuko, do you want to endanger our entire Tengye Family? You should know how terrifying the Yagawa Association is. Our family doesn't have the strength to offend them; as a member of the Tengye Family, can't you think about what’s best for us?" Tengye Shi said sternly, fixing her with a serious gaze.
His words silenced Tengye Kikuko. She was part of the Tengye Family; she couldn't let her actions jeopardize them all. A woman in a large family, regardless of the country, could hardly escape the fate of being used for political marriage.
"What’s wrong?" Jiang Chen suddenly asked.
"Just now, Murata Kazuki threatened my parents to keep me away from you and said that within a week I must marry him. My parents have already agreed; I have no way out now. Perhaps this is my fate—just a sacrifice for my family," Tengye Kikuko sighed deeply, filled with sorrow.
"You don’t need to marry him; as long as I’m here, I won’t let you become a sacrifice for your family," Jiang Chen replied with a smile.
"If I don’t marry him, it will endanger my entire family; I can’t ignore their safety," Tengye Kikuko shook her head gently, feeling helpless and desperate.
"I told you that with me around, solving this problem is simple. I can just take care of Murata Kazuki in these few days; once he’s gone, you won’t have to marry him," Jiang Chen said casually.
Tengye Kikuko was taken aback and quickly advised him: "Mr. Jiang, even if your skills are impressive, you can’t kill someone! If you kill Murata Kazuki, people from the Yagawa Association will hunt you down relentlessly. I can’t let you face such huge trouble because of me."
"The Yagawa Association is nothing but a minor obstacle for me; it's not a problem at all. For now, just focus on being my translator these days; I won’t treat you unfairly," Jiang Chen said confidently, an aura of dominance emanating from him.
