Chapter 67: One Against Three
After Zhou Tong and the others had silently complained about Lian Yun a hundred times in their hearts, they each took a moment to rest and recover.
Once their wounds had nearly healed and the smell of blood had faded away, they finally stopped!
As dusk fell, Zhou Tong continued to lead the way.
After walking for a while, Zhou Tong suddenly asked, "If you were in Myriad Ghosts, what level could you reach?"
"I haven't encountered that before, so it's hard to say. But I suppose I would need to exert all my strength just to protect myself!"
The implication was that while there might be a chance for self-preservation, doing anything beyond that would likely be impossible.
Zhou Tong nodded and walked for a bit longer before asking again, "Is there any problem with facing three opponents at once?"
"We can give it a try! But I can't guarantee anything regarding Spirit Core or Nutrient Solution!" Lian Yun's eyes lit up, and there was a hint of excitement in his tone.
Jia Shuhua and the others immediately shot Lian Yun looks that could kill. The four of them were positioned differently; some turned their heads back, others twisted around, and one glared fiercely from behind.
This left Lian Yun feeling somewhat at a loss.
Zhou Tong, however, calmly nodded in response.
He led Lian Yun into a sewer. The six of them reached the middle of the sewer where there was a large hole in the wall.
Without hesitation, Lian Yun stepped forward but then turned back to Zhou Tong and said, "How about we team up this time?"
In Lian Yun's view, Zhou Tong was extraordinary. If he could sense the 'weakness' of the Evil Spirit, it would allow him to land decisive blows. Even if he couldn't predict accurately, he might still achieve a special killing sensation.
As long as he could secure enough instant kills and get a feel for it, perhaps he wouldn't need to think too much; he could have a seven or eight out of ten chance of instantly killing an Evil Spirit with just one strike.
However, ideals are often grand while reality is stark.
Zhou Tong cast a deep disdainful glance at Lian Yun but chose not to respond.
Lian Yun could only walk alone, filled with confusion and helplessness.
What Lian Yun did not know was that Zhou Tong actually wanted to collaborate with him, but he couldn't.
Zhou Tong and the other four members of his team were eager to witness Lian Yun's battle. However, if Zhou Tong were to watch Lian Yun fight, he might be unable to resist experiencing the overwhelming power of Lian Yun's combat.
In that case, he would suffer attacks as if being crushed by a giant rock or pierced by a thousand swords.
At that point, he couldn't even be sure if he would survive the injuries, let alone how he could cooperate with Lian Yun.
Nevertheless, Zhou Tong was quietly adapting.
He could sense a trace of Lian Yun's battle aura in the air. Under the premise of restraint, although he felt immense pressure and gloom each time, his capacity to endure was visibly increasing!
While Lian Yun's speed and strength could easily crush ordinary Evil Spirits, facing three opponents at once was still a significant pressure for him.
Thus, he cautiously advanced!
Until he felt three particularly sinister gazes upon him.
A Glow Stick was thrown forward, revealing three giant centipedes raising their heads. One of them even swallowed Lian Yun's Glow Stick, as if plunging them back into darkness.
Lian Yun's expression suddenly turned grave, and he took a few steps back but did not retreat far.
The Evil Spirits transformed from humans were mostly Lone Rangers, except for those belonging to matriarchal species.
Under normal circumstances, Evil Spirits acted alone, rarely gathering in groups of three or five. When they did appear in such numbers, especially within caves, it usually indicated one thing.
That was the continuous emergence of spiritual herbs and Spiritual Fruits in major Evil Spirit Cities over the past century.
The three Centipede Demons were likely guarding some kind of Spiritual Object.
However, Lian Yun couldn't feel any joy because of the Centipede Demons—
If Cockroach Demons were already terrifying, then Centipedes were even more extreme. Through genetic technology, they possessed the immortality traits of cockroaches; thus, each segment of their body could be considered an independent entity!
Once the head of the Centipede Demon was severed, all its limbs would automatically detach, transforming into dozens of Evil Spirits.
Thus, although there appeared to be only three Centipede Demons ahead, they could easily turn into dozens or even over a hundred Evil Spirits at any moment.
At that moment, Lian Yun suddenly recalled Zhou Tong's recent inquiry about what one could achieve within the Myriad Ghosts.
"That's quite ruthless!" Lian Yun thought to himself.
Evil Spirits guarded certain Spiritual Objects within a specific range; as long as one did not enter that range, the Evil Spirits would not attack humans or ghosts. Therefore, Lian Yun was not worried that the three centipedes would charge at him!
However, this was precisely the problem—being unable to lure them away meant he couldn't eliminate them one by one.
Suddenly, an ingenious plan struck Lian Yun's mind!
Feeling it was quite feasible, he immediately sprang into action!
Lian Yun took three Glow Sticks from his waist and rushed forward, tossing the three Glow Sticks into the air.
Sure enough, the three centipedes raised their heads to devour the Glow Sticks. In response, Lian Yun quickly channeled his Spiritual Energy, enveloping one side of Wu Tai's blade. He then leaped and delivered a horizontal slash at the neck of the centipede in the middle before landing and retreating hastily!
Screech! Screech! Screech!
The two remaining centipedes let out piercing shrieks, followed by a thunderous crash ahead of Lian Yun.
Soon after, two or three segments of the centipede came crashing toward him, propelled by their legs!
Lian Yun swiftly struck with three sword strikes, driving three segments of the centipede into the wall. He then charged forward and saw the remaining two centipedes desperately controlling the other detached limbs of their decapitated companion.
A triumphant smile spread across Lian Yun's face as he picked up a Glow Stick from the ground and poked at the head of the centipede before retreating immediately.
Initially, Lian Yun had feared that with the decapitated centipede's limbs thrashing about, they might inadvertently damage an unknown Spiritual Object. However, he suddenly realized that since there were three centipedes, the other two would surely do everything in their power to protect that Spiritual Object.
And thus, this clever plan was born.
The centipede in the middle was undoubtedly the strongest, so Lian Yun prioritized eliminating it. After severing its head, he took it as a precaution to prevent the other two centipedes from consuming the Spirit Core within, which would make them even more powerful.
After releasing the Deep Blue Light from three segments of the centipede's limbs, Lian Yun quietly waited.
However, the other two centipedes seemed to possess considerable intelligence, as they actually shot out some of their own limbs!
It appeared they were trying to divert attention.
This delighted Lian Yun!
He had initially worried that after consuming some limbs, the two centipedes would become stronger. To his surprise, they were offering him gifts instead.
Without hesitation, Lian Yun extracted all the Deep Blue Light from the limbs that had come out and stored it in his Box.
At the same time, he retrieved the first Glow Stick that had been consumed from one of the limbs. Once the darkness ahead returned to calm, Lian Yun surged forward once more!
