Chapter 174: Overcoming Difficulties
The two traps before entering the novice village were meant to raise awareness and caution, weren't they? Why does it now seem like one must disregard everything and charge forward fearlessly?
It truly reflects that saying: the heart of a ruler is ever-changing!
Understanding Yin Yang City is not something that can be accomplished in a day; it requires slow digging and careful contemplation.
After some hesitation, Lian Yun set down the four backpacks, took about ten bottles of elixirs, and then pushed open the stone door to step inside.
Upon entering, Lian Yun was greeted by a long staircase. The depths were unknown, shrouded in darkness as if leading straight to hell. As Lian Yun descended, torches along the stone walls lit up automatically. After descending about a hundred meters underground, a massive cave came into view.
With Lian Yun's arrival, a ring of Fire Basins illuminated the edges of the cave. In the center stood a striking Dragon Carved Stone Pillar, which bore a huge Fire Basin that lit up the entire cave as if it were daytime.
At the base of the pillar were ten formations, with eight formations of Stone Golems surrounding it. Each formation consisted of one hundred Stone Golems, totaling eight hundred arranged in a square around the pillar. In front of these eight formations were two squares of Horse-Drawn Carriages arranged in rows of five, making for thirty Horse-Drawn Carriages in total.
All made of stone—Terracotta Army.
"Is this my opponent?" Lian Yun gazed with a hint of terror at the immobile Terracotta Army formations.
Yin Yang City had three major troops: Zombies, Robots, and the Terracotta Army. Although the Terracotta Army was ranked last, indicating their relative weakness, everyone knew that the Terracotta Army in Yin Yang City was mostly composed of Immortal Bodies. Moreover, they possessed Earth Spirit abilities, granting them some control over the earth.
This was not mere propaganda; there were videos to prove it, widely recognized by all.
Given this, Lian Yun felt that no matter how strong he was, completing the task within ten attempts seemed impossible.
However, since this was indeed a mission, Lian Yun believed there must be a way to accomplish it. It was just that Yin Yang City's 'traps' were too numerous; without some clever thinking, finding a solution would be nearly impossible.
Lian Yun carefully observed the entire Cave.
The edges showed nothing particularly special, so Lian Yun could only focus on the Terracotta Army and the Dragon Carved Stone Pillar.
After watching for a while without discovering any secrets, Lian Yun decided to engage in battle first; perhaps he could uncover something during the fight.
As Lian Yun reached the edge of the Cave, ten Terracotta Army soldiers began to move in formation. They maintained equal distances between each other, forming a larger square formation, which exposed the stone pillar in the center.
When Lian Yun arrived at the bottom of the Cave, the foremost Horse-Drawn Carriage was practically in front of him, and the spacing between the formations allowed Lian Yun to easily reach the central stone pillar.
"Am I supposed to attack the stone pillar?" Lian Yun wondered.
Upon closer inspection of the central stone pillar, he noticed that its color was very similar to that of a Gray Spirit Coin.
This led him to think that perhaps the million Gray Spirit Coins from his mission were meant to be obtained by knocking down the pillar or chipping away some stones from it.
However, Lian Yun took a detour and positioned himself between two humanoid formations before attacking the Terracotta Army soldiers on either side. To his surprise, all of them remained completely unmoved and were surprisingly sturdy.
In videos online, while the Terracotta Army had an Immortal Body, their physical form was not particularly strong; typically, a full-force strike from an Intermediate Monarch could shatter them. Yet now, Lian Yun was using High-Level Monarch strength against these Terracotta Army soldiers, and they did not budge at all.
This left Lian Yun both astonished and suspicious that this might be some sort of mechanism.
Nevertheless, Lian Yun decided to try once more. He quickly approached the edge of the pillar and delivered a heavy strike aimed at it.
"Ding~~~"
A light chime echoed as the pillar proved as solid as diamond, showing no signs of a scratch. Instead, Lian Yun felt a jolt from his own force that caused pain in his hands as he staggered back three steps.
The Terracotta Army remained unmoved.
Could it be that they were to start from the front?
Lian Yun suddenly recalled the Old Village Chief's abrupt change in attitude when he accepted the mission. This task required nothing less than the courage to move forward fearlessly.
Perhaps it was about fighting without regard for everything else!
Lian Yun retreated outside the Cave to adjust, and as Lian Yun moved further away from the central stone pillar, the ten formations of the Terracotta Army slowly returned, eventually rearranging tightly around the stone pillar.
Once adjusted, Lian Yun descended back into the Cave and walked directly to the Horse-Drawn Carriage.
As Lian Yun cautiously stepped between the two formations of Horse-Drawn Carriages, they suddenly moved—one advancing forward and the other retreating—before both turned to face Lian Yun.
Although this was just their first movement, Lian Yun immediately sensed their next actions. Without hesitation, Lian Yun dashed toward the humanoid formation of the Terracotta Army.
Then, the humanoid formations on both sides also moved forward and backward, lowering their long spears as they charged toward Lian Yun.
In a split second, as the humanoid Terracotta Army advanced, Lian Yun had already reached beneath the stone pillar, while all ten formations of the Terracotta Army began to operate.
The two formations of Horse-Drawn Carriages circled around in two outer rings, racing in an interwoven pattern. The eight humanoid Terracotta Army soldiers merged into one unit, completely surrounding Lian Yun within the stone pillar.
As Lian Yijian was about to strike at the Dragon Carved Stone Pillar, eight hundred humanoid Terracotta Army soldiers faced the pillar, and then nine hundred long spears shot upward in a nearly overwhelming thrust toward Lian Yun.
At that moment, Lian Yun's only escape route was upwards.
Though the speed of the Terracotta Army was swift, Lian Yun still had enough reaction time. After striking the stone pillar with one sword swing, Lian Yun swept aside several long spears before being pushed back a couple of steps. Then, with a leap, Lian Yun utilized Spider-Man-like agility to soar out of the Cave.
After exiting, Lian Yun's expression was quite complex.
First of all, after he attacked the stone pillar, he received a prompt indicating that he had obtained Gray Spirit Coins.
He took a look at his personal attributes.
Name: Lian Yun.
Level: Thirty-nine
Money: Forty thousand three hundred Gray Spirit Coins.
Honor: None
Storage: One cubic meter.
Mission Gray Spirit Coins: Seventy out of one million.
The levels seemed to be divided according to strength, and for the mission Gray Spirit Coins, he had earned seventy Gray Spirit Coins with a single strike. It appeared to be highly efficient, but Lian Yun had indeed used all his strength.
Personally speaking, considering the recovery time, Lian Yun could only attack four to five hundred times at most, which meant he wouldn't even reach forty thousand Gray Spirit Coins.
