Chapter 15: Eye-Catching
Lian Yun's fame was largely due to the Yin-Yang Stage ability. However, to ordinary people, the Yin-Yang Stage was merely an impressive ability.
To those with great power, especially higher-level Monarchs, the Yin-Yang Stage represented a glimpse into the mysteries of the Emperor realm, a potential opportunity for them to break through to that level.
As a Peerless Monarch, the Insect Emperor quickly understood Lian Yun's identity, which was somewhat unsurprising.
This was also the reason why Lian Yun needed to change his appearance.
In Huaxia Land, no matter what, there was the protection of the Lin Clan, a massive family. Even if the Alliance High Command wanted to target Lian Yun, they would have to think twice. Moreover, the Huaxia Alliance had almost no Top Emperors, meaning their desire for the Emperor realm was not as intense at the moment.
However, they still found ways to make Lian Yun a slave to Xue Qiong, likely to avoid the Lin Clan's scrutiny and gain insight into Lian Yun's ability.
Now in Yin Yang City, even if Lian Yun had some Major Power protecting him, other Monarchs and even Half Emperors would not be overly concerned. As long as conditions were right and circumstances allowed, capturing and dissecting Lian Yun was entirely possible.
Despite only having interacted for a short time and being labeled as both righteous and wicked, Lian Yun found that while the Insect Emperor could be somewhat capricious, he was fundamentally straightforward—though a bit irritable.
Thus, in pursuit of first place and to gain the Insect Emperor's trust, Lian Yun took the risk of revealing his identity. Now seeing the Insect Emperor's reaction was somewhat exasperating but at least not entirely negative.
The Insect Emperor's gaze swept back and forth over Lian Yun for a while before noticing the general’s fiery glare. Reluctantly releasing Lian Yun, he grumbled, “Brat, you knew all along, didn’t you?”
“Of course! He’s my brother. But when I recognized him as my brother, he hadn’t yet earned the title of Cloud Emperor.”
The Insect Emperor was somewhat displeased but redirected his frustration toward Lian Yun. “So what’s your purpose in revealing your identity at this time?”
Being solitary yet living so freely indicated that the Insect Emperor’s intelligence was not merely superficial; he immediately sensed that Lian Yun must have an ulterior motive.
“It’s like this: once the battle begins later, I would like to ask Senior to create an opening for me,” Lian Yun said respectfully.
“An opening?” The Insect Emperor scoffed. How could that be possible? If it were an ordinary person, perhaps it could be considered; however, Lian Yun's strongest attacks clearly posed a threat to him. There was no way he would easily expose his back to Lian Yun.
Suddenly, he seemed to remember something and erupted in anger, shouting, "You scoundrel! How dare you treat me like an ATM? This is outrageous, absolutely outrageous! Hahaha!"
At first, the Insect Emperor was indeed furious, but by the end, it was hard to tell if he was laughing out of rage or something else entirely. He burst into a hearty laugh that lacked any chill.
"Such audacity! With your guts, you shouldn't even dare to show your face if you don't come in first."
This could be considered an agreement. Lian Yun smiled slightly and replied, "I will do my best."
The Insect Emperor nodded seriously and then pulled the general aside for a private conversation. Lian Yun paid little attention to them, sitting cross-legged with his eyes closed, contemplating and reflecting.
Meanwhile, in the Twelve Cities.
The Year Beast that refreshed in the Twelve Cities was not limited to the Central Square but encompassed the entire Famous City. Moreover, it did not require all beasts to be killed for a refresh; instead, they would respawn after a certain period following a kill. However, their locations were not fixed but appeared randomly. There was a pattern, though: the closer one got to the city center, the more frequently Elite Year Beasts appeared.
Additionally, not everyone had the right to enter the secret realm. Thus, within the central area of the city, most were ordinary Monarchs or kings with Monarch-level combat power.
However, with so many people around, competition became fierce. Even if one could swiftly kill an Elite Year Beast, finding them would consume considerable time. As a result, hardly anyone paid attention to the Ranking List; everyone was focused on tracking down the Year Beasts.
Moreover, being first didn't necessarily mean much; even if someone ranked first, it didn't signify anything substantial.
Yet during breaks, some couldn't help but be curious and made their way to the center of the Central Square where the Teleportation Array was located.
There, they saw a Gold-Silver Dual-Sided Leaderboard materializing above the Teleportation Array. The Silver Leaderboard displayed a list of kings without clear scores—just data bars. Xiao Jun ranked first, Bai Yun second; their data bars were nearly equal in length. The third place holder, Velus, had a data bar that was only two-thirds of Lian Yun's—an undeniable gap.
The people of Chang'an were astonished. Many had previously thought that the Insect Emperor was exaggerating; now they felt he had been modest. The notion of being guaranteed a spot in the top ten clearly indicated a rhythm toward being in the top three.
Given the current situation, even if Bai Yun rested for eight hours, Velus might not catch up.
However, this wasn't absolute since some individuals often only began to exert their strength in second or third place.
In contrast to Chang'an City, many from the other eleven Famous Cities were puzzled and wondered aloud: "Who exactly is Bai Yun? I've never heard of him before."
Some who had heard the news from newcomers two months ago felt a sense of shock upon hearing this name.
In Luoyang City, Ximen Qianlie stood behind a woman. His eyes were filled with humiliation, regret, unwillingness, and disbelief.
He, Ximen Qianlie, was someone who could command power in Huaxia with a mere flick of his hand. Now, he found himself reduced to being a bodyguard and enforcer for a woman, which was unbearable for him.
Initially, he thought that if this branch family still existed, he could easily take control of a faction upon his arrival and then pursue Lian Yun relentlessly. If it no longer existed, he would simply establish a new force.
However, upon arriving at this branch family, he realized that his understanding was completely mistaken. This branch actually possessed a Peerless Monarch who could almost dominate Huaxia.
Upon learning this news, his first thought was to return to Huaxia immediately and tear the Lin Family to shreds. However, he was not the head of this place; he wasn't even a member of the Xi Men Family.
Thus, he decided to stay and plot slowly.
He had thought that as an established Monarch, he should at least receive high-level treatment. Even if he wasn't part of the core family, he should have a status akin to that of an elder.
But what was the reality? He was merely a bodyguard and enforcer, and not even for the family head but for the head's granddaughter—serving two generations down.
