Chapter 71: The Origin of the Phoenix
Although the General understood that Meng Yixuan's future was important, her obsession with food was still somewhat difficult to comprehend. She did not delay but instead went to fetch some already prepared delicacies.
The so-called Phoenix Valley was located over five hundred miles south of the Xi Men Family's Fortress. After flying for more than two hundred miles, the group of five began to encounter some flying Chaos Beasts scattered along their path.
However, with the protection of the two powerful figures, Lian Yun and Xiao Jun, they safely arrived at the so-called Phoenix Valley without incident.
Phoenix Valley was a peculiar place, featuring a lake at its center and vibrant plants covering the ground. Above the ground, there were trees resembling flames, their fiery red trunks home to several Firebirds.
The scenery was strange; it lacked elegance but possessed an air of nobility.
"Are these the legendary Chinese parasol trees and fire phoenixes?" the General couldn't help but ask.
"The phoenixes are not quite right; they are merely Flame Sparrows. The Fire Crows have already been lured away by the Yama Palace Twelve Guards. As long as we do not provoke these Flame Sparrows, they will not attack us."
The five landed by the lakeside, where Xi Men Yu Ying spread out a carefully crafted grass mat and began to take out various utensils—tea tables, teapots, and cups.
The General started arranging food, which included large fish and meat as well as exquisite snacks, but Xi Men Yu Ying couldn't help but roll her eyes and say, "How vulgar."
"Mind your own business."
Xiao Jun landed and immediately sat down to meditate, while Yao Yun'er stood beside him. Meng Yixuan also sat down directly and took out the Hundred Birds Facing the Phoenix Guqin.
"By the way! I haven't asked how you obtained this ancient zither."
"It was a gift from Yun Di! There’s also a Jade Flute that I originally intended to give to my sister, but that Jade Flute is not as good as your Lingxiao."
"No way! You have to give it to me; you haven't given me any gifts yet. Lingxiao would be fine too; you must give it to me." Perhaps what mattered more to her was not the value of the gift but the friendship it represented.
Thus, Meng Yixuan took out the Jade Flute from her Spatial Bag and handed it to Xi Men Yu Ying. Xi Men Yu Ying joyfully accepted it and continued with her tasks.
As for Lian Yun, he had come out today just for leisure and had no other intentions. He did not sit down but wandered around a bit and returned with a bright red leaf he had picked up from the ground.
The four women looked at him with curiosity, seemingly surprised that Lian Yun could be so leisurely.
The atmosphere was relatively quiet as Xi Men Yu Ying prepared water for tea. The general had already started eating, Xiao Jun was in deep meditation, Yao Yun'er stood in silence, and Meng Yixuan, though not playing the piano, was gently resting her hand on the strings.
Lian Yun, however, was lying on the grass mat with the tip of a leaf between her teeth, her head resting on her hands as she gazed up at the sky with a carefree expression.
With a faint smile, she remarked, "It has only just occurred to me that since meeting Le Yan, I haven't had a moment of leisure."
Xi Men Yu Ying's gaze shifted curiously, seemingly pondering who Le Yan was. The other three felt little about it, but Meng Yixuan trembled slightly because she had sensed Lian Yun's deep feelings about her life.
The earlier times were somewhat better; although there had been no leisure, they were filled with joy and fulfillment. However, after turning thirteen, it became an endless struggle.
Sensing Meng Yixuan's emotions, Lian Yun did not rise but reached out to pat her arm. She could now afford to relax because she had let go of much from her past—more so than even before she turned thirteen.
This helped Meng Yixuan calm down, and she resumed playing the piano as if brewing a certain ambiance or perfecting her musical score.
Before long, Lian Yun caught a whiff of a pleasant aroma and sat up to look at Xi Men Yu Ying, ignoring the inviting glance she threw her way.
Previously, Lian Yun had only focused on making tea without any real knowledge of tea art. So with some rare free time on her hands, she wanted to observe Xi Men Yu Ying's skills. If she could learn something, it would allow her to prepare tea for her grandmother when she returned to the Land of Huaxia.
“May I ask Miss Ximen how one acquires the so-called Phoenix Tea leaves?” Even though her tea skills were lacking, finding the coveted Phoenix Tea leaves that even the Peerless Monarch yearned for would surely make for an excellent gift.
“Oh? I didn't expect Young Master Yun to have such an interest! If Young Master Yun desires it, Yuying can give some to you! As long as you let me have a taste,” Xi Men Yu Ying replied playfully.
Her demeanor while preparing tea had been somewhat pure, but this remark brought a mischievous tone to the air.
Lian Yun's expression stiffened as she replied awkwardly, “Let’s just forget about that!”
She had already prepared a gift and only wanted to offer more to her grandmother. If it couldn't be obtained, then so be it.
However, Xi Men Yu Ying seemed to have found an opening and insisted playfully, “Young Master Yun, don’t be in such a hurry! If the physical body won’t do, we can connect spiritually!”
Pfft~~~
Yao Yun'er nearly spat out blood! Her senior brother could connect spiritually with Lian Yun. Although the meanings of these two types of connections were vastly different, Yao Yun'er still felt an uncomfortable twist in her stomach.
Even Xiao Jun’s usually steady demeanor faltered for a moment.
Xi Men Yu Ying suddenly blinked her eyes in a somewhat silly manner, then softly said, "The request for the Phoenix, as the name suggests, is related to the Phoenix."
At this point, she abruptly stopped, as if there was something difficult to express.
Meng Yixuan turned around and looked at Xi Men Yu Ying with a hint of pity, then gently said, "Actually, what I want, the Hundred Birds Facing the Phoenix, is meant to help my sister out of her predicament."
"Hehe! Sister knew you had this thought, but it’s just that..." She first laughed and then appeared dejected.
"Can you clarify?" It wasn't out of gossip; rather, since it was her own sister wanting to help someone, Lian Yun wouldn't mind lending a hand if she could.
Xi Men Yu Ying paused for a moment, then seemed to have come to a realization as she nodded and said, "Grandpa Time found a seemingly gentle Companion Bird for me to play with. But for some reason, that Firebird formed a contract with me like a Ghost Slave. Later I realized it was actually a young Lustful Phoenix."
"As it continued to grow, I became increasingly lecherous. Although I once thought about refusing, I instinctively indulged myself."
"Eventually, I felt that even if I couldn't resist, I might as well give in. However, I also decided that not just anyone could touch my body. So I set a rule for myself: only those young talents with fame and strength could mingle with me."
"Although that Phoenix is lustful, its sweet fragrance has the effect of uplifting one's spirit. And while that Lustful Phoenix is merely a junior Monarch, its lustful fire is something even my grandfather's Peerless Monarch cannot approach; only I can get close enough to obtain its sweet fragrance."
