Watching the flames reflect a red glow in Alice's eyes, Ye Kai couldn't help but admit that the heroine exuded an undeniable charisma, embodying the very essence of a hero.
Although he could have taken down that Licker himself, it would have been thanks to the divine cheat that made it possible.
As he observed Alice's astonishing marksmanship and her shapely legs, he found himself increasingly impressed. She truly deserved her status as the popular female lead in Biochemical. Despite her modest bust, Ye Kai was genuinely satisfied with Alice as a woman.
Just then...
Jill crushed the charred remains of the Licker beneath her foot. Glancing at this suddenly emerging woman who had effortlessly dispatched the monster that had cornered them, she felt a surge of resentment. "Who the hell are you?"
Ye Kai understood why she was so irate.
It was akin to two stunning women in the same class, both equally captivating and possessing enviable figures. But suddenly, one of them blossomed overnight into an astonishing beauty. How could there not be jealousy and competition?
In this world, for Jill Valentine, even though she was a member of S.T.A.R.S. and possessed exceptional skills, at her core, she was still a woman.
As long as she was a woman, it was impossible for her to feel any goodwill toward another woman who appeared to be slightly more accomplished than herself. This had nothing to do with anything else; it was simply the natural rivalry among beautiful women—what one might call same-sex repulsion.
The jealousy among women is utterly devoid of reason!
Moreover, perhaps Jill herself hadn’t noticed that when a powerful man suddenly appeared, providing her with immense security, the emergence of another woman who seemed superior would inevitably trigger feelings of insecurity.
Though she might not consciously recognize this thought, it remained true.
Unfortunately, it seemed they could no longer stay in this church.
Ye Kai shrugged; while he wasn't afraid of zombies or Lickers, he certainly didn't want to deal with the flames raging throughout the hall this week.
Alice's recent display of fierce action had likely startled all nearby zombies. They might even think it was the dinner bell ringing for them!
"Oh, come eat me!"
"There's meat here..."
Suddenly, almost everyone stopped and just stared at Ye Kai.
Jill couldn't help but roll her eyes at him. "Can't you be a bit more of a gentleman and take care of the ladies?"
"Oh, oh, oh!"
Ye Kai suddenly realized he had been talking to himself and got caught. He scratched his head and smiled sheepishly. "Well, you are all female heroes, and I'm just a Clerical Staff. Although you can't deny that I'm a man, I haven't lifted anything heavy since I was a kid..."
Seeing Jill's unfriendly gaze fixed on him, he suddenly shouted, "Ye Yi, Ye Er, hurry up and come over here! I can't let all this food and drink I've prepared go to waste; pack it all up!"
Alice raised an eyebrow, a slight smirk appearing on her lips as she spoke in her uniquely raspy yet somewhat seductive voice. "And who are you again?"
Suddenly...
"You... you all..."
Ye Kai laughed, feeling quite pleased with himself. He shook his shoulders, lifted his chin slightly, and spoke with a hint of arrogance. "So, how about it, beautiful? Are you scared? Let me tell you, these two are my bodyguards; I rescued them from the lab. They are mine..."
"They... they are infected with the virus too?" Alice's voice trembled with hatred, anger, and a hint of crazed murderous intent.
Everyone was taken aback by this revelation, especially Terry. "Ye, when were you planning to tell us your bodyguards were infected? Don't you know how dangerous they are? My goodness!"
"Oh, what are we even doing in this godforsaken place?" Terry was clearly agitated by Alice's words. Now noticing their surroundings, he began shouting again. "Hey? Am I the only one who notices we're in a graveyard?"
At that moment, even Ye Kai couldn't be bothered to pay attention to the female reporter; she truly was beyond sympathy.
"What is that?" Alice suddenly asked, noticing the temperature-controlled box that Ye Yi was holding.
"What else could it be? It's the antidote for the virus!" Ye Kai shrugged nonchalantly and turned back with a playful grin.
Everyone had seen the antidote in Ye Kai's hands. Although they were excited, relieved that they wouldn't have to fear being bitten again, they had no intention of interrupting the conversation between the two, remaining vigilant about their surroundings.
Unfortunately, all the zombies in the area had already been dealt with by Ye Yi.
Alice fixed her cold gaze on Ye Kai and asked in a low voice, "Where did you get your virus antidote?"
Her icy demeanor and tense posture indicated that Alice was ready to take action. It was clear that if Ye Kai mentioned anything about Umbrella Corporation, she would not hesitate to strike hard.
Ye Kai felt a pang of anxiety. Damn it!
This woman was not one to show mercy. Just recalling how fiercely she had dealt with that supervisor after boarding the plane made it clear how deeply she loathed Umbrella Corporation.
If he didn't explain himself well, it wouldn't be surprising if she pulled out a gun and shot him right then and there.
He felt a bit uneasy, but his expression remained cheerful as he casually replied, "To tell you the truth, I'm not an ordinary person. I once hacked into Umbrella Corporation's internal network; I know quite a bit about their experiments..."
"Swish!"
Alice drew her gun and aimed it directly at Ye Kai's forehead, gritting her teeth as she said with venom, "Right now, immediately, tell me the truth."
"Alright, alright!"
Ye Kai sighed, raising his hands in a gesture of helplessness. His tone was heavy as he said, "If you can see the difference between Ye Yi and Ye Er, can you not see something wrong with my body?"
Alice stared at him for a moment, as if trying to discern his true nature. Finally, she lowered her gun, allowing Ye Kai to breathe a sigh of relief. After all, Alice wasn't the type to go on a killing spree.
"The Umbrella Corporation has many studies and experiments, but you should know that not all of these experiments can be conducted solely on mice and similar creatures..."
His deep voice suddenly silenced the entire team.
Although Ye Yi was leading the way ahead, nearly everyone's attention was focused on him.
Waving his hand vigorously as if to dispel all the painful memories, Ye Kai continued, "I was born into a wealthy family, but when I was ten years old, someone took me to a laboratory. Even my two bodyguards were knocked out and brought inside."
"Inside, there was white light everywhere. That terrifying white light felt like... like a cold hell..."
As he slowly recounted his story in that somber tone, an overwhelming sense of fear enveloped everyone. It was hard to imagine what kind of terror and coldness a ten-year-old child would endure in such a laboratory.
The horrific experiments lasted for over a decade...
Almost everyone felt as if they were losing their minds; their hearts softened and ached. The man before them, who seemed like a carefree big boy, had such a horrifying past!
After enduring years of repeated torment through those experiments, he could still face the world with a smile, burying all the dirty, terrifying fears deep within his heart. What incredible strength that showed!
Suddenly, Jill felt a pang of sympathy.
It turned out that this man who always teased her with a smile had such a dreadful childhood.
He had always lived with hope!
Beneath the image of that carefree Young Master, there lay such loneliness, fear, and despair...
No wonder he never stopped talking; no wonder he always sought conversation. No wonder when he first saw me, he exclaimed...
"Hey, there's someone here!"
His expression, which seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, carried a tone that appeared to be complaining but was actually joyful: "Look, there's someone here! How nice! I'm almost driven mad by those Idiots who only know how to scream."
"Ye Yi, go close the door. Be careful and make sure it's secure."
"Ye Er, hurry up and bring out some food. I'm starving! How can this wretched place look like this after just two days?"
What did he mean by "there's someone here"?
What did he mean by "how nice it is to see someone"?
Why did he want Ye Yi to close the door securely and emphasize it?
Why did he say those things upon our first meeting and ask, "How can the world look like this after just two days?"
What kind of pain had this man endured? What kind of trials had he faced? What unbearable loneliness had driven him to this state?
His life over the past decade had been nothing but a series of experiments, each day passing through a terrifying process...
Jill was bewildered.
She realized that she seemed to have just come to understand the man before her. Those seemingly broad shoulders appeared so lonely and helpless, like a child constantly seeking the attention of an adult.
Perhaps only in this way could he prove that he was still alive!
He was truly too lonely!
She really wanted to step forward, gently embrace him, and whisper in his ear, "You are safe now, relax, just relax a little..."
Not just her; Alice felt the same. She was captivated by the man who squinted his eyes and wore a faint smile. She was also very curious about what kind of survival had allowed him to endure for so many years.
More than a decade of being a test subject—it was simply hell, no, it was an experience even more terrifying than hell!
Alice watched the man who occasionally turned back to smile at everyone, clenching her fists tightly and gritting her teeth. She understood all too well the desolation and fear of being a test subject.
She struggled to suppress herself, terrified that she might not be able to hold back her tears.
She had sworn to completely eradicate Umbrella Corporation; otherwise, she would never rest.
And now, she had another reason: to avenge all those who had suffered at the hands of Umbrella Corporation!
Revenge!
