After Five.
"Awoo..."
Hearing the commotion and roars outside, Ye Kai finally opened his eyes and looked at Ariel, who wore a similar expression of delight. They exchanged glances and simultaneously opened the door, stepping outside.
At that moment, the guards at the entrance had already left, which saved them quite a bit of trouble.
Originally, Ye Kai had intended to quietly follow Lucien to find the cave hidden with hundreds of Alpha Wolves, hoping to earn some rewards. However, he now had to put that plan on hold.
Because he was about to discover what this witch, Ariel, was truly up to.
They stood once again in the Castle Council Hall.
As they walked through, nearly all the Vampire Knights they encountered ignored them completely, which made Ye Kai regard the witch beside him, shrouded in black smoke, with newfound respect.
Standing in the now empty hall, Ye Kai raised an eyebrow and chuckled lightly. "Dear Ariel, shouldn't we get started? Victor could return at any moment."
"Don't worry, it will be quick... very quick..."
Ariel paid no heed to Ye Kai's teasing; instead, her face grew serious. Her voice suddenly became hoarse and deep as she began to chant an incomprehensible incantation that sounded both like a roar and a song.
"Shh shh!"
Tendrils of black smoke slithered out from her body like living serpents, swirling around the hall—on the walls, the ceiling, and beneath their feet.
Only within a three-meter radius around Ye Kai did no black smoke dare to approach.
Just as he was growing impatient, he suddenly heard Ariel exclaim in surprise, "I found it."
Immediately after, Ariel, visibly excited, hurried toward the highest point in the hall, the Stone Throne, where she began to carve something in mid-air.
"Whoosh!"
A puff of green smoke suddenly erupted from beneath the seat. Ye Kai took a step back, frowning as he watched. The throne shifted aside to reveal a blood-red Pentagram Array.
Uncertain of what the woman had done, the Pentagram Array suddenly emitted a blinding red light. In an instant, a beam shot upward, striking a deep blue gem at the top of the hall, which then reflected the light onto another gem above the main entrance.
In the blink of an eye, after refracting seven or eight times, the beam finally formed a dazzling pentagram in the center of the hall, causing the ground to undulate like ocean waves.
Mysterious patterns, carvings, and runes instantly lit up, enveloping the entire hall.
"Sakhalu, Kusena, Machi, Maya, Wukuluchi..."
A grand and resonant female voice suddenly echoed throughout the hall, leaving Ye Kai startled and confused. He couldn't understand a word but felt an incredibly profound darkness enveloping the entire space. Then, a fiery door burst open from within the pentagram.
"Quickly! We need to leave before someone discovers us!" Ariel's feet were engulfed in black smoke as she glided forward like she was skating on ice, disappearing into the fiery portal.
'Interesting!'
'The witchcraft in this world is truly fascinating!'
Ye Kai's eyes lit up with excitement. Without hesitation, he followed closely behind Ariel and stepped through the door. In an instant, the entire hall returned to its original state as if nothing had ever happened.
However, just as calmness was restored and both runes and arrays shattered into sparks of light, a burst of flames erupted out of nowhere, revealing a woman with a pale face clad in black robes, exuding an aura of evil.
"Damn it, she got ahead of me again..."
"Flap, flap, flap..."
A flurry of wingbeats filled the air as hundreds of palm-sized bats suddenly swooped into the hall. They circled around before colliding together, transforming into an elegantly dressed nobleman in a classic tailcoat.
"Ariel got there first again?"
"I won't let her succeed this time; I must get that thing!!!"
"Don't be anxious, Meryl. Isn't it good to let her scout the way for us?"
...
"Tap, tap, tap..."
Ye Kai watched the witch walking ahead, his brow furrowing slightly. After entering a spacious underground space, they continued down a stone staircase without pause, soon arriving at a peculiar Sacred Hall.
The hall was cylindrical in shape. In one corner, blending with the wall, there was a stone door. The moment he stepped through the door, he saw a series of black stone steps tightly hugging the walls, accompanied by a ring of luminous white handrails.
This place was also a cylindrical shaft.
Looking down, apart from the glow of the white handrails, he could see nothing but an endless staircase stretching into darkness, as if this cylindrical shaft led straight to hell, sending chills down his spine.
Looking up, the entrance they came through was merely a hole.
The entire spiral staircase twisted in a clockwise direction, winding around and around.
Strangely, Ye Kai noticed that the stone steps and the handrails emitting a pale white glow were surrounded by bizarre and inexplicable patterns on the walls.
There were even some exquisite reliefs. Suddenly, his gaze shifted to the finely carved patterns on the left wall. From this point on, it seemed that these relief patterns began to change.
Not only were there designs on the handrails, but even between the stone steps and the handrails, various strange lines started to appear.
‘What a pity that the deity cannot come out, and the Multifunctional Detector cannot be used. Otherwise, these things would surely provide valuable data!’
Ye Kai sighed inwardly and then moved forward again.
The two of them walked in a line, with Ariel moving at a leisurely pace. As she walked ahead, the hem of her cloak occasionally fluttered behind her, and faintly, a delicate fragrance seemed to waft through the air.
Upon catching this elusive scent, Ye Kai's Dual Eyes suddenly focused.
“Now that we are here, we must be cautious. If my inheritance is correct, there should be some hallucinogenic flowers around here. Without an antidote, no matter how many people enter, they will only meet their doom.”
Ariel, walking slowly in front, chuckled softly, “Ye Kai, do you need help?”
“Ha, no need for your assistance. Let’s go!” Ye Kai replied with a smile.
The two continued to descend in circles. What lay before them was an unchanging scene. If it weren't for their abilities and formidable strength, this place would truly evoke feelings of despair.
If he didn’t occasionally look up to see the increasingly distant red stone door, he might have thought he hadn’t moved far at all and was merely spinning in place.
He didn’t know how long they had been walking—perhaps over half an hour or maybe one or two hours.
After growing somewhat impatient, Ye Kai looked up again. The red stone door was now completely out of sight; apart from a faint white glow, all that remained was an expanse of darkness.
Suddenly, after descending a few more steps, a strange sight appeared. Next to the handrail, there were several one-foot-square depressions sealed with crystal, and looking up, it seemed there was a glowing blue light inside.
"Bang!"
Out of nowhere, an ugly creature resembling a mutated fish, as if it had been exposed to radiation, discovered him and slammed against the Crystal Wall.
"Ugh!"
Although startled by the disgusting thing, Ye Kai didn't pay much attention to it. Instead, after taking a few more steps down, he encountered an even more grotesque six-legged two-headed toad, repeatedly slamming its slimy tongue against the Crystal Wall.
'This is so disgusting!'
Ye Kai felt a bit irritated. If it weren't for the strange energy emanating from the center of the passage, he would have flown down already.
Moreover, the temperature here was dropping rapidly; he could see his breath turning into puffs of white mist.
Watching the witch ahead of him continue her leisurely pace, he felt somewhat dissatisfied.
