In the slightly sunken, flat area of Miren City, a few members of Beiman stood alert, scanning their surroundings as if on guard against something.
“Puff!”
With the emergence of a burst of flames, a small fireball the size of a palm quickly appeared through the misty haze.
“Olyxet, this is bad! Look, those strange firebirds are back!” Haigema's pale face was filled with sheer terror.
At the moment the firelight appeared, Beiman shouted, “Go fetch the horses and prepare the carriage; we need to leave!”
Ferson, his old partner, was the first to respond, leaping onto his horse without hesitation and leading the way forward.
“Boom!!!”
As soon as he finished speaking, the entire forest seemed to tremble as if an earthquake had struck. A violent gust of wind tore through the mist, shattering nearly twenty fireballs nearby.
Even the surrounding trees, as thick as an arm, were blown apart by invisible forces, leaving everyone in shock.
“You go calm them down; I’ll handle these things. It’s a good opportunity to test out Rune Barrier and dispel magic!”
Ye Kai said to Nerun with a relaxed smile. He then stomped on the ground and propelled himself high into the air using a resilient tree trunk. From his hand, he shot out six thumb-sized crystal pillars.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
With several muffled sounds, the crystal pillars erupted from the ground, creating six dazzling beams of light that converged at a point several meters high before exploding with a thunderous roar, showering down a layer of soft Radiance.
As the moment to brush through the storyline and build character affinity approached, Ye Kai felt a surge of pride within, though his expression remained solemn as he formed a hand seal and shouted, "Eternal Radiance of the Breaking Magic Spell!!!"
"Buzz!!!"
At that instant, the entire barrier erupted with endless Radiance, appearing from a distance like a sun gradually rising, radiating dazzling light.
Not only did it disperse the thick fog, but it also shattered hundreds of fireballs transformed into black-red birds.
"Ding!!"
Dibearzagg saw a light arrow aimed at the witch in the cage being shattered by Beiman and couldn't help but roar in anger, "What are you doing? Don't you know she is about to face judgment?"
"My friend, please calm down. Regardless of whether this girl is a Demon Witch or not, we must take her to the Monastery!" Beiman spoke calmly.
No one knew that at this moment, Beiman's heart was already stirred by turbulent waves; this was truly a pure arrow of condensed light.
Moreover, anyone capable of producing such a concentrated light arrow was almost without exception someone who was genuinely selfless and possessed unwavering faith—absolutely incapable of wantonly killing the innocent.
However, they had already promised to deliver this 'girl' to the Monastery, so they had to follow through.
"Well, I just wanted to see what she looks like after transforming; maybe she's a Goat-Head Demon!" Ye Kai shrugged nonchalantly when he realized his sneak attack was futile.
Suddenly, a faint sound came from afar.
In an instant, Ye Kai's body vanished from its original spot and transformed into a shadow as he and Nerun rushed back in the direction they had come from.
The two figures nearly arrived simultaneously before the group struggling to evade the Black-Red Bird. With a loud explosion, dozens of palm-sized flames were shattered by the two in an instant.
The exploding flames not only failed to harm anyone but also sent the surrounding fireballs flying away.
"Brother Ye, I'm so glad you're back!" Wen Changqing, who had been filled with anger and fear, let out a long sigh of relief, nearly collapsing onto the ground.
These seemingly fragile fireballs were not to be underestimated. After just two encounters, he realized that his stamina was nearly depleted, yet he hadn't managed to slay a single Crimson-Black Monster Bird.
All the seasoned fighters stood on the outskirts, vigilantly watching the fireballs retreat into the mist, their expressions growing increasingly grave. They did not believe these monsters would give up easily.
Ye Kai frowned. It was not wise to remain passive here. Although he knew everything was definitely related to the Demon Witch sitting in the covered prison cart, he hesitated to act again.
After all, his previous ambush had already been thwarted by Beiman. If he were to strike again, his earlier efforts might be rendered futile.
After calming everyone down, he stepped forward a few paces and addressed Beiman and Dibearzagg: "My barrier can only hold for one hour, and ten minutes have already passed. Everyone needs to rest quickly; we must move on soon. We have no idea how many more strange things are lurking in the shadows."
Everyone understood the urgency of the situation and gained a renewed respect for Ye Kai's strength. They nodded in agreement and began to rest in place.
"May I ask why you don't just kill me?" Suddenly, a corner of the prison cart's curtain was lifted, revealing a beautiful, unadorned face.
Two gem-like blue Dual Eyes stared intently at Ye Kai and Nerun, filled with endless sorrow and helplessness that made one's heart tremble.
"Don't look into her eyes, and don't believe anything she says!" Dibearzagg suddenly shouted anxiously.
"What a strange charm! Such powerful Mental Power!" Ye Kai's pupils contracted as he inhaled sharply.
He truly hadn't expected that this demon from the Original Work would be so formidable; her pitiful appearance of helplessness nearly deceived him.
"Why won't you believe what your eyes see? I'm just an ordinary girl!" Anna, possessed by the demon, looked up with glistening tears in her eyes. Her trembling form stirred a protective instinct within most of them.
“Clang!!!”
Ye Kai wasted no time; the daggers in his hands clashed together, sending sparks flying. In an instant, he retreated, choosing the direction where Wen Changqing was located, and delivered a sharp slap to his forehead.
“Idiot, wake up!!!”
With a crisp sound, a red handprint immediately appeared on Wen Changqing's forehead. He grimaced in pain, but his eyes quickly regained their usual sharpness. He jumped up indignantly and exclaimed, “Brother Ye, that was too harsh! If I end up brain-dead, you’ll have to take care of me for the rest of my life!”
“Boom!!”
Just as everyone was jolted awake and realized their backs were soaked with cold sweat, the entire barrier shook violently. A massive shadow suddenly burst forth from the right side of the forest and slammed into the Light Screen barrier.
Although the shadow was bounced back, kicking up clouds of dust from the ground, the tremor still sent a shiver through everyone present.
“Don’t interfere; let me handle this!” Ye Kai raised his right hand, signaling Wood and Wen Changqing to stay out of it. He then nodded at Nerun.
“Do as you wish.” Nerun shrugged nonchalantly; he didn’t want to fight anymore. These monsters were tougher than they looked, and he knew they had all sorts of strange tricks up their sleeves.
“Don’t take too long.” Wood frowned. While he understood that hidden side quests could be valuable, he also recognized that the danger was very real!
