Living Funeral
This mortuary was similar in nature to the funeral home where I worked, and I couldn't help but gasp, suddenly feeling a chilling sensation wash over me.
Gao Qing suggested that we mix garlic with glutinous rice powder and see if it had any effect.
I agreed, saying we should first catch the person.
"Alright," Gao Qing replied, then called out for Hua. His voice echoed in the space, but there was no response. The mortuary was quite large, with freezers lined up separately. As Gao Qing and I walked through, the silence was eerie, making each footstep sound like a drumbeat in my heart. My palms were sweating coldly.
Was Hua deliberately leading me here?
Could it be that the patterns had something to do with the mortuary?
Or perhaps Brother Li was here? Damn it, was Brother Li really dead or not?
At that moment, I was filled with anxiety and confusion!
In this mortuary where only the dead lay, we wandered back and forth, continuously calling Hua's name, but received no reply.
The coldness was palpable; even when I exhaled, I could see my breath in the beam of the flashlight…
All that could be heard were our footsteps echoing against the floor with a "thud thud thud," each sound breeding a sense of terror.
Suddenly, Gao Qing said to me, "Let's split up and search."
I let out a sound of agreement, saying, "Okay," but I still warned Gao Qing to be careful. Gao Qing replied, "You too."
I nodded, and then we began to search separately.
Although it was summer, the temperature in the Mortuary was still slightly low. After we parted ways, a few minutes later, I heard a sound of metal scraping.
It was the sound of the Freezer being pulled out in the Mortuary. Could someone have opened the Freezer?
I slowly approached the source of the sound.
The flashlight illuminated a small area in front of me.
Soon, I arrived at the spot where the metallic noise was coming from, but upon reaching there, I couldn't help but gasp in shock. A chill ran down my spine, and I felt an unsettling sensation wash over me...
Because I saw Hua with blood all over his mouth, holding an eyeball in his hand, which was dripping with blood.
Then, right before my eyes, Hua swallowed it whole...
I swear, I almost threw up at that moment... But I held it back and called out to Hua, asking, "What are you doing?"
A wave of bloody scent filled the air as I covered my mouth and nose with my hand and chased after Hua.
But Hua quickly ran away again.
I rushed forward, but after just a few steps, Hua vanished from my sight. I returned to the Freezer and glanced at the body inside. After a quick look, I immediately turned away, as the corpse was beyond recognition.
One face was almost torn to shreds...
Sweat beaded on my forehead, and I wiped it away with my hand.
Darkness enveloped me, and the light in front of me struggled to dispel it, but it was utterly futile. Along with the darkness came a palpable sense of fear.
My heart sank further, and unease settled in.
I pushed the cabinet aside, and it was then that Gao Qing's voice reached me. Gao Qing asked if I had found anything.
I reported honestly.
Based on the direction Hua had run, I informed Gao Qing that it seemed she had gone that way.
I made this reminder to alert Gao Qing to be cautious.
Just moments ago, I had witnessed Hua devouring a person's eyes, and that face had been left unrecognizable. Just thinking about it sent chills down my spine! It was terrifying beyond measure.
My heart felt like it was lodged in my throat, and I was still carrying the backpack containing the Urn.
I searched around again but found nothing; all I could hear were Gao Qing's footsteps.
I asked, "Gao Qing, have you found anything?"
Gao Qing replied, "Nothing at all."
Damn it, this isn't a way to search! The height of the freezer is too much; I can't see into the Mortuary at all!
My breathing quickened as images of the gruesome scene from earlier flashed through my mind, blood-soaked and utterly disgusting.
After a moment, I called out, "Hua, I know you're here. Did you bring me here to tell me something?"
I spoke to Hua, but received no response.
Just then, my phone suddenly rang.
It was Gao Ling calling. I pressed the answer button, and Gao Ling said, "Fei, where are you guys right now?"
I was about to tell Gao Ling our location when a chilling laughter echoed in my ears—"kekeke." I immediately turned around and saw a figure crouched on top of the freezer, its posture resembling that of a toad.
I froze for a moment while Gao Ling continued shouting from the other end of the line, asking where I was.
My thoughts stalled for a few seconds; I wanted to run, but it was too late. The figure lunged toward me.
My phone fell to the ground.
I stumbled backward, but fortunately, Freezer was behind me, and since Hua wasn't very heavy, I managed to steady myself.
Hua opened his mouth and lunged at me. Damn it, I quickly raised my hand to block his head.
At that moment, my phone had hit the ground, the flashlight was gone, and only the faint light from the phone screen remained.
I tried my best to shake this guy off, but I couldn't succeed; he clung to me like an unshakeable adhesive bandage.
He bared his teeth, his face twisted in a grimace, making strange noises as he bit at me.
His strength was surprisingly great; for a moment, I thought I wouldn't be able to hold on. Just then, I heard a voice in my ear urging me to use blood pressure against him.
The voice sounded somewhat old, but at that moment, I couldn't worry about that. My life was the priority; if I lost it, there would be nothing left to do.
I took a deep breath, quickly pulled out one hand, and then changed the position of the other hand to brace my elbow against Hua's chin.
Suddenly, Hua let out a cackling laugh that made my heart race. I felt cold sweat soaking my back.
Ignoring the pain, I bit down hard enough to break the skin on my finger. The phrase "use blood pressure" hung in my mind, but I didn't know how to apply it!
Then I remembered the method Zhang Xun had taught me. I quickly wrote the word “Decree” on Hua's face with my hand.
In the next moment, Hua suddenly let out a ghostly scream and was flung away.
I saw a faint red light disappear before my eyes, unsure if it was just an illusion. At that moment, Gao Qing's footsteps landed perfectly.
After hitting the ground, Hua quickly jumped away like a nimble monkey.
It seemed that Hua had not been injured after all.
Gao Qing quickly chased after him. I had intended to remind Gao Qing to be careful, but by the time I thought of it, he had already vanished.
All I could hear were the sounds of their footsteps chasing each other. Gao Qing's skills were superior to mine; he probably didn't need my warnings.
I was still shaken at that moment.
Feeling dazed, I wiped the sweat from my forehead and picked up my phone, only to find that the call had ended.
Why was Hua always targeting me?
Damn it, did Hua lure me here just to make it easier to attack me?
I picked up my phone and listened for the footsteps before heading over. I was also worried about Gao Qing; Hua Zhongxie's methods were truly ruthless.
Just then, Gao Ling's call came in again.
I turned to Gao Ling and said, "We're at the Mortuary in the hospital."
Gao Ling asked how things were going, but I didn't have time for small talk, so I told her to come on her own.
After hanging up the phone, I called out to Gao Qing. When I heard her voice in response, I felt a bit more at ease.
Following the sound, I walked towards Gao Qing.
Once we met up, Gao Qing exclaimed, "Why is your face covered in blood?"
I replied that it was all Hua's doing; it seemed like he wanted to kill me.
Gao Qing asked why.
I sighed and said, "Maybe it's because of that pattern."
Hua Zhongxie was incredibly agile now, making it difficult to catch him.
But just as I finished speaking, Gao Qing said something that caught my attention: "Just wait until later..."
