Living Funeral
I felt a chill run down my back and immediately turned around, only to find Yu standing behind me, staring at me.
I was startled by the sudden appearance.
I glanced at Yu, but she showed no reaction.
I asked, "Is there something you need?"
Gao Qing walked over to me and said, "You don't need to worry about her. Go inside and write what you wrote that night with your blood. Remember to write it in the center in front of the bed."
I nodded and quickly followed Gao Qing's instructions.
Yu tilted her head to peek inside but remained expressionless, lost in thought.
Eventually, she wandered downstairs in a daze.
Gao Ling asked, "What happened to Yu just now?"
Gao Qing replied irritably, "She's surrounded by death energy and still dares to come here."
Gao Qing's tone was somewhat harsh, and Gao Ling remarked, "What a torment!"
I soon finished writing as Gao Qing instructed. Once everything was set, Gao Qing allowed us to leave and then closed the door behind us.
The room was filled with smoke. However, the door was firmly shut.
"Gao Qing said, 'Let's wait until tonight.'"
"Gao Ling thought to herself that Gao Qing's skills were indeed impressive. It seemed that she was starting to respect him a bit. With her parents out on errands and only Gao Qing accompanying them, it was likely for this very reason."
"After the door was closed, we headed downstairs."
"Yue sat on the sofa, not saying a word, but occasionally glancing towards the direction of her room."
"Time passed quickly, and before we knew it, it was dark outside."
"Even in the darkness, Gao Qing had yet to make a move."
"The housekeeper at Uncle Cao's place had already gone to prepare dinner. Gao Ling finished her meal without delay, and Gao Qing had no objections."
"However, I felt something was off with Yue. She kept stealing glances at me, though her gaze was cold."
"During dinner, Yue's parents called her to join them."
"Throughout the meal, it seemed like Yue couldn't swallow a single bite. She kept pushing her food around but the bowl remained full."
"When Gao Qing arrived, he had already prepared everything that needed to be done; all that was left was for the right moment to come."
"We waited anxiously."
"While we were eating, Uncle Cao asked us, 'Do you think this matter can be resolved peacefully?'"
"Gao Qing said, 'Please don't worry.'
Gao Ling echoed, 'You can rest assured; taking money to help others is what we do.'
I remained silent, completely unsure of what to say. My eating habits were already slow, but in the next moment, she suddenly looked up towards the top of the stairs.
Then she pointed with her chopsticks; this subtle gesture was noticed only by me.
I followed the direction of her chopsticks and looked up, spotting a young boy standing at the end of the staircase on the second floor.
My expression changed immediately, turning somewhat grim.
However, Yu made a 'shh' gesture towards me, clearly indicating that I should not go out. I looked at Yu; it was the first time I had seen a pleading expression on her face.
At that moment, the lights in the room all turned on, illuminating the boy who stood in the light. His face was pale, yet he was exceptionally handsome.
I glanced at him a few times before averting my gaze.
I didn't tell them about him; it was my way of honoring Yu's plea.
At that moment, Gao Ling asked me, 'What are you looking at?' and then glanced towards the hallway.
But clearly, she saw nothing at all.
I had thought Gao Ling could see him too, but in reality, she could not."
"Gao Ling asked me, and I replied that I hadn't seen anything, then buried my head in my meal.
Suddenly, I started to believe Gao Qing's words—that it was Yu who had actively allowed this ghost to stay in the house. The euphemistic way to put it was 'active involvement,' but the direct way was 'keeping a ghost.'
Keeping a ghost had caused Sleep Paralysis...
But clearly, keeping a ghost would deplete a person's Yang Qi and vital energy. Looking at Yu now, it was evident that her condition wasn't good.
As I reached for food, I glanced up again and noticed the boy gazing affectionately at Yu.
Perhaps he noticed my gaze, as he smiled slightly in my direction.
Damn it, I suddenly realized that this was nothing short of a twisted fate. These two couldn't possibly have some emotional entanglement, could they? Humans and ghosts are worlds apart!
Were this human and ghost attempting to cross that red line?
For some inexplicable reason, I felt a surge of anxiety. Gao Qing shot me a look, then turned to glance down the hallway, staring for quite some time.
When his gaze returned to me, he said, 'Chen Fei, did you see something you shouldn't have?'
Gao Qing's words struck home, leaving me momentarily speechless.
His intense gaze bore into me until I finally spoke up. 'I didn't see anything; I just wanted to check if there was any commotion in that room.'
Gao Qing replied, 'Really? Is commotion something you just look at?'"
Gao Qing's words nearly exposed me, and of course, I wouldn't admit it. Inside, I was conflicted about whether I should reveal the truth.
Gao Qing scrutinized me but chose not to press further.
Setting down her bowl and chopsticks, she said, "I’m done eating. Are you two ready?"
Gao Ling also put down her utensils and came over to my side. "Brother Fei, you don't need to be too nervous."
Honestly, I wasn't nervous at first, but now I felt a bit anxious. I knew a secret I shouldn't have known. I should have come clean, yet I chose to conceal it.
I set down my bowl and chopsticks as well.
"Since we're all finished, let's head upstairs," Gao Qing said.
"Okay," Gao Ling replied with a nod. At that moment, I looked up and noticed the boy was already out of sight. After we set down our dishes, Yu also put hers down, but looking at her bowl, it was clear she hadn't eaten much at all.
Perhaps she simply couldn't eat.
We headed upstairs, and this time Yu took the initiative to follow us. Gao Qing immediately said, "You go back down."
It was as if Gao Qing had seen through everything.
Yu froze in place at Gao Qing's command, seemingly terrified of her.
The atmosphere grew awkward in an instant.
Gao Ling said, "If the girl wants to go up and take a look, just let her."
Gao Qing replied, "No, it's not convenient for the person involved to go up."
At that moment, Yu, who had been stopped by Gao Qing, suddenly grabbed my wrist and said, "Take me up."
Her voice was still somewhat cold, but there was a hint of tears in it.
The boy must have had a special relationship with Yu.
It seemed that to untie the knot, one must be involved in tying it. After thinking for a moment, I said to Gao Qing, "How about we take her up?"
Gao Qing looked at me, stunned for a few seconds, then suddenly laughed and said, "Chen Fei, you really are something! Let's do it your way and take her up."
Honestly, Gao Qing's smile didn't make me feel her beauty; instead, it sent a chill down my spine.
Gao Qing was indeed quite strange!
I glanced at Yu, and she looked back at me. I said to her, "Let go; she agreed to let you go up."
A look of sadness appeared on Yu's face.
Gao Qing addressed Uncle Cao and his wife below, saying that they shouldn't come up to avoid having too many people around.
Uncle Cao replied, "Then we'll leave it to you."
"Gao Ling" said with a smile, "Don't worry, there won't be any problems."
At that moment, the atmosphere here had become quite strange. I should have been on the same side as "Gao Qing" and "Gao Ling," but instead, I felt as if I were standing on the opposite side.
I was internally conflicted about whether to bring things to light directly; otherwise, I feared we would suffer losses later.
We climbed the wooden stairs.
The sound of clapping echoed, and it was at that moment that Yu suddenly walked up to me, leaning close to my ear and whispering, "Help us!"
I looked at Yu and finally shook my head. Yu's expression immediately fell, but she still stuck closely to me.
"Gao Ling" then said to me, "Brother Fei, let Yu stay behind me; it's safer that way."
Before I could respond, Yu interjected with a firm, "No."
In an instant, "Gao Ling" lost his composure. However, he chuckled a few times to cover it up. I admired this aspect of "Gao Ling"; he had thick skin.
"Gao Qing," on the other hand, didn't care much for that. He suddenly stepped beside me and grabbed my wrist tightly, then coldly said, "You open the door."
